The biggest reason to go Edge over Chrome is because Edge has a resource saving feature called “Sleeping Tabs” that after a few mins of inactivity in a tab, it minimizes its resource usage allowing those to be reallocated for other things.
Ideology wise I like Firefox but it does not work for all the websites I use for work so I end up using Edge or Chrome (both of which I hate for different reasons but I might hate Edge slightly less). And Safari just straight up doesn’t work for the main website I use for my job so that’s not even an option.

Agree that cleaner apps are avoidable because we can do the same thing, searching and deleting unnecessary files manually. But format is not an option for a lot of people who use software like plugins for music and video creation for example, as it would take like a day or two to license all of them again.

@@b00gzzz yeah I've got an M1 Macbook Pro but the main downside is that its so much easier to pirate softwares on Intel macs bc they've been around longer and even easier on a Windows PC since more people have them and make files for that, so I'll probably just build a windows pc and also a linux laptop as well to suit my different needs.
@@b00gzzz .. I had no problem with my plug-ins... just migrated my old mac to the new one (intel to M2). Everything works fine except a minute few which I never used anyway.
I use CleanMyMac almost entirely for its uninstaller feature. While moving an app to the trash may seem the more simple option, you are only removing the .app file. Any other data the app has created will remain if the app didn't come with an uninstaller. Hunting down these various library files can be a pain and while they may not be doing any actual harm, I'd sooner remove an app completely. Not to mention these could add up over a long time if you install/remove many apps.
AppCleaner only saves you some HD space. Those extra files don't slow down your computer, plus those extra files are tiny in today's world where space is so plentiful, several files that weigh a few kb don't take up much room at all. AppCleaner is harmless, BUT you could also do what I do and just not care
I used 99% Safari on Mac and on my iPhone giving an incredible experience sometimes 1% use firefox on mac. I also used New Apple Private Relay yes that is not a VPN but Apple is improving it continuously these days sometimes does not work while opening youtube. Please use Apple native free apps at least try for a month oh so most people like it definitely and never go back.
I’ve been a Mac user for over a decade now, and I own 4 Macs, both Intel and Apple Silicon. I think a lot of Mac users that come over from Windows think they need all these programs, and they’re really counterproductive in many cases on a Mac because they’re either poorly designed, or simply not needed. 1. Chrome is only a backup browser on my Mac for when safari can’t properly render a webpage. Safari is my main browser, and my favorite on my Mac and iPhone. 2. Don’t really use browser extensions because of the performance hit. 3. I disagree with NOT having antivirus on your Mac. I have Malwarebytes Premium which is is pretty resource friendly. 4. I definitely agree with cleaner apps to an extent. I KNEW MacKeeper would be on here. 😂 5. macOS has some great image converting tools built in. 6. Private Relay is all I use as far as VPNs go. You tend to take a hit on battery and browsing speed. macOS is a fairly robust and competent OS all by itself, you don’t need to add a ton to it to make it more capable than it already is.
I didn't know that Brave browser could collect more data than it should, I've always thought it was a good alternative to the most famous browser. I've uninstalled Chrome from my pc, Macbook and Android smartphone since 1 year, never installed on my iPhone

Wow, that’s the first time I know some one just like me using only safari and firefox. In term of safari, if you get use to it, it feels much snappier and easy to work with than chrome (especially the tab group feature, which I used often). While for firefox, I use it for the privacy purpose. For both of those browser you could change the default search engine, I often use duck duck go as my primary search engine due to it’s privacy feature.
what kind of mac u uses .. i have 2014 released laptop and i do web dev with 10+ tabs every time never slowed anything ...its faster as always no issue of system slow down
I would say use the browser that suits you more. The privacy is more or less going to be the same. If you wanna have your stuff fully private and safe, use another device not ever connected to internet.
I've never used Chrome. I already knew it uses a lot of ram but now I also know that the privacy is really bad. I always uses Firefox for normal browsing and Firefox Developer Edition for web development
I've never understood why people love Chrome so much. I hate it!!! Google just did the same thing MS did in the 1990s early 2000s by making "exclusive features" that end up breaking websites for other browsers so they can convince you to hand them all your data by using Chrome. No thanks. I'm like you I use Safari for most things as it is fastest in my experience and I use Firefox as a fallback. Edge if I absolutely have to before Chrome. Even MS sucks up less data than Google.
Tried to love safari but after using it for months aside from some websites that for some reason don't work in safari, the one deal breaker was its lousy swipe to go back function. Firefox and chrome don't have this issue at all, but safari for some reason swipe to go back is so clunky. It takes a minimum of two swipes to go back 90% of the time. Switched to chrome and voila no issues. 20+ tabs open with a couple of other apps on the background and no performance/battery issues whatsoever on my base 13 inch macbook pro. The only feature that i would miss on safari is the touch id login function, but i could live without it. Chrome > Safari
I know this is a year late, but you can fix websites not loading by going into safari’s advanced settings and turning on “enable features for developers”. That fixed a lot of sites CSS not loading for me.
Thanks for the tips. Until now I have always used online converters to convert images from .heic to .jpg. Not exactly reassuring, especially with sensitive data. From now on I will use the internal tool 🙏

