This is one of the reasons I like your work... I love painting with oils and the idea that gouache can achieve a similar style in its own way I find as a captivating idea.
I love this style of painting, but had no idea it was referred to as ‘painterly’, seems obvious/appropriate when you think about it 😂. Love the final landscape!
I’m in love with your little sheep! (Sheeps? Ships? Sheepisses?) The way you apply colors on their little bods illustrates the principles of shape and shadow and stroke that you’re talking about. So much to learn! But it helps when you make clear what this learning enables us to so with our painting. 🫶 As always, thanks Sarah!
Thanks, Sarah! These are great tips. Some I've heard before but they do bear repeating, and maybe moreso that I'm starting to explore gouache, coming from watercolour for many a year. I'm still struggling at just working with the medium. Getting the right consistency of paint is still difficult for me, but it really means that I need to practice mixing paint and water more, and applying it to see how it works.
Beautiful tutorial. I have to mention how much I am enjoying your Patreon! So many perks; the paint alongs, photo reference collections and prints! Anyone who loves this Channel would enjoy more Sarah instruction and footage!
Love this! So glad I found you last week! Now…to get some gouache paints. Real art stores are like dinosaur bones- they’re around, but not necessarily where you live. ❤️
Amazing result Sarah and enjoyed the technique used which created a brilliant painting, greatly appreciate you explaining clearly how you achieve such detail colours and depth. Thanks for sharing your inspirational talent stay safe 🙏
Field across from me has sheep & funny, I showed hubby my painting he thought they were chickens 😂 I need to rewatch & practice sheep more apparently. Just joined your patreon, can’t wait to start paint-alongs, then maybe my sheep won’t look like chickens 😂
I really need to have more brushstrokes showing like this, it's such a pretty technique! unfortunately I have this habit of always over blending everything ❤
Off topic but I always admire how clean your brushes look and the hairs stay in place. Do you (or anyone else) have tips on how to prevent brushes from getting frayed? No matter how careful I am with the way I use them, after using them a few times, round brushes lose the pointy tips and flat brushes aren't very flat.
Entirely unrelated to this video, but I love the prints you sell on your website. My partner has given me some for anniversaries before. The envelope they come is has your studio stamp on it though. I get why that's a great idea for you to do, but for me it's also spoiled the surprise whenever I get a print, because I can tell by the envelope what I'll get. Maybe there's the possibility to add a 'gift option' at the checkout, which only means that your studio stamp won't be on the envelope, so that my partner can see how great his present is, instead of the postie :D I love your work though. It adorns my walls just as it should.
Maybe it would be fun to try with box 5. It took a smidge longer to arrive and I think our mail lady thinks I am crazy when they get here. Oh well, it’s fun for me. With the heat of summer we need some snow☺️👀☀️☁️
Hi Sarah! I’m looking to become a patreon member. Do you still do print pals? I noticed that the tier was dated 2023. Also, if you do, do you mail prints to the US?
Bonjour et merci beaucoup, très intéressant et joli travail😊🙏🏻👏. Je crois que si l’on superpose la gouache, ça peut craquer, se fissurer. Quel est votre avis , et quel conseil donnez-vous ? Merci. Bon dimanche 😀, Christiane.

Ah good idea! I will look into that
Painterly style appeals to me the most....are there any of this paint style on your Patreon page?
Sheep are cool ! 🐑 I search to paint some animals ( i'm trying haha). Thank you Sarah for sharing. ❇🏞
Do you use acrylic or water based gouache? You are very inspiring! Always love your work.
Traditional gouache. I have some acrylic gouache to test it out, or for very specific uses. But I LOVE traditional gouache.
