    They pulled it off because they created this sound. They pioneered the whole Nu Metal genre really. All the bands back in the 90s and going into the 2000’s where just following their lead. Korn are the true OG’s of Nu Metal.

    • @jacksmith4460
      @jacksmith4460 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      yeh I would go with this kind of, although I would say it was more about Ross Robinson than Korn, listen to the Korn demo's pre getting signed, nothing like that nu metal sound, if anything was more like a Pantera style production and there was 0 hip hop in it. Also they used to be a band called LAPD pre Davies and they were just a lame RHCP wanna be band nothing of Nu metal in that. But they certainly ran with the Ross Robinson sound.

    • @aikenstodd
      @aikenstodd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The sound was already around before Korn...... if any band pioneered what would become nu metal the credit imo would have to go to the Max and Igor era of Sepultura specifically the album Roots. Chaos A.D. is what set it off and Roots was their full jump into that sound.

    • @mikeallen6828
      @mikeallen6828 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      @@aikenstodd You serious? This song is off their self titled album from 1994. It was produced by Ross Robinson. Ross also produced Roots for Sepultura but it wasn’t released until 1996. Jonathan Davis is on record talking about how he wasn’t happy that Ross basically gave Sepultura Korn’s signature sound. Think about it, Sepultura never tuned down like that before roots and everything before Roots was more “rooted” in thrash metal. Please excuse the pun lol. And another fun fact, Jonathan Davis did guest vocals on Roots for the song Lookaway.

    • @mikeallen6828
      @mikeallen6828 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jacksmith4460 I agree Ross helped refine their sound but they had already released the Neidermeyer’s Mind demo before they worked with him and it very much sounded like Korn. He definitely cleaned their sound up but they already had their sound.

      @@mikeallen6828 tuned down guitars was nothing new to the genre that Sepultura was apart of "check out Entombed Left Hand Path"........ as far as song structure, lack of leads, grooves was all Sepultura on Chaos AD. Thought I'd share my Korn experience. Back in 94, my two guitarists said we're going to see this new band, you have to come. I had never heard of them. In the car on the way, we listened to the CD and their sound (and ultra low tuning....you could actually hear the bass strings flopping around) is what grabbed my attention. We got to the club (the Limelight in NYC) and you enter and go up to the second floor to pay before being let into the second floor bar. We get there and hear the ride cymbal for the beginning of this song and run for the main room. There's a cat walk that surrounds this club as it's an old church and we take the stairs down to the floor. It's packed so we're stacked up the stairs with my two guitarists in front of me on the first two steps and our singer behind me. It gets to the part and Jonathan Davis growls out "Are you ready?" and we get shoved down the stairs. The guitarist in front had no where to go so he grabs the two shoulders of the guys in front of him and hoists himself into the pit. Needless to say, I went out and bought the CD and listened to it for most of my college days. (in the 90's on the NYC subway so Lex ain't wrong there....except I wasn't a goth...) Nice reaction guys, keep em comin!

I knew someone close to the band and heard the album before it was popular and then it was playing between bands at Lollapalooza '94 and more people got into them but when they dropped "Blind" it was over. Listen to "Daddy". They tune down the bass and it adds to the punch of the slap on the low end. Jonathan used to cover 'Black Sheep' and 'Slick Rick' live so he definitely has an old school hip-hop background.

    When I caught Korn live the first time, I kept waiting for them to play this song. The whole set was finished, then the encore started and still no Blind. They played it as their very final song and omfg the crowd when absolutely ape-shit at the ARE YOU REAAAADYYYY breakdown!! I moshed so goddamn hard that when all was said and done my body crumpled to the floor and I couldn't get myself back up. Korn brings out the most primal of instincts with its music. It's ugly and beautiful at the same time.

    It was in 95 we was at a friends house. His older brother came home from a concert that was headlined by Danzig that featuring marylin Manson and Korn. He had bought a cassette tape and was like u guys gotta check this out. He put it in and a Blind came on! It was like the world came down. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing!! And like that Nu-Metal was created!!

    Korn's little touches of 90s hip-hop make their whole sound unique. That's why you like it Brad, you don't even notice sometimes in the song but there is always a groove in the back that makes this more than just metal music
    You gotta do the videos whenever possible, it just adds to the vibe, especially with these guys. Just blur them if you get copyright.
    The Woodstock 99 live version of this is just EPIC! Great reaction.

    First time I ever saw Korn live they opened with this. Can you imagine that? Standing in that crowd, all hyped up, hearing that restrained percussive opening, the occasional interjection of a jagged guitar and that funky ass bass. The whole crowd is electric with anticipation because we know where this is going and we know what's to be asked of us. Then it builds and builds before Jonathan screams "AAAAAREEEE YOOOOUUUU REEEADDYYYY?!" and then the whole crowd loses our shit.
    Absolutely immense!

    Hed pe!! They came out in 93 & still cranking out music today, they also opened for Korn on Korn's 1st major tour. Hed pe is metal, punk music infused with hip hop & sometimes reggae. Songs I suggest are Suffa, Renegade, Ground, Killing Time, Here and Now, Bartender or Blackout. Thx & keep the great reactions coming👊🤟

    This song and KoRN were pivotal for me getting through my teen years. Growing up in a farming community dressed in goth attire made me feel very cast aside. Korn was a bunch of weird guys like myself and it really just helped me embrace my unique personality. I went from being a quite weird kid to one who was much more open.