I agree Chrome takes more ram and power hungry but apart from that no issues using Chrome. I use Chrome on my windows PC even it recommends using Edge. Edge is also nice but I don't see any issues with Chrome. And people who always talk about the security risks with Chrome I never saw any issue and not only me millions of people still using it. On my iPhone I used Safari only because I am a guy who always prefer products from the same maker. On my Samsung Note 9 I use Chrome only instead of Samsung browser because it is Android and I am more comfortable with Chrome. I think if we keep an eye what we are doing and using dedicated apps for financial transactions like bank apps etc we no need to worry much much using Chrome. On my PC I occasionally login to my bank websites also and never faced any issues. Also I like Google showing up the ads related to my browsing and I am ok with it. No much privacy issue 🤷 lol.
Thank you for this! I just wasn't sure. I have an imac, old pro, an iPad and waiting for my new M1 air to arrive. Bravo! Excellent video with substantive content. This is exactly why I subscribe to this channel. People who want to help less knowledgeable people on this topic should share the link to this video with others.
Really enjoying this channel, quick question, do you consider MS Edge to have the same issues as Chrome? … and yes, I’d enjoy a more detailed security related video.
I like Edge, and used it for about 6 months last year. It's quite stable and performance/compatibility is very similar to Chrome (possibly even better). However, the big question is - how much more trustworthy is Microsoft than Google when it comes to your privacy/personal data? It's debatable, but I'd give the "edge" to Edge ;) Firefox is the gold standard however, open source, no telemetry etc. It's about as good as you can get without going full Linux + Tor browser.
I'm having second thoughts on Edge now as well. The problem is I have my entire database of bookmarks in Chrome. It's not as easy as just importing into a new browser as most don't carry the passwords with them making it hard to abandon entirely.
So if you like Firefox and privacy, I hope you’ve disabled the DNS over HTTPS feature (DOH), which is not as privacy friendly as Mozilla makes it out to be. And especially in a corporate environment does more goed than bad in terms of logging and monitoring.
I definitely want a dedicated video to privacy. I just switched to Mac after 30 years with Windows and it's been two years since I've ditched Firefox for Brave and never looked back. I find it to be outstanding, lighting fast and private. I get no ads at all, not even on TH-cam, NONE, ZILCH, no data collected and more. So I'm very curious to know what you based your "no Brave" recommendation on. I'd love to see truly consistent data. I loved Firefox and it's still my go to browser after Brave, but I still got ads everywhere on it and I'm not sure how private it is. So if you can shed some proper light on your claim against Brave I'm all eyes. Also, I appreciate Safari's speed but doesn't Apple collect data from it like Google even if they don't necessarily commercialise it? I do get ads everywhere on Safari, which for me, after being on Brave for so long, it's like going back a thousand years to ad chaos. Anyway, thanks for your videos, looking forward to more on this subject

I also don’t know why he would say that unless there’s some kind of sponsorship with his preferred browser. I don’t care are this point. Brave is awesome and I feel more protected with it.
I don't know a lot about computers, but as a lifelong user (now on a Mac) I notice that Google stuff doesn't play as friendly on a Mac like it does on PC. MS stuff doesn't have all the features like they do on the PC version. It's like the companies take their little digs against each other in weird ways. I just know if I use Chrome, it slows down to nothing and eventually crashes if I have a lot of tabs open (past experience). I had been using Firefox until they started the 'signin' process, but things got kind of odd there. Ended up on Brave (which I was told was ChromeLite) and have been there ever since. Only lately have they started updating every other day, and having crash issues. I do know that some apps work better on Chrome than they do on Brave (nich apps), which I thought was really weird. I have Brave squelched down, no wallet or crypto stuff, etc. And I have no ads on YT, which is tremendous. Dislike ads. But there are some on FB. Other than that, smooth sailing. I like to use Safari for private mode. Now that I hear Safari is unstable for businesses, I'll try that in Brave. IMHO all the companies gather data and make money off anything until it squeaks. The only thing that bothers me is that - will they be using this in the future like China has been doing against their own people for political/control reasons?
Yeah definitely agree. Every single reviewer says that safari is faster but after personally using both chrome and safari myself. Definitely chrome is more responsive (or faster). I don’t mind the increase battery drain for a smoother experience if i’m going to dock my mac anyways.
Which of these two is better for a university use (take notes, watching videos, using excel and other stuff)?: -MBA with 512 of SSD and 8gb of RAM - MBA with 256 gb of SSD (with the storage issue) and 16 go of RAM Considering that I would like to keep this MacBook for at least 5-6 years
Safari is optimized and more responsive for Mac. It's leagues better, not as power hungry and definitely less resource intensive compared to Chrome. It's also tightly integrated into the OS allowing for iCloud KeyChain and auto fill shenanigans.
I’m afraid calling out Firefox in favor of brave for example raises a harsh truth here. Believe what you hear and watch on the internet to whatever limit and belief system you prefer . Much of what is published here is a lure to sell traffic or products and near on everything is agenda driven and subjective
Hi I was just debating the usage of chrome or edge today as a chromium browser for my M1 MacBook Air (16GB). I used jet stream 2 benchmarking and found out that safari and chrome had the same score (194) whereas Edge had a score of 186. I think that these results are very interesting. Hardened Firefox gives me extreme confidence together with my vigilant online habits.
I use Safari all the time but some video contents have issues running in Safari. I'd call them bugs and not really performance issue. For example when playback speed is set at x1.5 by default on coursera, the videos and audios are out of sync on the safari. We need to replay the video to make it sync back again.
It is the same as all the others "cleaning" apps, and the fact that it's also paid is terrible. Plus, all the excessive advertising that they do is extremely fishy. Just don't use any cleaner apps, macOS already does everything it needs to run smoothly.
Clean My Mac sponsors many youtubers, that’s why you rarely find bad reviews about it. But in my personal experience it has done everything on my Mac except help or make it better.
As a person who uses playback speed a lot... Safari sounds robotic when you change playback speed of any video whereas any chromium based browsers sound Natural and more pleasant to hear and understand. Plus a lot of productive extensions are missing..!!

