This TH-cam hair forum is such a blessing to black women. More than 400 years ago were separated by the slave trade, but these hair journeys are bringing us back together. Sounds trite, but it's true. Only now can our sisters all over the world share and bless each other. The universe has made a way for us to be reunited and it will only continue to grow. Our Black Girl Magic, our collective powers are being channeled toward our greatness. Such a joy to see all of my beautiful sisters striving to be their best, striving to find their true beauty and striving to bring the rest of us up.
Tiandrea Spence Hair grows 6 inches a year on average, so even with trims you can retain over 25 inches of hair with good hair care. She just takes good care of her hair, and retains length.
Once I saw “Dominican” I was like “nooo not the Dominicans”. No offense to anyone who is Dominican and read this. But I just have heard of so many people going to Dominican salons and getting their hair *fried*.
Hi My Ghanaian Sister, You are my hair role model lol. I can tell that although you have 4c hair you must have really thick & resilient strands because when I was relaxed I NEVER went past collar bone length. I have super fragile hair and even now that I'm natural, I still haven't passed collar bone length lol. I'm still learning about my hair. Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. I always get excited to see your videos, so please keep them coming! Stay Blessed Beautiful.
My daughter has very fine strands, and I have to treat her hair like silk. Her hair can not handle a lot of combing. So to stay on top of knots, I finger detangle 90% of the time. When I comb it it's only on wash day, full of conditioner, and only after I've finger detangled. I start from the ends and work my way up. Also, obviously, try to keep it stretched to reduced knots and tangles.
*ATTENTION: BOX BRAIDS/BRAIDED EXTENSIONS/ TWIST EXTENSIONS ARE NOT A PROTECTIVE STYLE!* They are only protective IF they're not done too tight, they aren't too heavy, the hair is moisturized every other day, and washed every 1-2 weeks. Otherwise your hair will break offf/thin out. I learned the hard way and lost about 5-7 inches of my hair from 3 years of wearing box braid extensions and not taking care of my hair underneath. I stopped wearing extensions for about 6 months and my hair is beginning to regain it's volume and grow, slowly, but it's getting there.
Egyptiana that's why I do my own braids. I don't braid too tightly or make heavy braids. So far my hair is growing fine and retaining all of its length I think it depends on the individual person
I am Ghanaian too and my natural hair is on it easy to 6 years!!! I am so happy however I also had a huge setback. This video was so inspirational. I can’t wait for this video to 1 million views
WOW! Your hair grows really fast. It's so amazing how many different textures of black hair their are and it so interesting to note that your texture grows as fast as most caucasian hair types. Your hair is wonderful and on a side note I can't get over how flawless your skin is. Beautiful lady!
Girlll I've notice that once a black woman are girl is returning to natural they getting younger. Your face became more beautiful. And I see this on you and even on me!! And did you discover what your hair growth is in a month? Because they say the average hair growth is 0.5 inch per month.. Buth your hair is way faster than that. It looks like 1.5 inch per month. I love this video. You became more beautiful thats a fact! (Don't mine my English because I speak dutch)
I wear braids and twists a lot. In between styles, I usually wear a high puff. When my hair is in a puff, my co worker always tells me how youthful I look.
Outstanding! The remarkable health of your hair across the years of your hair journey is markedly obvious! Your length retention is beyond commendable, in addition to the voluminosity of your hair! This 2018 setback is already a comeback! As a side note you have become more striking and youthful with age, the natural hair perhaps!?! Thank you for sharing your journey!
OMG OMG OMG!!! 😍. Your hair journey is so inspiring! I was literally sitting here contemplating cutting my hair due to various setbacks. I had the exact same setbacks that you had (minus the gel detangling one). In spite of the setbacks, you persevered and your hair is flourishing. This video was right on time. Your hair is goals! Thank you so much for representing the kinky hair girls. The stigma that we can't have long healthy hair still persist and it's people like you who help tear that stigma down.
Woow,l'm from ghana too but l lived in Europe,l have been natural for 3years now,l am so delighted to watch your video. Thanks girl.go gal go gal you inspire me alot .😘😘😘😘
First and foremost, YOU ARE GORGEOUS! Your natural hair is incredible and most fitting to you. ♥️ Second, I adore the accountability of this video!!!! No excuses for your mistakes along the way. No you trying to appear free from mistakes. No blaming products or processes (even if they were bad for you)... Just you letting us know what happened, regardless of how many many times it happened, and the progress once you identified the issue. I love it; a true journey that we have all experienced to some degree as we try to get this lifestyle right. You rock! Thank you so much for sharing the wealth of information. 🎁
Awww wow that is so sweet how your husband taped your big chop and will always have memories of your natural hair journey. Girl it's amazing how you have all of hair pics documented. You have come a long way
Ladies, always take before and after pictures or record any process a stylist performs. You can actually take salons/stylists to court and sue for damages if they mess up your hair.
