If you want to delete instead of backspace, hold the fn key down and press delete, it then acts exactly like the windows delete key. Two key presses required yes, but it eventually becomes muscle momory.

You can do Option + left or right to jump by words. You can also use Option + delete to delete by words.
Also command + delete will delete by lane.
And command + left or right to jump to either end and command + up or down does the same.
We can push this further with Shift if you want to select and jump by words or lanes or go all the way up or down.

Funny story, I almost exclusively use backspace and delete mapped to my mouse buttons for video editing. Once, I borrowed my friend's macbook for a project, and found it impossible to map delete to my mouse (it was a logitech). Using a modifier to access the delete function is not the same as actually inputing delete, at least to the configuration software which only registered the modifier or backspace by itself. Ended up having to connect a USB keyboard just so I could press the delete key which I found hilarious.

I think he knows these key combinations. On windows it's just one button. Muscle memory makes it difficult to add that one more step to use the delete button like on how it is on windows. For me it's exactly the opposite. inadvertently always make a mistake on my windows gaming PC if I'm too lazy to open the MacBook Pro I have for simple emails in-between sessions of gaming.

    I recommend:
    - pasta, for the clipboard
    - rectangle, for resizing windows with shortcuts
    - ctrl + c to copy the the screenshot and not save it
    - fn + del to use delete backwards
apps are both free and works amazing

So many new Mac users complain about the clipboard and recommend pasta. I’ve almost exclusively used Mac (public school program that gave Mac’s to the computer lab plus student discount and overtime) and hate the clipboard
Also why waste time downloading an app in system settings you can select an option to remember based on app (or last set in app) and every time you open it no problem.
I forget the setting I just remember doing it when I first got my M2 MBA eight months ago.

Honestly not a fan of the ‘snapping to resize windows. But the September update might eliminate the need for rectangle. As for the clipboard I never got used to having one the one time I did have a pc for work instead of Mac.

Hoping these solutions help anyone with similar issues !
    1. Pressing and holding control when doing any of the screenshot commands (e.g. cmd + shift + 3 for fullscreen screenshot or cmd + shift + 4 for selective screenshot) saves the screenshot to clipboard instead of saving to desktop
    2. You can get clipboard manager apps like Maccy
    3. My personal favourite mac hack is Rectangle which is absolutely free and lets you snap windows like you can on Windows ! Including with keyboard shortcuts :)
    4. You can definitely change how the dock works (i.e. moving it to one side of the screen, making it disappear entirely until you move your cursor to the bottom of the screen, changing its animation, getting rid of recents, etc.) in settings

I did research regarding the transition and finally about 2 years ago I made the decision to buy macbook pro m1 with 16 gig RAM. I have also used my laptop for my presentations, and made ample use of the speakers-awesome all rounder. The commands and shortcuts were easy to remember as well because they are so similar to the windows.

Some of this has probably been covered by other commenters, but I figured I'd let you know a few tips that I thought of during the video. I've been a Mac user since 1990, and have worked (as a programmer) on nothing but Mac laptops since 1998, but my 16" MBP M1 is my favorite Mac ever.
    - You can move the cursor by word by pressing Opt-Left Arrow and Opt-Right Arrow. When not in Vim, I use this all the time. Cmd arrows will move you to the beginning and end of the line.
    - I don't really paste paths, so I don't know of an easy way to get a path (but a utility I'll mention soon can probably help with that). One way you can get a path into the clipboard is to drag it onto Terminal, which will put the path on the command line. To _go_ to that path in the finder, you can press Shift-Cmd-G, which brings up the Go to Folder dialog.
    - Saving screen shots is an option. Press Shift-Cmd-5 and the screen shot interface will come up. At the bottom of the screen is an "Options" menu that you can use to select where the screenshot is saved. You can choose Clipboard, bug if you're usually messaging it to someone, you can also choose Messages.
As far as things not natively supported, I highly recommend Keyboard Maestro. I use it for dozens of macros to control the UI, but of interest to you are macros I use to snap windows to the right, left, top right quarter, top left quarter, etc. You could also probably use it to capture the path of the currently open Finder window. While it's probably the most valuable utility I know of on the Mac, here are a few others you might like:
    - SwitchResX: Allows me to increase the resolution to 2992x1870 (better than my previous favorite, the 2012 17" MBP). I need my glasses to be able to use it but if your sight is better than mine, it can go up to 3456x2180.
    - DefaultFolderX: gives many more options in the open and save dialog.
    - iStat Menu: Gives a menu of various status of the laptop, including CPU and memory usage.
    - Alfred: Sort of a supercharged Spotlight with more options.
    - Carbon Copy Cloner: Plug in a drive at least as big as the internal drive and you have an exact clone that you could use to boot another computer should something happen to yours.

