  • Welcome To A Hometown Memory Ride (Part 2)
This second part of our 20 mile memory ride takes in some special settings from my past. The purpose of this memory ride is to refresh my memories from back when, as a kid, I roamed the roads of my home town of Wallingford. I got a kid’s eye view of life from the seat of my bike. As 60 years have flowed over the dam, so riding the same roads of my youth showed me how notable the changes to this area have been.
If it seems like I am doing this ride for me… no. I am one of a three administrators for a high school alumni Facebook Group and I do these rides with my fellow former classmates in mind. We all have one thing in common… Wallingford. Many have left the area with some having been away for decades. These videos are dedicated to them; they can view their old hometown through my videos.
And for those who subscribe to my TH-cam channel and have no idea where Wallingford, Connecticut is… just sit back and enjoy. While we pride ourselves on doing long distance bike touring or bike packing trips, there are other kinds of bike rides as well. The concept of the memory ride allows a cyclist to reach back and likely get reacquainted with what sparked your adult bike riding sport/hobby… the childlike freedom of riding a bike. When you get back to your hometown for a visit, my strong suggestion is to consider having your adult self take your bike and go explore the roads you once rode as a youngster.

I’m not sure either but glad you stumbled across the video. While this was videoed and developed for the High School alumni from my home town, the concept of going to your hometown and taking a bike ride to those spots you frequented as a kid is something family and old friends would likely really enjoy. The changes are stunning… and a bit sad in this case.
