My Cousin once had a honda civic from 98 and it was i think 2010 and he took me to get ice cream in his straight piped honda and i’m there chilling and then all of a sudden i heard backfire and i’m like WTF and i’m also like 😌😉😏 cause i thought it was cool and it still is i want a honda as my first car and yeah 😎
I’ve straight piped my R18 too. The sound was amazing. My setup was catback, res delete and replaced with 2inch pipe (factory pipes are 1.7/8) and instead of muffler I placed a 3 inch pipe for the last 3 feet. Sounded amazing but I’ve got many complains about how loud it was, so I replaced the 3inch with a universal muffler with is still loud, but more tolerable. However I’m going to put the 3inch back on it again since I loved the way it sounded. Also those are crackles you hear. Backfire really happens when you don’t have a cat and if you remove it you can have real flames shooting out the back. Unfortunately where I live removing the cat is illegal, but still I can do catback straight pipe which I’m going to do very soon. Btw if you plan to keep it straight pipe make sure to add extra piping to where your exhaust is cut, otherwise you’ll have all the deadly fumes coming inside and that can be dangerous. Specially if you drive with your windows up, you might feel dizzy and can crash. Stay safe and keep making more videos.😉 👍
A fuel-injected engine may backfire if an intake leak is present (causing the engine to run lean), or a fuel injection component such as an air-flow sensor is defective. ... Poor or unregulated engine timing is often a cause of intake backfires, but can also be responsible for exhaust backfires. just an fyi once more
Literally about to buy a 2008 civic EX, Black, two door 136k miles clean title everything is great. First thing I am doing after a tune up, Exhaust. THANK YOUUUU!!!
my exhaust fell off the same way on my 8th gen coupe, it sounds the same with less backfire, but very loud bangs when I rev it. Cold starts sound so damn good now.
My car is A 2008 Honda Civic LX, and I removed all the exhaust garbage. It has only now a strait pipe direct from the engine to the back. The sound is 100% loud, and since that in my part of the country they abolished exhaust testing. There is no way for me to lose having a Straight pipe fully open exhaust. The sound is like a V8 Turbo without exhaust restriction's, and the cop's don't give a crap as long I don't push it hard when I take off at stop sign's or traffic light's.
Hey bud, i know this is an older video, I didn't look to see if anyone commented on the matter, but its called "afterfire." Backfire is through the intake (when ignition isn't correctly set and a flame comes out of carburetor), and afterfire is "unburned" fuel combusting in the exhaust. Backfiring isn't very common in a fuel injected vehicle, something would be very wrong if that was the case.
for anyone that is here watching this video, i have a honda civic 06, i got a muffler delete and sounds almost as loud as straight pipe, as well as it backfires with just a muffler delete i recommend doing a muffler delete instead of straight pipe so you will be able to pass the smog check and sounds just as loud :)
Nice review I think you should delete all the cats and put headers and see how that sounds. Another idea is cut a hole in your hood and get headers that shoot the exhaust straight out your hood you can watch backfires as you drive.
Unfortunately it's illegal where I live to alter the muffler or exhaust. Plus would be who would honestly find out, no one cares where I live. I know students at my school who've basically done it. Also my neighbor(s) are my friends from school, they would probably think I'm an idiot.
Pros: It's loud, makes it more fun to drive. You really get a feel for rev matching when your engine drowns out everything else. Cons: Straight pipes sound like SHIT compared to any performance exhaust, raspy and gross. Gives that classic "Fart can" sound. Bite the bullet and buy a Skunk2 Megapower RR catback - It's the same volume as straight pipes, but has a deep throaty rumble with no rasp. (Well, as deep as you can get with a 4 banger) Hands down the best exhaust I've heard yet on a Civic. Also straight piped cars don't have catalytic converters, this car just has a muffler delete. It probably has a small resonator too, but I would have to look underneath it to be sure.
2012 - 2015 Hyundai accents use the same engine as the Veloster with same HP output, yet it weighs 200 IBS less then Veloster and with aem filter ($70), muffler + resonator delete ($100-$150) will do 0-60 in 6 second range (6.8s - 7.0s) those are the consistent times I got with that intake and exhaust setup on my 2012 accent 6speed manual transmission without any tune. If you search "2013 Hyundai Veloster straight pipe" and find the one of the white Veloster (no turbo) parked in a traffic intersection, my car sounds identical to that. Also if I go easy on the throttle I average 48 US MPG.
@@jessemills5951 you are misinformed, running the ECU for the modifications you make is optimal, but your still get consistent and sizable gains from modifications without a tune. Your stock ecu has sensors and must maintain homogeneous air/fuel ratio, if more exhaust is able to escape the cylinder and more/cooler air is coming in through the intake valves the computer must compensate by injecting more fuel and making more power. Mighty Car Mods proved this many times but the best example is when they put NOS in their Honda S2000, and put it on the dyno with the factory ecu and no tuning and it gave over 50% more horsepower and that was all the stock ecu figuring everything out. They later did custom Haltech ecu and got more but it proves my point well enough.
I’ve got an 8th gen civic lx sedan with a spec-D cat back exhaust, I took off the muffler, and I’m thinking of putting a race pipe on it, I do have another car, 2018 mustang 5.0 a long tube header to straight pipe all the way back, cold starts in the morning sets off car alarms
If you're only choices are a cheap eBay exhaust or a straight pipe. Go with a straight pipe. Sadly it's hard to get a cheap exhaust that actually sounds good.
I spent $300 bucks on mine and still sounds better than a yonaka or any other similarly priced exhaust.buy a dyi kit and a vibrant muffler and not waste money on a brand name
technically your not hearing a backfire man it's called back pressure I'm not sure how to describe it but look it up a legitimate backfire is essentially an explosion and it sounds like a handgun going off
As long as you don't get a huge ass pipe on a N.A engine. That won't do you any good.. Unless you have a turbo.. But yea, go straight pipe your Honda, but please keep it 2.5" max.!
That’s not true man straight pipe makes your car preform better by reducing exhaust back pressure and allows more flow of exhaust gases and in turn more horsepower and torque.
So my next buy will be a eg hatch but I do have a straight piped Hyundai Veloster and it sounds amazing! Just and FYI but I love Honda’s and wouldn’t buy a Korean made car 😂😂
I’m about to be installing a 320 performance straight pipe for the cat because mine is bad and then I’ll be getting an exhaust for it. I drive an 08 Civic ex coupe manual.
I got a 2012 SI with just a muffler delete, it sounds decent but I wish it backfired. My friends got a 8th gen sedan base and his muffler rusted off, it backfires like crazy. Kind of makes me jealous lol, but I don't want to get a tune cause it just eats gas. Just find it weird that the R18 loves to backfire

Backfire is caused by fuel that isn’t burned, so a rich fuel mixture not lean....
the R18 motor in this car has a unique VTEC system to save fuel, but allows it to run very lean but save gas due to valve timing