You hair has gone through a lot chemically and bounced back, give it time, you will not be disappointed. Continue to keep it healthy...Thumbs up for this video
I didn't know you were Ghanaian!! Heeeeey sis, lol. Your hair is amazing though! It's always motivating to see where you started from and your progress now! Love it!
Thanks for sharing your journey!!! As a new loose natural, who recently big Loc chopped, this is helpful in understanding do’s and don’ts and what to look for. You are gorgeous and love your hair 😍😍
Yeah how you have 457 setbacks in 6 years I’ve only had 3 major setbacks in 5 and my hair is a fourth of your length 🤔 bruh your hair grows so abnormally fast!😭😩🙄
Loved watching it journey. I've decided to jump on the natural train too. Though I'm getting my last relaxed this week then will monitor my journey. Thanks for this great inspiration. I think I have type 4c hair too.
You are a true inspiration. Your natural beauty comes out way more with your natural hair. You are absolutely gorgeous and the perfect hair model to inspire us as melinated women to be comfortable with our real beauty.
inspirational, , it really is a journey full of ups and downs. im 2.5 years natural and ive equally had good and bad phases. it's really a process to learn what your hair wants. you are so beautiful btw ❤
Love this! I have been natural 5 yrs. Last yr my (4c) hair was 4 inches from tail bone length. Suddenly I had major setbacks with fairy knots, ended up constantly trimming the ends every month, then every two weeks then every week. I don't know what the hell was happening, even though my hair was stretched, moisturized and sealed. I have lost a lot of length. My hair is currently under my bra length. This yr I decided that I will ignore the fairy knots and only snip every 3 months. Will see how it goes.
It’s really nice to see fellow Ghanaian sisters making it on TH-cam, it give me hope. Someday my channel will be booming like yours keep up the good work sis you are an inspiration to small channels.
You are very brave! You cut out your own relaxed hair! I think I would have been in tears. Thank you for sharing your story. You hair is very beautiful and so are you. 😊
Thanks for sharing. Great inspiration. Loved the transitions. Setbacks-Contrasts help us know what we want; what works or doesn't work for us. It's all good! And, you hair looks great. Peace, and thanks again for sharing!
You've made me want to transition to natural once again. I also had the same problem with relaxed hair shedding off especially on the edges. The last time I had natural hair I Dint know how to take good care of it and even style it but I now I know. Though your hair grows really fast am inspired
natural hair makes you look so much younger and beautiful ! you give me hope with your setbacks, ive been stuck at the armpit length all throughout last year because i cut off way too much from trims and breakage. Now im at the end of my shoulder blade but i feel like my growth is stagnant. This video gave me courage to bounce back. If you don't mind me asking how old are you ? you look super young.
I'm nearly 10 yrs natural and my hair looks like yours did in the 7 minute mark of the video... That damn silk press killed my thick 4c. :( Back to yet another big chop... Watching videos on what to use on it to get it back to a healthy state after the cut.
Gurl....I mean... wow!!! I see you’ve had set backs but still... I mean my set backs have meant losing 1/4 of my hair. Not even sure what I’m doing wrong. Just know that I’m having serious scalp issues and serious knots. It’s nice seeing someone with my hair type achieving not only the length but also the level of health that you have
What a detailed video ! I love it ! I’ve recently gone natural (5 months) and my hair has grown quite a bit. Most of all though, I’m soooo happy with the look and how strong it is. I’m going to start rice water rinses to help growth and do other things to help reduce shedding but cutting my hair was the best decision I made. I’m partly Ghanaian too btw but I was born and raised in the UK. Love to see my people flourishing 🇧🇴 although most Ghanaians I know have good hair either way
Thank you soooo much for sharing!!! Loved this video! My hair has been DIY locked and no special treatment for the past 4 years but I'm so craving my natural loose hair. This video has given me ALLLLLL the incentive to start fresh.