For the screenshots, if you also hold the Ctrl key while doing the screenshot key combo, it'll go to your clipboard instead of a file. So for example: Ctrl+Cmd+-Shift+4 will save a rectangular screenshot to your clipboard instead of to your desktop. If I recall, you can also reassign any keyboard shortcut you want, so you can make the combo to do this simpler (or swap it with the default).
There's also a native way to remap _any_ key in MacOS, but the method escapes me at the moment. I remember doing this to change the way the Home and End keys function. If you Google how to do it, you could assign a key you don't use to be the Delete key.
I've used both Mac and Windows over the last fifteen years or so. Many of the "missing" features in MacOS are there, they're just hidden and require some funky configuration when you're setting up a new computer, but once they're set, you're good to go. My current Mac is a *2009* iMac with an SSD upgrade, and it still meets basically all of my daily needs.

Thanks for the helpful comparison. Although I made the switch to Mac many decades ago, as a non-power user I've never missed Windows because I have continued to use some of my irreplaceable Win apps with Parallels Desktop. Even on M1 Macs, Parallels runs seamlessly and very fast, with virtually no practical loss of speed compared to native Mac apps. One other not-so-minor consideration in choosing Mac over Windows as a non-power user: Mac support is great because Apple takes responsibility for both the system and the hardware. Moreover, my experience has repeatedly been that phone support continues long after formal coverage has run out. FWIW, I have a background in electronics and can troubleshoot and fix about 95 percent of the problems I encounter with our Macs - M1 desktops and laptops, iPhones and iPads - but when I can't, it takes only a couple of minutes on an initial call to Apple support to reach a senior tech, and they invariably can fix the problem. Compare that to the typical experience with Windows machines that have problems.

To use windows style delete key, press function + delete on Mac, does the same thing as delete in windows. Mac OS also have an alternative way to view different windows of a same app: deep press on the app icon shows you all the windows that are opened for that app, and in the settings there is an option for 4 finger swap down to view all the windows opened for the current app in focus. As for windows snapping, bettersnap app solves most of my problem with Mac OS windows management, and spotlight is so fast that it is often faster to open apps with it than going to the dock or alt+tab in Windows. Closing apps with a mouse might be faster on windows due to the placement of the close button, but Mac have superior keyboard shortcut to close an app: command+w/q is so much ergonomic, intuitive and easy to press than alt+f4 on windows.

