    I actually just purchased the truck in this video. I can say I didn't recognize it at first because the paint is in worse shape now. It was off roaded a few times at least. A lot of work was done to it by previous owner, and it still runs and drives great! Probably repaint and do body work in the next year...

    This is the Toyota Hilux SR5 4WD Crew cab pickup truck. A 4WD Crew cab pickup ute that can haul heavy items. It is the unbreakable ute throughout Japan and made from the USA import and may tow 3kg towing capacity.

    I love this old school Hilux ... I had one 1995 and miss a lot ....This type of pick up is still used in Middle East and Asia - particularly Afhganistan ....Why do they use? Because it goes to the extreme ...it never breaks and the engine can reach 1million km ...

      It's also very popular in south America and central america. It's popular everywhere basically, except America, cause we didn't get the double cab and it's a small/midsized truck. Only now midsized pickup trucks are gaining traction, mainly cause they're less thirsty than a full size truck, as gas prices go up sadly

    I never thought that "it's the one the terrorists use" would be a good selling point for an item... I guess it is.. Someone needs to look into Toyota's marketing division.

    The American market did get this version, though not in this configuration, it was just called Pick Up, without a real name. Hilux and Hilux Surf (Tacoma and 4 Runner in the NADM market) share the same suspension components actually, the difference between them is that the Surf (4 Runner) used a coil spring rear axle.

    For those unaware, Toyota discontinued the Hilux after a short run of 1995 models in the US and introduced the Tacoma which is a NA model only. Looks similar and basically doesn’t drive much different than the 5th gen Hilux, but I guess the US execs felt they needed a truck more tailored to the US. Hilux and Tacoma aren’t the same, despite similar styling (they’re still Toyota’s after all)

    It always amazes me we want what we don't have!. Here in Australia we have thousands of these trucks and in better condition that this one. I had one for 13 years did 250,000 km and it was like new. Yet because it was not sold in the US, Americans want them. Here in Australia we want the full size pickups from Chevy and Ford. They were sold here years ago but not recently. Each truck has its charms; I'd seriously recommend any American buyers try to find one in Australia as our dollar is only .75 USD and there are thousands to choose from.

      I'm looking in Japan and Australia. The latest Year we can import is 1993 and it looks like the 2.8 diesels are the way to go.

    • @mickgerkinsquirter1736
      @mickgerkinsquirter1736 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The 2.8 was bullet proof but were all naturally aspirated so good power at low speeds, not so great on the highway. But an aftermarket kit would be available. Top spec here was the SR5, no V6 at that time. Australian price for an immaculate example could be $8,000 to 12,000

      They're everywhere except in the US sadly, companies think Americans don't want smaller trucks but I don't think that's true. A lot of people don't need to carry too much, that a small pickup truck won't carry or tow. Full size Trucks are mostly overkill for most people tbh

    why do you leave the engine on?

    • @PacificCoastAuto
      @PacificCoastAuto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Typically we let the engines run for about 15 minutes during the review to give them a chance to warm up to operating temp. Sometimes problems can only be found once they are warm. It is easier to fix problems before they go off for shipping.

      I'm the guy that won this at auction they go from 450,000Yen - 1,800,000 Yen. They are hard to find without having over 250K KM and rust... lots of rust. This one I won for 750,000Yen, after shipping and paying Derek's fee I'm at $9,000 USD right now. (this will go up especially if the US customs person views this as a 25% taxable truck).. Derek and pacific Coast have been a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend them. Crazy part is that in my part of the US a 2000-2004 4Door 4x4 Tacoma gas 3.4L w/ 200,000 miles goes for 9 -14K... So even after shipping and taxes, importer fees, PC fees I will be in the same neighborhood.

      Hey thanks alot for the reply. In the US still a decent one with well over 200k still will go for a good 6k n up. So i consider that a solid to a very good deal.

    Hi, Dude! How is going? :-)
    I just can't understand why do this Hiluxes still cost more than mine Mitsubishi L200 (or JDM Strada) MY'2005? Mine has an ABS, power windows and mirrors, a pneumatic rear DiffLock, two 90 A*h batteries, widebody fenders, seat heaters and 120bhp 2.5 turbodiesel? WHY???
    Only because of solid front end or due to it is a 25-year old Toyota which won't break? :-D (Added) Oh, mean, this one even has an independent suspension.
    Why, Derek? Why are they so expensive? Is is an utility cheap vehicle. Why even a Surf is cheaper?
    Nice photo at 1:14. :-)

      Easy, because only actual cowboys ride this horse and when a cowboy invests in a horse, he makes money with it instead of just showing off. ;)
