    Beautiful to watch. That Porsche looked a bit quicker, maybe bigger brakes, but you pulled your BMW expertly into and out of those corners - that's where you ate him. I love your attitude: the most important mod is the driver upgrade mod. My cart instructor used to beat that into us; he would ALWAYS take the slowest cart available and the kick all of us to the curb in it. (He was the world champion at the time).
    Inspirational videos. Thanks.
    Hey, how good are the BMW seats in hairpins? Do they keep you in place?

      Thanks so much! Haha cool story. 🤙
      Personally, there’s something so satisfying and rewarding about driving a slower car. You can reach the limit sooner, and it’s that dance on the edge which is where the real fun begins :)
      My BMW has the sports seats which I really like. They have adjustable (by air volume) side bolsters and feel pretty secure in the hairpins. They are also comfortable for long rides.

    Smokes! From someone who has watched your times drop and been inspired by it, that was some edgy driving! What was your tire set up on this day? And how was it there appeared to be no other cars in the group? Well done!

      @Milkywave  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rick-N Thanks! So awesome that you’ve been inspired.
      Tire setup was Hankook RS4 235/40/18 in the front and 255/35/18 in the rear.
      It was the last session of the day and at least half of the cars in the group did not run :)

    Have you needed to upgrade intercooler or oiling with the stock tune to survive hot track days? I got to Thunderhill and Sonoma a lot and looking at 135i’s for a new toy!

    • @Milkywave
      @Milkywave  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I avoid the track on hot days but it should be fine without intercooler or upgraded oil cooler on the stock tune. The stock intercooler sheds heat fairly quickly on the track so it’s okay until you add power. I do run the 335is/1M auxiliary water cooler and use 100% distilled water with 2 bottles of Red Line Water Wetter - but these are more for engine reliability and longevity. I love this car and want to keep her in top health :)
      Try running a quality motor oil like Motul 8100 X-cess 5W-40 with distilled water for coolant and see how the car runs on a hot track day. It might be all you need.

    Whens the remap coming? Be good to see what 350whp knocks off your lap times

    • @Milkywave
      @Milkywave  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Reliability is a top priority for me so it will come eventually but after other upgrades such as wider fenders/tires and maybe some further tweaks to the suspension - so it still has yet to be a bit faster before a remap. Once the car has proven to still be reliable at that point, I’ll proceed with the remap. By then, the car should be at least 4-5 seconds faster around this track.

      @@Milkywave Maybe a bit late to the party but before you track with a tune I suggest an oil accumulator like an Accusump (unless you want to do a more expensive solution with baffles and a secondary oil pump).
      Reason I say this is my MHD stage 2+ N55 lasted about 25 minutes on track before seizing up :) Oil starvation is a concern for street car engines.
      Or at the very least, maybe "overfill" your oil for the track session and drain out the excess afterwards.
      Additional cooling isn't a bad idea either.
      Those tunes are fine for the street but the track is a whole different level of stress for the engine.
      Some good driving though, you make the car look like it is tuned lol.

    • @Milkywave
      @Milkywave  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MaddmattH Yes this is certainly a problem with the N55 engine. This happened twice to a friend’s at this track, and his N55 had an upgraded oil pan with baffles installed before the second time happened. He was only running a mild Dinan tune. I’ve met several others at the track who experienced the same with their N55.
      Fortunately, this doesn’t seem to be an issue for the N54. I’ve spoken to drivers who’ve tracked their tuned N54’s countless times over the years (including club racers) and they have been free of any engine problems (besides overheating due to insufficient cooling).
      At one point I strongly considered being proactive and doing those upgrades, but I became convinced it’s not necessary for the N54.
      Thanks, it felt like I drove the car as fast as I could that day. A good tune should get the car under 1:40 paired with wider tires and proper cooling :]

  • @Sergio-rn7os
    @Sergio-rn7os 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yo what's good, why haven't you tuned it. Can't wait to see and drop a few Gs for tune, exhaust and maybe a CAI, a ported throttle body, and or ported manifold?

    • @Milkywave
      @Milkywave  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm holding off on adding power to keep the car as reliable as possible on the track. The car is still super fun to drive with the stock tune.
      My primary focus is the driver mod. I believe in developing driving excellence with the least amount of power and mods. I plan to continue pushing the car to its limits of speed and lap time as a driver until the car's setup cannot go any faster. Then the car will be ready for incremental upgrades such as wider fenders/tires. New limits will be explored. Only until then I feel the option of power can be considered.
      So engine tuning is the very last in my book! This is a longer journey but the most rewarding one as a driver IMHO. 😊

    • @sungillestlee63
      @sungillestlee63 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Milkywave This is sooo truth!! I was a modded car guys until i actually went to track days couple times. Driver mods before anything. I learned my lesson from track... I should have not modded my car 😭. (Mine is Dinan Stage 2, Intercooler, intake, exhaust, suspensions)

    • @Milkywave
      @Milkywave  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sungillest Lee Try going to Dinan and have them restore engine software to stock. They should be able to reflash the ECU with your software again later.

      @@Milkywave very true on that, I just want to see you pass all this more expensive cars that are racing next to you like hell, you know what I mean that they won't know what hit them. Just crackles and pops right in front of them

    • @Milkywave
      @Milkywave  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sergio lol thanks for the support. That will happen eventually! I almost can’t wait but I know the wait will be worth it and I will be better able to push the car when the time comes.✌️
