    Hi, thanks for your video. i purchased the Kiwibird USB C TRS adapter and used both a Rode and Zalman Lav mic and both are clipping extremely fast. They are way too loud.
    I also tried a Boya BY-M3 USB C mic and it's way too loud aswell. Do you have any idea why/ how?

    Which combination do you use inside your motorcycle helmet? I have a purple panda and its too sensitive ... ironically, the Pro Mode only allows to add db ... works perfect with a GoPro Hero8, but just cannot get a good clean sound in my helmet with the DJI Action 2.

    Great video...At this point have you tried it on the last firmware? and how did it go?
    I tried a local brand wireless mic in my country, and I connected it directly using usb type c ~ type c (the mic logo appears) but the mic doesn't work, do I have to try using a 3.5mm jack connector ~ type c so that it works?

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว

      It should just work with type-c to type-c, if the microphone logo appears. That sounds like a problem with your microphone.

    Thank you for explaining. I bought the dji action 2 power combo for my vlogs but indeed the sound recording can not be improved ( very bad ) . I have the DJI osmo action which is perfect. I hope to solve the problem with an external usb c microphone.

    That's a handy collection of audio adapters! It's worth pointing out that the new Rode AI-Micro interface allows two separate lav mics to be connected for interview purposes, and headphones for monitoring and playback. It also supports stereo mics so long as they are self-powered. Cheaper interfaces also allow headphone playback. And I'll also mention that Zoom audio recorders can be connected via their USB socket to the Action 2 USB socket, and used as a stereo mic or as an audio interface with other stuff connected to their mic/line inputs.

      I have the Røde Wireless Go II, both one of the original PicoGear 2 and one of the new long range PicoGear 2 Pro, a DJI wireless mic set (en route) and a bunch of InstaMic's .... so I don't think I need more for now :) But with the DJI Action 2 now just taking a standard USB audio interface, the options are literally endless. Something that is much appreciated.

      You can use a bluetooth headset or mic (airpods, generic bluetooth or instamic) and that'll free up the USB port for charging or using the Android Transfer cable though. InstaMic is not cheap, but the quality of those mics is superb. That option is fairly unique to the Insta360 cams.
      I have some videos upcoming on that, both for the One R and the One X2.

      @@EmeraldAudiovisual nice, I’ve been using the mic adapter and the Rode wireless go, but will experiment with Bluetooth headphones etc. I had forgotten about the Instamic, cheers 👍

    I have not changed the audio-levels in post process. Also, obviously it's possible to add more gain on the Røde Wireless Go II, but I sort of wanted a realistic comparison. I had a look for a link to purchase that Motorola / Denon headset, but have not been able to find any. There should be comparable headsets out there.
    Update 15.02.2022: It seems that, at least on the latest firmware, DJI disables the microphone / headset profile on the USB port, once power is plugged in at the same time. I've tested this with both the ManJiaHui USB audio adapters and using the USB-C hub and it's the same behavior. A bug has been filed with DJI, and I'll see, what they come back with.

    • @nico_albrecht
      @nico_albrecht ปีที่แล้ว

      Did DJI reply? I suspect it was deactivated so that the Cam with Micro use can only be charged via DJI Mic. I don't have a DJI to test it at the moment.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nico_albrecht It's in the standard USB UAC design. The microphone and charging share the same pins, which is the reason that most action cam makers use proprietary USB audio modules, same as DJI did before. DJI moved to standard UAC to support the DJI Mic, while keeping the DJI MIc universally usable for everything else.

    great video. Are all external mics only possible in mono. Or is stereo possible?

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All, the USB sound adapters, that I have tested are TRRS. That means stereo headphones + mono microphone. I've not come across an audio adapter yet, that would take a stereo microphone input. If you record with the DJI Mic and it's USB interface directly connected to the DJI Action 2, then you however do indeed get a stereo track. So if you can find the correct USB audio interface, you can indeed record stereo audio.

      @@EmeraldAudiovisual Thanks.
      Is the usb connection still working, has the "bug" been fixed. Thanks

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are talking about not being able to charge and use the microphone at the same time, that is a limitation in the USB-C hardware design. However, there seems to be a workaround, that works with the DJI Mic. I have not tested this myself, yet.
      I can also confirm, that you get stereo, when using the Røde Wireless Go II, so the Røde AI-Micro should also work for stereo mic input.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can confirm that. Even worse, it does the same with the USB hub, so it's not your mic adapter, that is at fault. It's simply the DJI Action 2 turning off the mic, once you connect a power source. I'm actually going to file that as a bug, because that makes absolutely no sense.

    I cannot believe that there is no way to charge this device and use a external mic. Even with a dual adaptor, the camera only recognises the charger and the external mic disengages and reverts back to onboard cameras. Not happy, I had better mic and charging functionality from the Original DJI OsmO Action

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a design flaw in the standard USB audio design. The same pins are used for microphone and charge. So your headphones work, but your microphone does not.
      That's the reason, that the original DJI Osmo Action, the Insta360 cameras and many others use proprietary microphone dongles/adapters. DJI moved to a standard UAC design to accomodate things like standard USB microphones and their DJI Mic wireless solution.
