    A manual trans these days are truly for the enthusiast's who want that one to one driving experience, definitely not for everyone, but like you mentioned it's just not all about how fast you can go in a straight line. I had a 15' GT/PP mustang and never had an issue with the stock manual trans in the 4 years I had it, now in a 19' GT350 it just got better.
    Enjoy your manual as it's just a much more engaging driving experience.

      The GT350 gets the Tremec T56. Although the MT82 isn’t actually as problematic as many people think. From what I’ve read, the issue really lies in the stock clutch Ford used.

    My last car was a BMW M2 with the DCT transmission. A fine car but the involvement was slightly lacking. Purchased a 2023 Mustang GT with a 6 speed transmission. Just as fast but more enjoyable. If the car is just for yourself and you enjoy drives on the weekend, a manual shifting transmission restores the involvement and integration. It so nice reliving the late 60's vibe.

    I just test drove an automatic GT performance pack and a manual GT performance pack, back to back. I’ll take the manual all day, every day. I honestly did not like how the 10 speed shifted. Especially at slower speeds through town. It seemed to hunt for gears too much. The manual was so much more engaging to me. To each their own though.

      I've had a 18gt pp1 manual transmission sucked.. before I bought the car it only had 6800 miles on it 3rd and 5th were replaced. Those gears went out on me 4 months later.. bought another mt82 and after 6 months lost 5th. I sold that car to carmax got me a 10 speed and love it. Throw it in sport mode.. my only regret is not gettin one the first time. Car is reliable and a helluva lot quicker. This 10 speed stock with x pipe and borla atak muffler is faster than my pp1 manual that was catless headers jlt and lund tuned. I rather my transmission hunt gears than me lol.

    I've asked a lot of people who own MT82 2018+ GT's and none of them have had any problems or complaints. These include two people who regularly track their car, along with a Steeda rep based on their experience with two of their race cars. Having said that I have a 2019 GT PP 10R80 and HATE the unresponsive paddle shifting. I'm seriously considering going back to a manual 2021 GT PP.
    EDIT: someone I know who has a 2013ish V6 (early MT82) said he hates it and often experiences the high rpm lockout. He has also installed a couple of aftermarket parts related to the shifter/shifting mechanism which is supposed to improve some of the MT82 issues.

    I bought a Lighting Blue 17 Performance Pack manual.. It only had 1 owner, 8,909 miles on her last year.. I love this car.. He's soo right it sounds played out to go on about how much more fun the manuals are but they are.. He's also right about the DCT's and the 10 speeds too.. If I was going to do an auto sport car it would be a DCT for sure.. But God I am going to say it even with the dreaded MT82, There's nothing Like Rowing Your Own Gears.. And honestly the MT82 gets a Bad wrap, All I did was a Braided Clutch Line, Syncro shift 2, a Steeda Body Mount and it feels great to me now. There's a lot of guys happy with the stock power and the best part about the manuals is they are cheaper to fix when they go too.. But yeah the Manuals are fun and wild once turned up. Driving a manual car is becoming a lost art almost.. Save the manuals..

    I know I'm 3 years late, but I 100% agree. There's more of an emotional/ mental connection with the stick compared to the paddles. Better connection to the car, more emotional feel, better engagement with the surroundings. Just freakin' cooler. Also, I'm sure that guys who drive a stick have higher testosterone levels. hahahaha! Mine's coming in a few months. Can't wait.

    In my area there is only one dealer that consistently stocks any manual transmissions. The rest did searches with the criteria I wanted and basically told me I'd have to do a special order. Lucky for me I found one I was happy with at the one dealership that stocks a couple of them a year. The only thing it didn't have that I wanted was the active exhaust. Which isn't a deal breaker, it just allows me to pick one that I want. There are definitely fewer of them out there and will make them even more difficult to find in excellent condition down the road. I also agree with this guy that it makes driving it a more special exciting experience. I test drove an automatic and it was nice. It just didn't feel the same in the fun category to me.

    It appears people that state the "unresponsiveness" nonsense have driven a Non-PP1 GT 10R80, a PP1 GT 10R80 in any mode but "Track Mode", or have not driven a 10R80 mustang at all. The 10R80 uses adaptive shift speed and line pressures based off of variables such as the mode, trq requested, and speed. I am sure that it can be made to shift at full speed and pressure all the time with some tuning, however, that would be a not so great daily. Track mode bangs gear at WOT pretty damn fast with the paddles, and is the only mode that does from MOE. I have had both in the S550 chasis, and anyone that says the 10R80 "ONLY is for the dragstrip" doesn't have a clue, and if you on a PP1 with 10R80 saying it then you need to really drive your car!

