In "Driver Assistance", above "Brake Service", toggle "Auto Park Brake" to "Off". Then the system will retract the parking brake when you select "Yes" in answer to the question: "Would you like to retract park brakes to allow for brake system service". The auto park brake was still on, hence why the brake service retraction function was unavailable.

Thank you! I'm also curious to hear your thoughts on using a motive power bleeder with the brake-by-wire system. Alfa calls for a flush every 2 years and I'd love to be able to do that at home but don't want to cause issues.

I'm about to tackle this job but I have a question. On the parking brake when you're pushing it back with the tool you said it only goes to either direction by a certain amount. How would you know that you went too far? Is there normal resistance? And is the resistance so weak that you might end up damaging the parking brake without even knowing? Only part of the job that is giving me anxiety...

great informative video. what is the procedure to do brake fluid flush on alfa. I know its brake by wire system, do conventional "old school" way works on this cars? on most cars that I've done I connect tube in to bottle with little fluid inside to bleeder and open bleeder and pump brakes without turning car on? will that work or you have to use a scanner?

You're lucky you didn't get error codes like me and another guy on TH-cam got after installing the rear brakes. He found out you have to disconnect the car battery before installing the brakes. So he had to go into system and clear the errors with a diagnostic scanner

You should release parking brake first , off auto brake and activate service mode. That is how should be done. You did it in very complicate way. It is very easy to replace rear brake pads and disc as well.

Why did it need new pads and rotors at 18k miles?
