    One of my favorite things about Safari is that content blocker extensions like adguard aren't actually allowed to see any of the sites you're visiting. Safari just takes the blocking rules from the extension and applies them without passing along any of your browsing data.

    my reason for switching to safari is that it is insanely optimise for MacBook and consumes very less energy infact I would say it uses half the battery when compared to chrome that the only reason why I stop using chrome😎😎

    For any frontend related work I do in my software engineering role, I will use Chrome, but for everything else I use Safari. I am trying to fully embrace the Apple apps as I am already deep into the ecosystem. Safari will run best on my M1 Pro MBP but I do miss a lot of features of Chrome - especially `Labs` and generative AI.

    I use the base variant ipad so I’m really careful in terms of managing storage and trust me Safari collects more personal data than chrome and if you don’t frequently delete your cache,history & cookies manually it’s gonna accumulate a ton of space on your system, I don’t know why people are really concerned about google collecting data from users while apple,Microsoft,meta and amazon does the same and get away with it

    • @cjdadon1
      @cjdadon1 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct me if I’m wrong, but Google usually collects your data and sell it off to corporations. True all companies do it, but it depends on what they do with it, and how much you’re allowing them to take.

    • @muneerfaizal7997
      @muneerfaizal7997 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cjdadon1 not just Google, companies such as apple, meta, amazon are also making money by selling users data and pushing ad’s based on the usage algorithm.
      we accuse Google because google makes its profit from its search engine and software so collecting user data is the primary source of revenue for google and meta but on amazon and apple its different they also have a hardware division so people don’t really mind sharing private data to apple and amazon services. + both apple and amazon have the resources and wealth to get away with it in short all companies are the same.
      Have you ever experienced this: searching a product on amazon for a few minutes and later when you use any social media platform such as fb, Instagram or Snapchat you can see ads and reels relating to your recent amazon search, that’s scary right ?
      Which is a clear indication that these companies not just collect data they also share it to each other.
      So in the future Privacy can’t be guaranteed regardless which platform you are using.

      Are you stupid? A browser saving your History, Cookies and Cache so that you have a faster browsing experience is not the same as them collecting data on the websites that you visit, the things you search, your habits and creating a profile about you to sell so that you get targeted ads and more. You can turn all of that off by the way, but I'm guessing that you don't want to log in into your accounts and change your settings every time that you visit a app or website because you turned off your cookies and cache.

    Safari is a decent browser. It just doesn't have the nice/special features of other browsers.
    - Edge has the most features and good RAM efficiency, but the least privacy.
    - Brave offers the most privacy and works well, but ok features.
    - Opera is a great browser for gamers but gives all your data to the China government.
    - Firefox is good, but not as RAM efficient and doesn't work on some websites.

    The plus side for adding extensions through Apple store, is that those extensions are checked by Apple. Many chrome extensions are shady, and can bring you in danger. Something to think about ;)

    I believe that on Mac OS Safari uses chromium. On iOS it does not, but on your Mac desktop or laptop, I believe it does.
    But I think your motivation is a little off. “People” are not distrustful of chromium. They are distrustful of Google Chrome. It is the Google Chrome browser that sends all the data back to the mothership. Chromium (the open source version) has most of that stuff stripped out.
    But I am a Firefox user. So what do I know?

    • @Craylor
      @Craylor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Safari is definitely not based on Chromium. This is a rumor that was going around for a while. Safari is based on Apple’s own WebKit.
      And I see/hear a lot of users consciously wanting to avoid Chromium. Many believe that Chromium’s code is still reporting certain user data back to Google.

    • @j_yh
      @j_yh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Craylor ok noted. I know that webkit applies to the iOS version, but was not clear on MacOS.
      "Many believe" sounds like a rumor too. It's entirely open source. It's hard to believe that there would still be telemetry or something hiding in there, with a world of devs sniffing around the code. But I get you that there could still be many untrusting people looking for alternatives.

      Apple is vocal about not turning the web completely over to google, so they would never use Chromium as their browser engine, in fact there is a App Store rule that all browsers must use WebKit. And if Safari used Chromium, then chrome's extensions would work on it
