    Still love this little camera when I want to go out and film with a very light, small footprint setup. The video quality is very good, and the audio with the four mics works sell. For the battery life issues I have a small power bank and can plus in if I need a little more juice.

    so glad you talked about an external mic, no other reviews have mentioned this as it is so important for me. I have the Rode Wireless 2. Thanks again.

      I've had the Action 2 working with a Zoom H1N recorder acting as an external mic (or audio interface) via USB, in stereo, and I've uploaded a very crude demo of it. It shows that if you have the right external device or connector, it does work. The trouble with the H1N is that it is bigger than the camera!

    Thank you for the honest review. Much better then all the sponsored hyped videos. I already have a GoPro Hero 10 and I will not be going for the Action 2, but it is always interesting to have some information about it.

    Excellent and detailed review. Thank you so much sir. I read somewhere that DJI is working on a feature you mentioned to dump the internal recorded footage from the camera to the SD card (on the accessory) immediately/automatically once you connect the 2 pieces. I like the design feature that also enables charging the main camera unit off of the battery inside the second piece. So one will be able to both copy the files (empty the internal storage) and recharge the battery of the camera unit easily and quickly between the shooting. Also I read somewhere that you can connect a regular 3.5mm lav mic to the A2 via a simple usb-c to 3.5mm adapter. Unfortunately, I am unable to test this yet since I don't have the ability to buy this camera set yet in my country. Looking forward to your future videos.

      I have tested this and the internal files won’t transfer to the Ed card. Big problem for me.

    Seems to be a honest review. I agree I think it is more thought to be shot as a module directly to the micro sd card and then when you need something in water or tighter spaces have the choice to do so. More versatile than any other action cam I think.

    Great information which is very helpful in my decision. Is it possible to turn off the front facing screen when connected to the camera? Thanks for the microphone discovery. You are the first to share this possibility.

    Hi Filmmaker Central,
    Re: overheating, key word is “action” not “studio” camera. Cannot defy thermal physics especially as you said it’s small and waterproof so heat has to dissipate somewhere. Therefore it needs to be outside with airflow. But It has a “high temp” option that allows the temp to rise higher than normal. Have you used this feature yet?

  • @BassManStrikes
    @BassManStrikes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    being able to use the Rhode is cool, but it's still limited to the battery for max recording time. I need a solution for a external mic and a USB power bank at the same time for use on a Kayak or boat.

    • @nomad0714
      @nomad0714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BassMan, for your Kayak use case, a tiny body audio pack like Instamic’s new Pro Plus is an option. It is waterproof up to 1m and for 30min in the case you accidentally dip it in water. It is using Bluetooth so no wires required as you record audio separately and synch with video in post. If you use FCP, you just add both into a project and press synch. Don’t use PP so don’t know if it allows simple audio and video synch. It is also 32bit audio so you don’t need to worry about clipping or speaking too low as you can raise or lower later. And it can record all day. Just another option if you don’t want wires. And the mounting options and small form factor allows you to put it on your helmet or hide it on your body to be more discreet.
      Downside if you prefer to have a lav mic (no 3.5mm jack) or USBC port. It uses USB micro probably as a start up, it cost money to change out the power management module just to add USBC. If you can live without both, it’s a good option. And now it can have timecode synch with the Tentacle Synch E.

    when you connect the camera module to the base module, you can click in the setting to transfer the files from the camera module to the base module which has the sdcard. so you dont need a laptop. also from what ive heard, you can record directly into the sdcard in the base. check the settings. edit: i noticed "Peter" has already stated you can copy files directly to the sd card.

    • @richarddaniel
      @richarddaniel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      good to know Peter... I had to search a bit to get some audio info but as soon as I saw this video I went and purchased.. I can confirm it does work with my rode wireless 2. Pity these cameras just don't put an audio mic input into the camera... make it so much easier.

    • @MrJayschuff
      @MrJayschuff 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not in my experience. The files won’t transfer. Only way to save internal files is to upload to a computer. Talked to two tech supports at DJI today. This is a problem for me

    Did you happen to try an analog mic? Did you try the Cynova adapter?

    • @Ozpeter
      @Ozpeter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cynova does not work - you just need a standard adapter which would work with an Android phone. Admittedly there's not many about - plenty of ones for headphones but few for mics. The H1N can be connected.

    I'm surprised that you seem unaware of how to transfer the internal memory files to the SD card using just the screen module. Really, it's not a problem, and it's certainly way ahead of the broadly similar "Go 2" which has no such ability. If you can't see that option in the SD card menu, you're using out of date firmware. As there is considerable emphasis in your review on this aspect, you might wish to update your introductory text to rectify this omission. Your comments on the 'overheating' aspect are spot on. The laws of physics do apply! Lastly, when you mentioned potential problems in picking up vlogger speech on the internal mics, it's worth noting that in the audio menu you can set it to pick up sound only from the front, which would increase intelligability (spelling??) of speech. But indeed at the end of the day a lav mic is best, and it was useful to see you test the usb mic facility. DJI have stated that it handles stereo sound on that input, by the way.

    • @FilmmakerCentral
      @FilmmakerCentral  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t notice that after I had updated the firmware. Thanks for pointing it out.

    • @Ozpeter
      @Ozpeter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FilmmakerCentral Cheers. My biggest gripe with the camera is that my PC won't recognise it - unlike every other camera in my depressingly large collection. But I guess that's a local issue as nobody else is mentioning that as a problem - I think you would have mentioned it if it was an issue with your PC.

    Cynova made an external microphone adaptor for the OSMO action 1 but I have not seen a single review of the Action 2 where they have tried to see if it is compatible. Do you have any idea whether the adaptor can be used with the Action 2?

      @@Ozpeter so it records directly onto the video footage? Interesting indeed. I have seen elsewhere that USB C shotgun mics are also compatable. A big advantage over the GP 10 which requires an adaptor or the media mod.

I will just keep using the action one and pocket 2. No need spend 500$ plus probably another 100$+ on a wireless mic when what I have is perfect

      @FilmmakerCentral  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BenBenson I am using the public firmware. In fact, you are the only one I have ever heard complain about it unless I missed a conversation somewhere. But I know quite a few people who upgraded to the P2 and not one of the has complained about the tracking.

      @FilmmakerCentral  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BenBenson I tested them side by side because I owned a DJI store and I wanted to make sure the P2 was better before I dropped my own money on buying one for myself. After a month of heavy use and comparisons, we bought the P2 and us it pretty much every weekend and its been great. I have had zero issues with the tracking.