    • @caffeinatedmotors
      @caffeinatedmotors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      macace21 I had an 18 10 speed auto full spec’d out with PP1 and those paddle shifters in all modes took its sweet ass time. Upshifts took half a second and downshifts could take up to a whole second when pressed. It’s super unresponsive compared to the zf autos and dual clutches in cars today. Sure if you leave it in auto it works nicely but manually controlled whether in sport normal or track the thing takes forever

    • @caffeinatedmotors
      @caffeinatedmotors  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Now with tuning sure, but you shouldnt need to lose your warranty to shift fast manually

    • @macace21
      @macace21 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will agree with this, but then again in comparison there are many examples of how to setup ZF shift strategies while the 10R80 is rather new and limited to a much smaller performance base. Shift strategies should only get faster with time and performance renditions.

    Your theory on your car depreciating less because it’s a manual is wrong. Only about 4% of new cars are sold as manuals and less then 15% of people know how to drive them, most of them being truck drivers. They sit on the lot for so long until the rotors are rusted and trashed. I worked at a dealer and these are impossible to sell unless you get lowballed.

    If you have a mustang 18+ manual first upgrades you need and its a must is 4.09 gears, mmr lightweight pulley and intake with tune if its on warranty go with ford performance calibration and thank me later. Don’t waste money on stupid mods, the car become more enjoyable on daily drive and ready to race.
    Don’t forget these to make the engine healthy (Reische 170 thermostat, JLT catch can)

    btw mt82 sucks because the shifter is linked to chassis instead of the tranny itself, make it harzardous when shifting, and when you do aggresive pull the chassis twisting+ wheel hop don't help, a better short shifter will make it great

      I couldn't agree more. When I was shopping my 5.0 I was up in the air to what I wanted. The automatic I test drove - drove like shit in my opinion. Searching for gears and just very unrefined feeling for an automatic. I drove the auto first before driving the manual. It almost put me off the 5.0 all together the automatic was so bad. In the end I ended up buying a six speed 2020 premium with 7k miles on it and 20 inch wheels, white and digital dash. Couldn't be happier !!

  • @Blackdawn80

    There are no "hassles" with driving a manual and anyone who says they cannot daily one is just stupid. After a while, driving stick becomes second nature like breathing or blinking your eyes. Anyone who has driven manual can agree.

  • @xanderbeck7095

    How damning is the transmission on these cars? I hear a ton of bad things but this car in manual is literally my dream car

    • @eyecontrol4900
      @eyecontrol4900 ปีที่แล้ว

      The issue with the MT-82 generally lies in the shift linkage (not being especially robust/rigid) and the underlying bracketing. The MT-82 has the shifter mounted directly to the chassis via the transmission tunnel. Under hard acceleration/rpm and load, the engine and transmission twist under the torque of the engine (this is normal to an extent on every car), however most manual transmissions (for high powered cars) mount the shifter and linkage directly to the transmission, not the chassis like the mustang's design. This means the transmission moves and twists, but the shifter and linkage doesn’t move with it since it’s bolted to the chassis directly.
      This leads to an inconsistent shifter feel, grinding, high rpm lockout, and all those other things you hear about in the forums. Add the scenario of driver at a drag strip trying to shift aggressively and quickly to a shifter design that doesn’t like to be hurried and you have a recipe for complaints and issues.
      It's a shame Ford dont put the Tremec into the standard GT's

    In your year I totally disagree the 18 and 19s are only faster then previous year mustangs in the 10 r80. I wish now I would have gotten a 6 speed in my s197 but my 10r80 was great at shifting. I only use my car to race I daily a new ranger with the 10 speed and everyday my ranger makes me miss my pp1 10 speed. The 6r80 is a good trans but the gear ratio is to long to make me happy. The 10 speeds pull and pull threw out all the gears. I’m happy my wife and I have 10 speeds the raptor 10 speed in her truck is crazy in put in sport or Baja mode. I’m to old to say sticks are drivers cars I drove sticks all my life and to me I don’t need the headaches in traffic.

      I had a manual in my 2014, it was more fun to drive, but I'm also a retired old guy and drove many manuals I had to learn to drive on one and was afraid what happens if I stall while taking my road test. My first and second pickups were sticks & never like it when you could no longer get a full-size pickup truck with a stick. The new Mustang GT I went with the Auto, now I don't have to from the little lady we have to use her car. She would always say what if something happened and I got sick we wouldn't get home since she could not drive a stick (she didn't want to learn) I missed the stick at first. But the auto is nice in traffic jams and that was when my 14 was no fun to drive, now with the auto I don't get frustrated, I can enjoy the radio and figure out the all the gadgets this new GT has. This GT is the premium and that is worth getting as the 14 was a base, it's just much nicer. Also, if I'm still driving in 10 years hopefully, I wonder if I really want to be driving a stick, but if I was still young, I'll get the stick. Anyone looking to buy a use GT should look for an old guy or lady selling one, since I don't beat on the car and you probably will get a low mileage well taken care of GT, there is probably a lot of us that will be selling in the future when we get our new GT walker with a racing stripe going down the bar.
