    1. combing through your hair, especially when its dry.
    2. not using a hair regimen suited for YOU
    3. be patient, consistent and have realistic expectations
    4. appropriate protective styling
    5. over-manipulating your hair
    6. styling hair whilst dry; not hydrating hair
    7. not trimming hair regularly

    I think the problem with some people and waiting for growth is the fact that some TH-camrs aid in giving false expectations because even though everybody's hair grows differently, they give the impression that if you take care of your hair EXACTLY like them then your hair will grow just as long and just as fast. TBH its honestly disappointing so I'm glad you addressed this 🙌🏽

    Our hair is constantly growing. It never really stops growing, in fact. However, it can remain at a certain length for a long time without proper attention and care. This can be due to breakage, cutting off more inches than one grows on average each month, not getting enough nutrients through food etc.

    • @nutmegcurlsandcoils2736
      @nutmegcurlsandcoils2736 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @Welcome's House that's true. But it's a cycle it is continuous, that's why you should try to retain much length when it's growing stage.

    • @artemis2016
      @artemis2016 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Especially the food. Not too many talk about taking care of the hair from the inside ( body) out ( topical). It's usually some topical remedy to growing hair rather than looking at their daily eating habits. People will curse someone out for suggesting that maybe their poor diet choices is why they hair isn't growing.
      Many times, a person can be deficient in a certain nutrient ( usually Iron, Omega-3 and vitamin E), and many other nutrients. The light bulb come on for some, while others just end up blaming it on genetics.b

    • @912deborah

      Yes we should focus on BIG hit bc length is associated with European/ non Afro hair

    • @serious7179
      @serious7179 5 ปีที่แล้ว +79

      @@912deborah I have to disagree... Length is a sign of health in black hair as well as European hair. Length used to be considered a European thing, but it's really not. Black women that I know want long, beautiful kinky hair, not long straight hair. Of course, genetics come into play, but I'd venture to say that most women of all ethnicities have the genetic ability to grow what we consider long hair (i.e. past shoulder length in its natural state), but African hair, in particular, is a bit weaker and the person would have to be extra careful in combating breakage at the ends to achieve this.

It’s noting to do with growing your hair. She even stated in a previous post that she had lots of damage and split ends, what you think caused that? My guess is because she wasn’t properly detangling her hair and trimming the ends.

    There are a few things I have noticed my hair likes: (1)PH Balance (4.5- 5.5, 6 max) really matters for my hair Health and length retention. It reduces a lot of shedding and split ends. My hair loves aloe Vera based shampoos and products for this reason. (2) 12-24 hour coconut oil Pre-poo really seems to keep my hair strong and shiny and eases detangling. (3) It also loves protein infused products (with mostly moisture) on a regular basis for protein/moisture balance . (4) Detangle while damp. My hair hates soaking wet detangling, but damp is best. (5) Trim schedule. Mine is every 8 weeks, 12 max. If I wait many months like Temi, for example. My hair ends develop tiny holes that lead to split ends, knots, and breakage. I feel like me doing these things allows my hair to holds moisture well and usually doesn't need more products past wash day (weekly)

    One time I went to get two cornrows and the lady saw my hair and she said it was too thick for her to do two on. She said she can do four. Listen she started combing my hair straight dry like I had washed it but the water was dried out dried out. It was the most painful hair experience I’ve ever had and she didn’t even think to put cream until midway and it wasn’t a lot. Although she didn’t offer to stop I should’ve just left cause who knew how much hair I lost. When she started braiding my hair it felt really tight and when I got home bubbles was around my edges. Never again ! My head was hurting for a good two weeks practically.. I’m recovering from two years ago still learning what works best for my natural and keeping it moisturized thanks !

    Her hair is beautiful love it. Anyway to be honest you can listen to a 1000 ways how to grow long hair, every individual is different. My hair is thick, nice length, doesn’t take long to grow and all I do is oil and leave it alone sometimes braided, I don’t wash or condition everyday I probably shampoo once or twice a month.. my hair grows fine .. especially when I slap my wig on and call it a day I don’t bother my hair much. I seen people try rice water it dried and broke out their hair, I seen people do all kinds of things, genetics does play a very big part and whatever works for you.

      ( of course we have Indian ancestors_ like All blk ppl!)
      But some of them can sit on their damn hair! And it grows like weeds! I struggle trying to get to BSL! to no avail. Even some of the babies have hair down their back, and have passed me already! And they all have such thick beautiful hair!
      . My brother stopped cutting his about 3 yrs ago and it's almost to his damn waist!! Thick gorgeous, wavy, jet black hair! It makes me want to punch him! And about 100 other ppl in my huge long _ass / haired family!! Ugggg!!!!

    I had to come to terms with the fact that there are many natural hair favorites that my hair sideyes: shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie, eco styler gel, and heavy butters- it absolutely hates that shea moisture restorative mask and most all shea moisture shampoos. Also Trader Joe's nourish and spa gave me no slip. But mineral oil gives me tons of slip, and my hair likes a little mineral oil mixed with conditioner for detangling. Mineral oil may be considered a no no, but my hair loves it, along with ph balance for detangling purposes. I've learned that if a conditioner's ph is greater than 5.5, detangling is a nightmare.

    • @Lexine0504
      @Lexine0504 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Mineral oil is fine. And so is grease. Most of the new fangled “natural” products are watered down. Which is why they don’t work well. They’re also way too expensive to be such a hit & miss. The local hair store products with softee, blue magic, & luster’s pink brands work so much better. They’re also significantly cheaper.

    Thank you for this video. All my life, I've set my goal to have long and healthy type 1 and 2 hair. I realized that I couldn't have that type of hair because I'm black and the natural hair we have is beautiful because of it's kinkiness. When I had a perm my goal was to have Caucasian people's hair (not trying to be racist or rude but I'm saying what type of hair i wanted). I recently had my big chop from permed hair to natural a month ago. I've spent the 7 months of my transition hating that I couldn't comb through my hair, then I grew to hair my 4c puff starting to grow under my permed hair. I thought it was going to be easy, but experiencing what i experience with my hair isn't and will not ever be realistic. I've been training my hair to loosen up and get soft because the thickness of my hair is outrageous. This video helped me think of a more realistic plan for my hair in 2 years. I've been training it with moisturizer and natural products everyday and I'm consistent with it because you have to be consistent with my type of hair. Now I'm learning to love my texture because of it's beauty and because it's not so simple to do things with my hair. Others have a short-cut to combing and training their hair, but I get the journey and I'm glad I do. I'm only in 7th grade learning this stuff and I'm proud that i'm so young learning so when I'm older I KNOW my hair. (Emphasis on the "know")

    some people's hair grows faster than others someone's 7 years may only take 3 for someone else. I only trimmed mine once a year. Only get mine washed, conditioned and blown out/flat ironed every other month and I don't use heat in between. Since I have been natural going on 4 years it grows even faster. It's different strokes for different folks but I'm not always manipulating my hair I keep it wrapped all the time until I step out. Vitamins help too.

It hurt to comb and brush my hair and it was constantly falling out.

    In my opinion one very important factor was left out and that is your diet. Your hair is what you eat and eating adequate protein is important for hair growth because hair follicles are made of mostly protein. A lack of protein in the diet has been shown to promote hair loss (1). Biotin is essential for the production of a hair protein called keratin, which is why biotin supplements are often marketed for hair growth.