Some women like to make it seem like their hair grew long overnight. They do this on purpose because a lot of people don't know it takes about 6 to 7 years to grow to tail bone length. So thank you for your honesty.
saw your hair journey and i must say you are one of the fortunate ones, your hair grows aMaZingly fast. i like your channel and will try your tips. like how you showed difference in 4b and 4c hair, i think i have a mixture of all the 4s depending on where on my head you look. hope to try and get some length accomplished...it won't get any denser as i'm naturally thin density and i am an older woman. keep the videos coming...thank you
My hair gets to collar bone length and then breaks, relaxed or natural. I’m starting again, got a Deva cut 4/12/17. Trying to moisturize it and see what happens, last relaxer 11/16/2012.
Ossie R remember that when you wear your hair out when it’s shoulder length it tends to rub against the shoulder causing breakage and split ends keep your hair up for awhile(still care for it) during your shoulder length period.
I can't believe how FAST your hair grew what did you do.. Protective styles?.. And what regimes did you do?? Deep conditioning?? Or what because MY GOD!!! it REALLY GREW FAST!!!! 😲😲😲😲 wowww I'm impressed & inspired... I don't know how long mine really is (wearing braids now) but it think its above chest, upper mid back and I'm tryna get it to MID BACK BRA STRAP length
Your hair grows Really fast regardless...1 yr' 11mos' natural pics😱..I'm sure it's part genetics but What were your favorite hair products during That time!? 🤔
Wow. Is all i can say.
My hair will reach that lenght in jesus name
Eposi Tabor Amen🙏🏾
Haha .... A big AMEN
Amen!
Amen oo
Amen to that...wish myself the same...Amen😁
Your husband was right... You def look sexier with natural hair!!! Setbacks and all your hair is gorge on you and the progress is so inspiring.

I think it’s safe to say that your hair grows fast af lol
InfamouslyMe yes it do
😂 facts
InfamouslyMe yes definitely faster than average
truth
Tiandrea Spence Hair grows 6 inches a year on average, so even with trims you can retain over 25 inches of hair with good hair care. She just takes good care of her hair, and retains length.
You look very different with your natural hair. You’re beautiful either way but your natural hair really brings it out more
Thanks sis
That's what it's meant to do. That's why, I believe, no one has the exact same head of hair.
You look prettier with natural hair.
Hehe thank you.
I think we black girls look prettier with our natural hair. No need to perm. My observation tho 😁😁
rdokoye You’re right:)
I always notice how better black women look with natural hair!
We all do!!
I've been natural 4 years now and my hair only just reached past shoulder length...Patience is key.
Yep totally
Do you get alot of breakage?
Same, I had a setback from going to type Dominicans. STAY AWAY from them !!!
Zhané Angel nah not that kind of patience
Your hair grows really fast, it's amazing
I love how despite the many setbacks you faced, you still got back up and kept going. Look at you now, inspiring us all! :)
Despite the setbacks, your hair looks amazing. Thanks for sharing 💕
Once I saw “Dominican” I was like “nooo not the Dominicans”. No offense to anyone who is Dominican and read this. But I just have heard of so many people going to Dominican salons and getting their hair *fried*.
U A very true, they set me back. In the midst of recovering from the heat damage I’m pissed!
I had the same reaction!
I went there once and I came out looking worse than how I came in
I'm Dominican......I can't to say all Dominican are like that....buuuut my experience , I'm agree with you....and I dont offense "to my dominicans"
i’m dominican myself and ur not wrong, it just depends on who does ur hair tbh
Hi My Ghanaian Sister, You are my hair role model lol. Thank you so much sis. ❤️❤️
Miss Bubble' thanks for the tips 👍🏾 will consider these in my regimen
I recommend hair grease/ blue magic. There are tuts on yt. It is a good product for fine stranded 4c hair, the most difficult hair type to grow
I was not too sure about the whole grease trend but I guess I could try and see. Thanks for sharing.
My daughter has very fine strands, and I have to treat her hair like silk. Her hair can not handle a lot of combing. So to stay on top of knots, I finger detangle 90% of the time. I stopped wearing extensions for about 6 months and my hair is beginning to regain it's volume and grow, slowly, but it's getting there.
Sew-ins either. My scalp and strands are so thin its painful and I can feel my hair being pulled out smh
Egyptiana that's why I do my own braids. I don't braid too tightly or make heavy braids. So far my hair is growing fine and retaining all of its length I think it depends on the individual person
Braids have really helped my hair, just need a good salon
This!! I also feel like kanekalon just has waaay too many chemicals in general and is bad for our hair
True, my hair started growing like weed ever since I started braiding my own hair..
