Wheezing Up A Hill To Check Out Unbelievable Stone Walls

Welcome To My Ride
This was supposed to be my first mountain ride… up Meriden Mountain to Castle Craig - 4.1 miles and 982 feet. Not a big mountain but steep in places. I woke up to a serious smoke situation caused by out-of-control forest fires in Canada. The Canadian smoke was driving formal government health cautions throughout the US Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Due to the smoke I opted for a short 20 mile ride that took in some hills in Chester, Connecticut. My route passed through an area of beautiful stone walls and then turned into the local Cockaponset State Forest where there are some fine gravel / dirt fire roads. Based on my reaction to the smoke following my short hill climb, I opted to shorten the 20 miles I had planned as I rolled out.
Part 1 takes us up the hills so we can take a close look at the stunning stone walls and other niceties of the Connecticut countryside. Short and sweet we took a bike ride that passed through a beautiful area shrouded in a thick layer of smoke - enjoy!
