I'm a tech for Toyota main dealer and I knew you were going to say about the fuel sender before you even said it! Sometimes they do however get misdiagnosed as a faulty gauge cluster too as you mentioned. The brake pads do also have a habit of sticking on the holding pins causing uneven wear so it's important to clean them at every major service.
Have you ever heard of a car (Toyota Verso 1.8 petrol auto) having acceleration problems "only" when fuel is below half tank? Mystery to all the mechanics I have spoken to. No warning lights. Passes MOT. Idles perfectly. Starts fine. I just keep filling up until I know what to do? Diagnostics shows no codes. Would be pleased if you could resolve this mystery.
@@JohnSmith-cs7jg I've tried premium fuel for a few months and Injector cleaner and petrol system cleaner. No difference. Someone also suggested purge valve or fuel pump on its way out? Stumped as costly to start changing the wrong things.
@@sullivanl3305 The pickup truck was invented by Henry Ford. This is just a mid-size version of a pickup, so truck or pickup is the correct name. Utes were originally based on cars and had a integrated bed (similar to the Honda Ridgeline). Australians and NZers kept calling everything with a bed a ute even though there really aren't many utes anymore.
“If everybody looked after their cars like this” soo true. Many think cars should look after themselves then moan when something fails. This looks clean for a pick up. Great video.
May I tell you all a story, about a Hilux I had in Australia? I had a HiAce work van, which got to a zillion miles and I was given a Hilux ute. (Pick-up) It had 500km on it when I arrived at the office one day. As I got out, I was hit on the shoulder, then noticed large lumps of hail starting to land, so I ran inside. I then watched my 500km Hilux get totally destroyed. Look it up; Perth WA, 2010.
Oh that's horrible. Why couldn't it have been the old van. I've seen this in action. Years ago I was doing my work permit stuff in Sydney. Sitting there at home, sunny outside. Then I heard this racket starting , like a train running through the garden. Looked out in disbelief at millions of golf balls raining down everywhere. I was just off parramatta Rd, where there were loads of car dealerships. The damage was in the millions.
Here in Namibia, that is still the truck/bakkie, I own a 2013 with 80 000 miles on it, great example. In Namibia the new Hilux cost €47 000. Explore this market!
Nice to see Matt actually buying a nice car that been looked after and the inside doesn't look like a tip a lot of car for a bargain price for the long haul a much better investment than any Land or Range Rover

If you can't get shot of it, stick it on a boat and send it over here to New Zealand ... every second vehicle is a Hilux (with the other option being a Ford Ranger pickup/ute)

This is as close as a pickup can come to being a modem classic. With the sprayed black wheel arches. All the tasteful crome and the nice wheels. It's Friday of a long weekend here in NZ and I can look out on a sea of white Hiluxes in the district council carpark. They are very popular here and second hand prices are ridiculous

Huge, imposing, heavy duty, four wheel drive, tough as nails with a bomb proof agricultural engine - the perfect dog carrier. My uncle uses a Ford Fiesta for the same thing - although he doesn't mind the smell of dogs. I suppose that's handy if you have one.
Lol at the glasses. Total surprise! Love this vid - sometimes my heart sinks when you look at all these sheds you pick up (not that I should feel for you too much - swanning around in your white RR) and this one made me feel really cheerful. Nice one!
Good result Matt. Agree Toyota parts are crazy expensive. I was quoted 850 for a rear bumper and 350 for a headlight unit. I think they want to make sure somebody doesn't buy all the parts and assemble their own cars at home.
Hello Matt, i have just finished doing a thorough detail on my 57 reg alfa romeo 159, spent the last 8 hours on it. I also saw that alfa romeo had put the poles for the middle headrest in the wrong place, HOW ALFA ROMEO IS THAT. Anyway.. released just in time to reward myself for gutting the interior and exterior. Nice video Matt!
Which segment of cars do you consider selling with the best profit margin? Also what car were you surpised with selling the most (type of car) in your fleet? Love you content. Love from Indian and ze land of Maschinenbau
they have a 2.5 and a 3 (newer is 2.4 or 2.8) Looks mint! Mudflaps still in place, the 2011-2015 facelift. Still has the plastic caps in the rear bar. Never been offroad. In the Netherlands (Left. wheel drive) it would do 23k Euro. note that coolant is a bit low!
coolant is correct hight when down low in the bottle ........fill to the top when bleeding the system and keep topping it up while the engine ticks over ........when it stops taking coolant and starts to fill above the bleed at the top of the bottle , stop adding coolant .........then bring for a 20 km test drive and when the engine cools off after , suck out the coolant above the high line near the bottom of the bottle .......
I don't need one of these but they strike me as a great " Swiss army knife" vehicle. With the towbar and Truckman top you have got a very versatile motor which will last you until you get bored of it.
Yes Matt, that was already a very clean truck. Why oh why do u spend money changing the mats & waxoiling underneath?. I think the new owner could decide to do that if they choose. Anyway, a very clean truck for that money - I hope your mate appreciates!!