God knew what he was doing when he created us with beautiful kinky coily hair 😻 our hair is golden ❤️😍.
I'm vibing with that background music
Noooooo from the Migos-Stir Fry
It's a Migos song. "Stir fry"
Ok 😂. Towards the end it really started bumpin lol
Tacara Jones ☠️☠️💀
Thank you for sharing your journey! Your husband seemed really supportive too. That’s awesome

WOW! Your hair grows really fast. It's so amazing how many different textures of black hair their are and it so interesting to note that your texture grows as fast as most caucasian hair types. Your hair is wonderful and on a side note I can't get over how flawless your skin is. Beautiful lady!
Chigozirim ᴖᴥᴖ no lol, that’s absolutely wrong ☺️
uh what?
You must be white lol
I dye my hair so I can tell from the new growth it doesn't grow as fast as hers. She must have Wakandan genetics.
@Chigozirim ᴖᴥᴖ "as fast as" not more than.. That's what the original commenter said
I just got to say it I love your accent! And your hair is just wow! 😍
Girlll I've notice that once a black woman are girl is returning to natural they getting younger. Your face became more beautiful. And I see this on you and even on me!! Your English is very good !! And I also agree with what you are saying
I wear braids and twists a lot. In between styles, I usually wear a high puff. When my hair is in a puff, my co worker always tells me how youthful I look.

This is the most honest and accurate picture+time lapse on TH-cam I have seen in a while. Keep growing those lovely coils!
Love how you changed the music to a more up beat after big chop. Beautiful hair you have and God bless you to know him in Jesus Christ name.
Becoming natural has been a major transformation in your hair journey! Despite the setbacks, you still have a lot of hair. God bless!
Your hair grows really fast
You've come a long way! I can't wait until my hair reaches your length (pre OR post set-back!)
OMG OMG OMG!!! 😍. Your hair journey is so inspiring! I was literally sitting here contemplating cutting my hair due to various setbacks. Girl the way l was shook to see "husband" in 2011! 😂😂 I thought u was REALLY young!
Lol yeah I got married when I was super duper young.
Craving Curly Kinks how old are you
Yeah how old are u really( not trying to be rude)
I believe she said she was 30 in a video she made about her upbringing. I can't find it now so she may have taken it down.
Me too... loving it!

Hi, I was following you when I was relaxed.
Elizabeth Onyilo wow thank you. How long have you been natural?
How did you make out?

Relaxer is the killer of royalty. You just transformed into a goddess
natural hair makes you look so much younger and beautiful ! you give me hope with your setbacks, ive been stuck at the armpit length all throughout last year because i cut off way too much from trims and breakage. Now im at the end of my shoulder blade but i feel like my growth is stagnant. This video gave me courage to bounce back. If you don't mind me asking how old are you ? you look super young.
Beautiful! Set backs are learning experiences and you, lil Sis, have recovered well from your set backs👏🏾
Your setback is my hair goals 😀
Love the ending after all those set backs! Your hair seems to grow really fast!
Your hair is gorgeous! Currently I am 1 year and 8 months in to my natural journey and have reached BSL, can't wait for luscious hair like yours!
THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SHARING YOUR HAIR JOURNEY WITH US ! I have been on the natural hair journey 4 months now.
Thanks for sharing . Looks like your hair is growing back nicely.
It’s nice seeing someone with my hair type achieving not only the length but also the level of health that you have
You made a wise choice. Yr hair grew quickly with good care applied . And patients
You are so inspirational! Thanks for making all these videos

wow! u have come a long way, so inspiring
Yep so true. Glad you liked it.
saw your hair journey and i must say you are one of the fortunate ones, your hair grows aMaZingly fast. i like your channel and will try your tips. like how you showed difference in 4b and 4c hair, i think i have a mixture of all the 4s depending on where on my head you look. hope to try and get some length accomplished...it won't get any denser as i'm naturally thin density and i am an older woman. keep the videos coming...thank you
Wow, at time code 16:53 you look like Keisha Knight Pulliam of the Cosby Show....Great video and Thanks for sharing!
My hair gets to collar bone length and then breaks, relaxed or natural. I’m starting again, got a Deva cut 4/12/17. Trying to moisturize it and see what happens, last relaxer 11/16/2012.
Keep your ends very moisturized that should help with the hair breakage and also strengthening treatments.
Thank you. I’m working on my ends to keep them moisturized.
