Just a note on the hillstart assist, it only holds the brakes for about 1-2 seconds or until the engine has enough power to move the car. Whichever comes first. But if you stall. You can still roll into the person behind you.
My Mustang is manual, I don’t have an issue with hill starts anymore. But that 1-2 seconds can sometimes not be enough for a person brand new to manual.

Notice the cup holders on the S550, go ahead put two medium soda drinks in them and go for a drive your shifting hand will not feel interrupted in any way, whereas in the S197 chassis because the cup holders where directly under the shifter you could not shift the car at all. The biggest improvement they did for manual drivers on the s550 was moving the cup holders in a way where you can use them and still shift the car as if they were empty.

This is an amazing video! Videos like this are what makes me want to buy a manual. Seeing as how so much technology has gone into the development of modern manual transmissions, they are not as hard to drive as they used to be. Also considering that mustang has a lot of power, the car rolls alot easier and you can get into gear alot quicker.

Easiest to drive a manual as beginner is a torque y4 cylinder non turbo diesel. Drove an old Toyota Hiace with a 3.0 no problem starting on uphill to feel to bite or starting on 2nd gear on flat. You can put 1st gear and release the clutch, it won't kill the engine.

I love power shifting. If you know what you're doing and have the stops set on the shifter so you won't bend the shift forks you'll be fine. A good aftermarket clutch helps too. I'd say 3rd would be the most common gear missed power shifting but if you've been doing it since 16 years old then you don't miss a gear anymore. I havent missed a gear in probably 20 years

I think the MT82 is a horrible transmission, but I feel like your changes with the clutch spring and shift knob have helped it quite a bit from it's stock form? I've only driven 3 cars with a manual transmission and my favorite one is on a 2019 Fiesta ST that I have. To each their own for sure. Mine is 100% stock and I feel like I can either drive it "decently hard" on the streets and be smooth, or if I try and go all out.... it's a disaster.

That title is inaccurate when you compare it to any car with a German manual. Even without rev matching it's no where the easiest manual to drive simply because even after the changes, the mt82 is crap. The best mods to make it better would be deleting the assist spring 100%, getting a trans mounted shifter, and dropping a new clutch even though it has a twin disk already. It has terrible lock out for 3rd and 2nd. You hop in a 2016 M2 manual and it's almost from a different planet with how easy it is and how much abuse it can take.

How are you? Did you purchase the perch kit along with the spring? Or only the spring?

Great perspective on the manual! I’ve been looking into a S550 for a while and considering auto but I know I’d miss shifting my own gears.

There is no remote start for the manual and the adaptive cruse control cannot break a lot since you have to down shift