You can’t beat Toyota. Absolutely indestructible truck. I watched an episode of top gear once where they dropped this from a height via crane, let it sink in a lake then dragged it out and then set it on fire and it still started 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I really enjoyed this video. Selling my current car (RR Vogue SE SDV8) as I need to free up some money for a house renovation. Looking for a ‘workhorse’ and had considered one of these for the job. Very informative as always.
Toyota Hilux/Fortuner models were recalled in South Africa for faulty fuel gauges . The vehicle runs dry while still showing 1/4 tank and 120km of range . Apparently a dry solder joint in the back of the instrument cluster .
1:07, I totally thought you were behind the wheel of the Hilux, and I couldn't believe how neat the inside of the Toyota looked. And guess what? It even has a sunroof! Wow!
Well bought. In South Africa this year Hilux was factory recalled to replace the fuel float sensor by Toyota. Awesome car. Backbone of South african pickups ( bakkies )
I've got a 2015 SR5 in Australia, its completely stock with similar miles/kilometres and its currently worth over $40k AUD. thats currently the average price for a used hilux atm. crazy that its double the price over here. They are extremely common in Aus and for good reason, their bullet proof and reliable, go anywhere, easily customisable, and of course its a toyota so it holds its value and in my case actually goes up in price since i bought it. My first car after getting my licence was a shitbox passed down from my brother for free, and when that inevitably gave up, i knew for my "first" real car that i bought myself, technically 2nd car, i wanted something reliable, and since i've always wanted a ute. The hilux was a no brainer. i've had it for a couple years now and its my pride and joy, it's got a very thorough service history and i plan on taking some tips from your vid and getting it painted undernear and around the wheel arches for protection, and doing a gearbox service, too. Great vid mate! thanks for the tips.
I'm impressed to see Toyota actually changed the stalks around for Europe so that the indicator is on the left stalk like normal. Normally it's on the right. Never seen that before.
It’s only one of the good ones if you stick to servicing schedules which are arduous, regardless of that my mates 70plate Invincible X has blown up at 38k miles, whereas my 71plate Wildtrak 52k miles still goes strong. My second motor is a 22plate R-Dynamic HSE Disco, so principally I am with your man and his views as to which vehicles are best. LR/RR fan 4 life!! 😊

Know somebody who’s got one as there pony club car, for towing the trailer about and for chucking the labs in the back, always looks after it. Priv reg, looks the part.
This has to be the cleanest part exchange I've ever seen. Kudos to the previous owner 👍
It's Friday of a long weekend here in NZ and I can look out on a sea of white Hiluxes in the district council carpark. They are very popular here and second hand prices are ridiculous
Nice car at a very reasonable price .
You could have got more money for this car .
But the honesty in you and selling it to a friend is just like you Matt
Well done Son
Kevin
Huge, imposing, heavy duty, four wheel drive, tough as nails with a bomb proof agricultural engine - the perfect dog carrier. My uncle uses a Ford Fiesta for the same thing - although he doesn't mind the smell of dogs. I suppose that's handy if you have one.
This is a mid-size. Nowhere near huge.
Love from Indian and ze land of Maschinenbau
old aussie saying , if your going into the bush take a landrover. if you want to come back take a Toyota
“ I was pulling it the wrong way!!” ….they all say that!! What a well sorted utility vehicle!! Well done sir!
they have a 2.5 and a 3 (newer is 2.4 or 2.8)
Looks mint!
Love seeing the XC70 in the background!
Hi Matt!
Absolutely love Your videos. Keep them coming because they are very "down to earth" and at the same time, entertaining.
I have a succestion for You. Why not take the SL to Spain and film the trip and the stunning Spanish scenery?
I think I will
You can’t beat Toyota.
Been awhile since the video was a longer video with good reason. Good for you.
Wow!
The rear of the car looks soo much better. Glad you changed that handle.
Wow your brave 😂 17:02 , those glasses were resting on a used tissue.
Both tow heavily and are used for their intended purposes. I’ve owned 8 Rangers and they’ve never let me down.
My second motor is a 22plate R-Dynamic HSE Disco, so principally I am with your man and his views as to which vehicles are best. LR/RR fan 4 life!! 😊
The legendary Toyota Hilux. Was first introduced to a certain motoring show when I watched three very entertaining men try to completely destroy one.... and fail miserably at it! _"It's still alive!"_ 😆
Didn't we love that show?... lol
@@rbnhd1144
Yes. It doesn't work with three other men. It never will.
The disappointment in your face when the aircon started working 🤣 I've been watching these videos for a while now. You probably hate the fact you can't overspend in this truck
I spoke too soon 🤣
Matt, the cost of the steering wheel: most likely included the airbag unit - try to buy a "stripped" steering wheel, and transfer the expensive parts.
Not a fan of that jacket sleeves are too short.
Great vid love the glasses quality of these videos are getting more sharp every week top job entertaining commentary 👍
This is definitely something I would like exported to Zambia. As usual nice content.
I am amazed by the very fair price you did to your friend. Genuinely.
The high idle button is good if you are jump starting another vehicle.
Hi Matt Toyota is all about reliability,as opposed to jaguar and land Rover products. 700 quid profit is not bad.
You simply cannot go wrong with one of these. Except where I live in Western Australia where the market is flooded with ex mining ones.
Awesome stuff Mat❤
I hope you looked underneath it you need to check the frame to the body mounts and the floorboards. If it hasn’t given been kept clean it can be as rotten as a pear also the filler neck and straps for the fuel tank
I think I would rather have the HiLux over your Rangie mate, a great purchase , very nice!
I have been watching your channel and it has motivated, inspired me to start my own in Uganda.
It was always a vision for me to do this kind of business.
Ah very good. Good luck
Thank you.
I will share the images with you high Peak Autos as soon as I start.
Lad I grew up with, trained mechanic ferrari, sells the odd high spec car but made a million selling Van's, builders aren't worried about light bulbs the odd scratch, start n stop is good
I'd get a Ranger, but this generation of Hiluxes are really indestructible and quite comfortable. A bit wobbly at speed, but all of them are...also slooow gearbox, but indeed a great buy for the dog business
Hi Matt, well done on the truck, as you said in the video it was good to start with, the end result was brilliant, and your mate gets the perfect work vehicle for good price.cheers Phil form Newark
Nice vehicle, good to see that Toyota are still doing it, basically, right. A good all around deal💜✌️😊👍
Another great, honest, video! I'm just waiting for the right car to appear in stock and I'll be up there from Cambridge like a shot!
