It's crazy how one of the best 3D Sonic games of all times isn't even about Sonic, it's about Shadow. But at the same time, if any character deserved having such a universally praised game, it's Shadow the Hedgehog. I'm always surprised when I see people who dislike Shadow when he's just an excellent addition to the franchise. Superficially, Shadow is cool, no doubt there but he's so much more than that. The thing that makes Shadow amazing is his story. He's such a well written character who really blew the door open for how tragic and serious a Sonic story is allowed to be. I got emotional in that final cutscene and it's because Shadow really is the kind of character that can carry a story like this, a story that deserves to be told and deserves to appreciated. Good job Sega, I hope you continue to push the boundaries of what stories can be told in Sonic (and Shadow) games.
I think the main reason a lot of people dislike Shadow is because they think he is furry Vegeta (when in my opinion I would compare him more to...say Android 17)

Okay, he didn't say that last part.😆
Honestly, i agree with you on how they should've saved the Mephiles boss reveal until the game release. The whole build-up to him is so good. You literally find his gate at an underground area, hidden away from everything else, with a different mysterious ambient theme; you need FOUR keys to unlock the gate instead of three. And when you fight him... To Shadow, it's just another obstacle in the way to defeat Black Doom. To Mephiles... it's a fight for survival. He clings onto this one chance to defeat Shadow and be brought back onto the main timeline. He wants to break free from the prison between time and space. He wants to *exist.* God, it's peak...
Shadow Generations is probably my second favorite Sonic game as of now. It’s just amazing. (To anyone who cares, my favorite game’s Unleashed) Also, I don’t know how I slept on Supporting Me for so long, it’s one of my new favorite Sonic songs

One of those songs where I prefer the remix because of the emphasis on the guitar. Sonic X Shadow Generations is officially the first Sonic game I've played fully. The great reviews made me willing to give it a shot. I loved Shadow Generation's campaign. One of my new favorite platformers .
Some of the best designed levels in years tbh. I prefer this style over the “open world” or whatever of sonic frontiers any day it’s so much better. Even the chaos island levels in gens is more fun than frontiers.
Notice how different Mephiles' fighting style is compared to 06. Back then, he was just playing with Shadow. Now, it's on sight. He tried to ice Shadow the way he did Sonic.
Sonic X is peak I clearly remember myself being at the edge of my seat watching those episodes with my siblings and I've been thinking on rewatching it because my younger self memories could not do it justice
Time to blow your mind: Radical Highway is Black Doom's Domain Expansion. Think about it. When activated, it takes you to another area where the terrain is warped, AND it had a distinct ability that's pretty OP, that being the ability to nullify Chaos Control.
I am very sorry Luigi (not at all, not even close, what a bozo)... BUT THIS... THIS IS HOW YOU MAKE A YEAR ABOUT A CHARACTER! ALL HAIL SHADOW! AND LONG LIVE THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM!

Damn. Just... damn. This was easily one of, if not THE, coolest and most badass Sonic experiences I have ever witnessed. Now I'm even more excited to get the game and play it all for myself. I legit avoided any and all news and/or trailers just to see it all unfold before me completely blind, and I don't even care if this is spoilers. This was just way too awesome to pass up. Congrats, Choc! Can't wait to see what comes next for you! And I'd definitely love to see you tackle Secret Rings and Black Knight at some point too; I genuinely love those games, Black Knight especially. Also, can I just say how kickass Robbie Daymond's performance of Mephiles is in this? Like, this man just cannot miss!
Funny parallel between Shadow05 and Shadow Gens: In Shadow05 in some of the endings when defeating Eggman, he says “I made you & this is how you repay me?” with Shadow answering “I am Shadow [….] This is who I am!” Now I’m the final cutscene with Neo Devil Doom it’s pretty similar, although the order of the liens are switched, with Doom saying “I crafted everything up to now & you would deny me?” and Shadow saying “I am Shadow the Hedgehog, this is the destiny I choose!”
Shadow is one of the main inspirations for why I like the edgy type of characters and black and red color palettes I 100% completed the original Shadow game and I 100% completed Shadow Gens as well. I still put on the soundtrack on a daily basis because the game is just stuck in my head.
The fact that you didn't ONCE get the cool Chaos Control cutscene against Metal Overlord by timestopping to homing attack the debris is ludicrous to me
Oh nice, we get to play Rail Canyon without risking being thrown off into the abyss if you try to switch rails. 14:12 wait nvm i take it back, now that's the autentic rail canyon experience.
The best part about the ship parts being a clock is that its a clock... in a place where time doesn't exist.... and its a big waste of time 😁 Sonic team be trolling.
a trick i saw in a different video: Speedrunners already figured out that if you Dash,, jump, then fire Chaos Spear rapidly, you will keep going at Dash speed, allowing you to do some really wild level skips! oh, and have you ever watched "Sonic Prime"?

I have been avoiding all other shadow generation videos and spoilers so I could go into the Choctopus playthrough as blind as possible. Not even going to watch it today because I need to make sure I have the proper time for one sitting and snacks on deck.

That was good. Doom morph took a while to get used to. You probably know now, but if you let go of the swing button after you are under the orb, you get launched through it.
I remember pausing my playthrough of this game on Act 1 of Chaos Island because it was late and I was having trouble with Doom Morph in the beginning. Didn't do too well on the first full run of it either (I'm talking C rank at most). I've since revisited it in order to get the keys, learned the routes as well as how to control the morph (in that level at least), and got an S rank for it. Progress! Now I'm thinking I might have a chance to actually S rank all of the normal stages. I've never attempted to all A/S-rank before. The hard mode challenges are another beast though. I've tried a couple of challenges and bosses.... 😬
Shadow is the only reason in my mind why this franchise is staying so strong because he's such a perfect protagonist in a story he has so much more depth than the mascot of Sega. Shadow fans are the best ❤️💛🖤
