'Diana: The Musical' is a new production, and was filmed onstage for Netflix since its Broadway run was delayed. Despite the truly horrible reviews it received, there's quite a lot to be said for this at-times puzzling, at-times unintentionally hilarious show!

At least they remembered not to call the woman 'princes'.. they usually never do. It's such an insult so her memory, all this 'song & dance' (literally in this case) made for entertainment. And it's never the important things that're 'dramatised' either, i.e. the tireless charity work.. especially regarding mine disposal/disarmament from both active & inactive war-zones around the world, making places safe again for the locals. And that's just one of the charities, there's a whole story in that alone but do 'they' care ?! No, 'they' don't. And it's damned insulting that the most impactful parts of her life are edited in the name of 'entertainment'.. & her charitable messages lost.

Anyone who thinks Queen Elizabeth is cold, unfeeling, or standoffish, needs to find a clip of her watching a horse race, specifically one where she owns one of the horses...you'll see a completely different lady than the stoic monarch you're used to - completely fun & adorable!

Brits doing American always good for a gruff or southern American accent. I’ve rarely hear a natural American accent from a Brit. It goes both ways. Brits absolutely do not do it better. But I know Americans mostly do poorly as well. Looking at you, Dick VanDyke in Mary Poppins. At least he’s lovable though. Haha

Firstly, woo-hoo for musical content on your channel, yay! :) Secondly, love the dress, it's very modern-day Dorothy. Finally, those woke lyrics are a slap in the face to Diana, who went out of her way to help all peoples of the world (to include white men, and anyone else, dying of AIDS in a time when no one else would literally touch them).

I don't think I have ever disagreed with you...until now. It's totally fine for ppl to like it, but I am not one of them.
I am a New York trained musical theater actor, but I'm not an MT snob.
The terrible reviews are well earned. It's trite and unimaginative. It opens with a fizzle and just continues to die. The lyrics sound like my 4th grade nephew wrote them. I watched it with my sister in law and she was literally finishing the lyrics before they were even sung. It became a game for her.
None of the music is hummable. It's 90+% exposition. They paid zero attention to "show don't tell", b/c all it does is "tell" and directly to the audience, there is no 4th wall throughout most of the show.
There are a couple positives. The costume designer did a fabulous job! The quick changes, magic, seriously, how did they do those?!
Camilla is the only character worth mentioning. I actually was conflicted about her, but that's due to the actress' skill, not the material.
Because I'm not an MT snob, I'll admit I thoroughly enjoyed Bat Out of Hell, also a train wreck, but I couldn't stop watching, had so much fun, and was belting out any number of songs as I bebopped out of the theater, because we all know these songs.
I give Diana 2 stars, and those were earned for the costumes and Camilla.

I HATED Phantom of the Opera so much that I almost missed out on the magnificent play! It was such a confusing movie, didn't understand anyone singing. I cannot describe how much I LOATHE that film. And I like musicals even though I was pretty young at the time, early teens. Sweeney Todd being my favorite as I was an edgy teen and thought the movie was hilarious. But the movie truly butchered the play. The singing is good, and the acting alright. It was just so confusing as to what was going on. And this was my first introduction into it.

I understand that there are some lines in certain songs that are a little cringy, but what musical doesn’t have some less then perfect moments? The costumes deserve the tony award for best costuming this year. Hands down. The set is perfect. The cast is amazing. Like the whole cast from Diana to the ensemble are all giving 150%. It’s just great. I really don’t see much to complain about and it closing so quickly on broadway is a tragedy

The issue with touching Diana as a topic is that there are different people who have different points of view of her, many adored her and there are times when they are very protective of her image. And as time goes, more people have been more open to accepting Diana was a human with her own flaws that could have contributed to the break down of her marriage. It's likely no matter how she is portrayed people are not going to like the reenactment as it is not gong to match up with their version of Diana.
For an example, William has expressed his issues that Netflix' The Crown plans to have a whole episode dedicated to Diana's controversy Panorama interview, not wanting that to pop back up. I can understand his point of view of this, when that interview was released, Diana managed to have stepped on a lot of toes while targeting Charles, even William was pissed at her for a while from what was said. The issue, as someone who has studied the film industry, is that that interview is what was the pivoting role in Diana's destiny, from the role of future Queen to humanitarian. Before that interview, it was understood that the Queen wished that both Charles and Diana could find a way to cooperate and stabilize their marriage, but it was that interview the revealed the Queen knew there was nothing the couple could do to save their marriage and told them to divorce. That interview had huge consequences for Diana, it's difficult to take that part of her life and just continue to explain her life, that interview was the straw that broke the camel's back. And it is interesting with the investigation current brought up in the last year or so of the controversy that Diana was given false documents and information that pushed her to do the interview while already having trust issues in the first place.
Perhaps this musical could be appreciated with more time, however, I think there's too many people who held her close to have an open mind to be entertained by her story. Appreciated your review on this, it did make want to watch it, the issue is that I currently have lost a lot of respect to Netflix and haven't bothered to watch there since they went woke. Waiting to kick the Harkles out, then I'll go back.

I remember Princess Diana and became sickened by the Paparazzi that played a role in her death (car accident injuries can be fixed--it's a matter of time). In life, she set out to different Asian countries with landmine problems and coordinated charity to procure equipment for their removal.
It taught me that a lofty post should teach and inspire others at the very least, or provide more value than mere cash value.
I thought Cats would be the end-all-say-all for polarizing theater. Nope. It was the film adaptation of Cats that did the trick. This one is tame. It's a marvel from its time.
By the way, Daisy, if you're versed in theater this much, you should do bi-daily content on it alongside (or even instead of) incendiary, politicized drivel that only inspires resentment. Any hint on how to perform and express will go much farther than ten thousand societal complaints.

As far as the film version of the musical Les Miserables? I liked the portrayal of "I Dreamed a Dream". The woman is at one of the lowest points a human can get. Too many productions (including Broadway) have the actress being grandiose. Uhm. No. She should be in sackcloth and ashes and on the verge of breaking. Which is how the movie framed it.