I switched back from Mac to Windows. I like Mac's environment and UI, everything looks awesome and unified but I just need the responsiveness and the snappiness only Windows has. You can see this while typing, switching windows, opening programs, arranging Windows, even on the mouse movement, which is quite inaccurate (I'm talking about the mouse, not the trackpad). Windows management on Windows (funny redundancy) is top, whilst on Mac is really bad and mediocre. You can't even maximize a windows, you have to do it manually by dragging the window around, which is ridiculous. By maximizing I don't mean fullscreen. Then Dock on Mac is cool but it doesn't give any information about what's happening on your system. What's open and what's not, no clue. No system tray. Click on an app on the Dock to bring it to the front, then click again on the same app on the Dock to bring minimize it (without even moving the mouse)... doesn't work! You need to go up and click the minimize icon. Icons arrangement on Finder... OCD person's nightmare. Each folder tends to have a different view, even if you configure a "default" view for finder icons it regularly loses the configuration. Icons overlap and are not properly arrange, you can see gaps between icons, and yes, you can configure it and sort items, but it's really fragile as I found myself having to re-configure it over time. If you want to do something that's out of Apple's bounds, prepare yourself to use MacOs as it were Linux, because you'll need to use the terminal to run recovery, disable SIP and other stuff, install kext files, etc. System image for back up? Not possible on Mac, you'll have to use third party software. Time Machine is not a proper backup tool when it requires you to have the original system the backup was made from. On Windows you just create a system image, you blow your system up and still, can recover it in 10 minutes by wiping the whole drive and applying the system image. Then you'll have the same system as if nothing had happened. Security on Windows? Don't download/use dodgy/piracy software and you'll have the same security you have on Mac. People claim system stability on Mac is superior... I have my doubts as I'm frequently having app crashes and having to go to the task manager and force quit, while on Windows 11, zero problems nowadays. The list goes on and on...
There are many criticisms about Windows but when it comes to compare it to other systems, when it comes to performance, responsiveness, features, app supports, etc... there is no competence.

Great video. I’m a long time Mac user that switched to Windows recently because of gaming. Although I’m a long time Mac user my daily job primarily involves using Windows. So i’m also a long time Windows user lol. A lot of the things you don’t like are def personal preference. In my case I prefer using screenshots way more on the Mac vs Windows. The Ctrl, Shift, 4 (I’m not at the keyboard now so I don’t know if that is the exact key sequence) to automatically take a screenshot is so much faster than any of the ways it’s done on Windows. I do like your perspective and great video overall.

Apple silicon is one of the biggest changes in computers in as long as I can remember and I worked in computer sales for 4-5byears and kept up with every new release. I've been on Windows since I was 4 years old and have used Macs before but never thrilled with them. I got a refurb M1 Pro 14" as a compliment to my 5900X desktop with 2080 GPU. I now barely ever touch the desktop at all unless it's for gaming as the M1 Pro laptop is as quick as the 5900X system in all but the most intensive tasks.
All in a tiny body with amazing display that I can use anywhere for 6+ hours. Completely bananas

I also recently switched from a windows laptop to a mac and initially i hated a bunch of things, however theres an app or a setting for almost everything. RedQuits quits apps when clicking the red x, rectangle has window snapping (although very basic), AltTab gives you alt tab just like on windows, Maccy is a clipboard manager and finally, with Bartender 5 I hid all the menu bar icons for the apps that normally dont allow you to do so. As for the dock, I set it not to show recent apps and also apps minimize to the dock icon instead of next to the Bin. The one and only thing I dont like now is how macos handles fullscreening an app, but as a workaround i just simply snap windows to the top and it maximizes without going fullscreen.

I agree on quite a lot of things you mentioned in the video! And overall I also think Windows handles multi-task better than MacOS.
One more thing on the multi-task stuff that Windows does better. I can see all my running applications/instances when swipe up using 3 fingers, but on Mac, I can only see the ones that are not minimized and it's super annoying as I have to first check here and if I can not find the one I want , I have to un-minimize a few to see if it was hidden there, what worse is that if you un-minimize the app/instance, you can not click the icon in dock bar again to minimize it, you have to move your mouse to top left of the app/instance to minimize them again...
For an easy photo editing, I can use Photos app on Windows, but the one on Mac seems to be just a viewer.
And PowerToys is amazing to use!
So, I wish Intel and AMD can do better this year, and also hope Qualcomm's new chip could be as good as they stated. I do like the performance and energy efficiency on Mac, but still prefer Windows, not to mention there are quite some interesting designs from Windows OEMs, like the Asus ZenBook Duo 2024, a real duo screen laptop but sill offer the traditional laptop experience.
