    Good video, very helpful. I hope your channel keeps growing. Just one advice, don't use that blur effect for the background it's not necessary and looks a little amateur, if you want a blurry background you can open your camera's diaphragm.

    For some reason, when using Chrome on my MBA M1, it uses way less RAM compared to Safari. Google Docs show a bit of lag when using Safari whereas on Chrome, it's all smooth.

      When your looking at it in your activity monitor, are you adding up all the different Chrome tasks like the Chrome Render Helper & the GPU Helper?

      Yes, everything. I'm also looking at the amount of Swap used and it's far lesser when I'm using Chrome. It's really weird since Safari is supposed to be "optimized for MacOS"@@CScott4k

      Yeah safari will take more ram on normal usage. Because normally you have video playing tabs. Safari sucks at that. Like if you play 30-40 minutes 4k video continuously on youtube or any other site safari will take almost 3gb memory for that tab only. People think that safari is magic. But it sucks on real world usage.

    Like it feels really dumb. Apple fan boys think safari is jusy magic and usr no ram. That's really not the case. Safari use different process for each tab you open. So if you look closely on your activity monitor there is process for each website you opened on safari. And if you add all those rams up you will wil it uses almost same ram as chrome/other browsers. And also safari can use much more than chrome if you play videos. Try this. Play some videos on different tabs. After playing the videos 10-20 minutes check the ram usage of the tab it would be GBs which is a lot more than most other browsers.
    Besides chromium browsers are much more snappier if you are switching between many tabs constantly.
    Don't be a fan boy. Benchmarks rather than believing something you saw on Internet.

    • @CScott4k
      @CScott4k  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks for sharing. And also peaking my interest. I ran the test you described above with the same 4k videos. ( 3 tabs/3 videos each) After 20 mins, 1.4 GB for Safari & 1.2 for Chrome. (With all the different tasks for each added up in Activity Monitor). Although not so big of a difference, I’m not sure this would constitute as a ‘real world usage’ as you described in your other comment. I believe this the first time I’ve ever had multiple streams playing at once. For anyone interested, this was also done a M3 MBP. Again, thanks bringing this up. If I ever make a similar video, I’ll be sure to include it!

    • @zhh174
      @zhh174 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@CScott4k That's what my point was. The RAM usage difference between Safari and Chrome most of the time is negligible when it's not it's not negligible it's Safari that takes much more RAM. You mentioned real-world usage. Yeah, that's what most people's usage looks like. Most people won't play multiple videos at the same time, that's correct but most people will have some video-playing tabs opened that were played for a while and paused but the tab is still there, then also safari will consume this much ram. The RAM usage difference you got is very different from mine. Safari takes a lot more RAM while playing video than arc/edge/chrome. The RAM usage just keeps increasing as go forward in the video. But in most other browsers RAM usage is really constant and doesn't change much unless you change resolution. Once I was doing a recorded video class of my college on my M1 base model. After like two hours of continuous video streaming the RAM usage increased so much that it became noticeably slower and when I checked the activity monitor safari was taking like 7 gigs of RAM. So there was a lot of swap usage. But I never had these issues on other browsers. No matter how much time I stream the RAM usage doesn't increase much.
      Safari has major flaws when it comes to modern web technology. Many websites just don't properly on safari. If you really want to have a smooth experience in browsing safari is not the right choice.
      But yeah when it comes to battery safari does better than most browsers. But the difference is not as significant as most people think.
      I'm not a fan of Chrome. Actually, I don't even use chrome. I'm currently using Arc which suits perfectly for my work as I'm a student and do a lot of stuff regarding web development. The thing that pisses me most is that people think Safari is a magical tool and uses no resources from their computers.
      Edit: On the current Safari version the problem of the ram increasing infinitely doesn't seem to happen. After a point, the RAM usage doesn't change on Safari either. Still, it is using a lot more RAM than it should.

    What if I have a Mac with High Sierra OS that can't be upgraded?

    • @CScott4k
      @CScott4k  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I understand the question correctly, you’re wondering if my opinion between the two browsers would be the same for MacOS High Sierra? I would think it would be very similar as although you can upgrade the operating system, you should still be able to upgrade safari and chrome to newer versions.

    • @arecme23

      @@CScott4k Thanks for replying. I'll try to explain: My iMac (27-inch, Mid 2011) SATA Drive crashed two years ago. The technician installed a new 1TB drive, but he told me that its OS was upgraded up to year 2015, and that's the highest my iMac could go. When I go to the App Store, it indicates that there is no update available. In this case, is there anything I can do to keep it safer while using the Internet with Safari; or should I use Chrome instead? Thank you so much.

Not sure if that benchmark didn't show as much difference since the drawing engine might be slower and even out the results of responsiveness.

      I use a macbook air m2 and I have a similar situation. Safari is literally eating up my RAM. I open similar jobs in Chrome, Safari uses much more RAM. However, both of them do not cause any problems in terms of energy. I've been trying to get used to Safari for about 2 months, but for some reason I can't help but ask myself whether Chrome is better. Do you think Chrome is in a better position for MacOS after M2 compatibility?