I've never liked nor ever used Fire Fox! What about Yahoo? As for antivirus, I've never thought of using any antivirus software on a Mac. On a Windows PC, it's kind of a must to have an antivirus software. The only cleaner app I've found decent is "Clean My Mac X". Does anyone know if it's authentic? Thanks for the insight though...
It's authentic but you don't need it, and I have heard MANY stories of it slowing down performance by constantly running in the background. If you like it, keep using it, but it's just not necessary.
I am just an usual user on Mac, but Google Chrome really drain off my Mac's battery really quick. If I am not using Chrome, my Mac can last up to 10-12 hours. But when I am on Chrome, it only last about 7-8 hours.
Just curios, but when you say "Works" what exactly do you mean? I use FireFox and Safari, but never had an issue with any of the two. I guess I'm just wondering what am I missing here.
Firefox is not a workaround lol, it performs almost exactly the same as Chrome. Edge also works perfectly and is one of the fastest and most stable browsers currently. Not really sure where you're getting these opinions from. If I ever come across a website on Firefox that doesn't work well, I simply open up Chrome for 1-2 minutes. But I haven't had to do that for MONTHS, even for website development work.
Not bad; however, I keep an antivirus package (DR Antivirus) running and once every 2-3 months it flags and cleans some bits of trash. Also, I check my browser extension every month just to clear off things that got unintentionally installed. (Do YOU read every bit of fine print crap? It happens.)
What would be nice is a step by step guide on formatting the hard drive and reinstalling the operating system thats current, streamlined and easy to follow. After needing to do do that today, it took forever as the guides either don’t exist, are hard to find, don’t get to the point, or written for people with a higher understanding so gloss over bits
Hey, can you tell me what product you're using to hold your MacBook like that? I use mine as a "pseudo-desktop" as well and that setup seems so neat! 😁

@CreatedTech You’re using the Logitech MX3 (7:47). Have you installed Logitech Options? If yes, aren’t you concerned about its access to all keyboard inputs?
I used the MX Mouse for a few weeks for a review. My daily driver mouse is a G Pro X Superlight with no Logitech software installed at all. I just use the USB dongle.
Honestly, as a web developer, I use safari and Firefox, it lets me check that everything works on WebKit and Chromium and if it runs on safari it probably runs everywhere else
To this point I'm convinced that it doesn't matter which browser you use, anyone collects a ton of data about you, no matter what they say. So, if you use the internet, you are being tracked in everything you do. For me, that's just one more thing I don't have to worry about anymore.

Yeah I feel that edge browser is pretty underrated. I prefer their UI and isn’t as bloated imo.

Agree that cleaner apps are avoidable because we can do the same thing, searching and deleting unnecessary files manually. But format is not an option for a lot of people who use software like plugins for music and video creation for example, as it would take like a day or two to license all of them again.

If you wanna have your stuff fully private and safe, use another device not ever connected to internet.
I've never used Chrome. I already knew it uses a lot of ram but now I also know that the privacy is really bad. I always uses Firefox for normal browsing and Firefox Developer Edition for web development
hardened firefox is really good to use while being pretty safe, with searx its perfect for me
I've never understood why people love Chrome so much.
Pointing to Chrome was a bold move
When using Firefox which search engine do you use? And a video on privacy would be great.
i suggest duck duck go for privacy

On my iPhone I used Safari only because I am a guy who always prefer products from the same maker. On my Samsung Note 9 I use Chrome only instead of Samsung browser because it is Android and I am more comfortable with Chrome.
