    Step 1 --
    Recognize that
    your happiness
    is YOUR job
    NOT anyone else's
    and if you're failing
    to find happiness
    that's YOUR failure

I think that the biggest thing that people confuse is living a life of happiness vs a life of pleasure. Happiness is steady medium highs, medium lows. Pleasure you always need more and high highs, pit of lows

A lot of the things you listed I already do and work very well for me, but I feel compelled to push back a teensy bit on the food thing.
I've learned that the smell alone of an orange (nevermind eating it) can perk up my mood considerably even on a tough day. Plus, if it's a tiny snack orange it's not a whole lot of calories. Also, it provides a little vitamin C boost, what other treat does that?? Citrus advocacy aside, I'm loving the low-key content Daisy, be well 💛

I personally found a good way to get rid of unhappyness and to reset is taking a hot bath. Once you get used to the temperature in the bath you can add more hot water to increase to temperature little by little until you feel it's at an extreme but tolerable level. This puts your body under a stress more than what it's worrying about and your body forgets about your worry to deal with the immediate threat of being boiled alive.

After 67yrs, eventually found the best way to stay happy is to be happy with your own company. If you depend on other people to make yourself happy, they’ll let you down. I have reduced my friends over the years as people let me down. Be happy with yourself and only undertake things that make “YOU” happy. Be your own Zanadu.

Hmmm. I think 'Catholic guilt' was the give away as to why you cannot meditate. Listen to St. Therese of Liseux or The Life of St. Theresa of Avila. I am a convert. I am almost housebound, a serious depressive disorder for 30 years. But, praying (not meditating -crystals yoga etc). There is a Catholicism approached from the Saints, Saint Augustus, etc. I also study philosophy and am writing a doctorate - approach Catholicism from Plato (from where Christianity got a lot of its ideas). Do not approach Catholicism from a. bad experiences (the Church is made up of very faulty humans) or from the media. Approach it from listening to an audiobook of Story of a Soul St. Theresa of Avila - I am as happy as a pig in muck. 3 rosaries a day keeps the doctor away. I tried years of therapy - just made me more miserable.

My own recipe for happiness is this, first chose to be happy, second practice a cheerful demeanor, third help others in any way possible and fourth let go of all negative emotions that tend to accumulate. If we chose to think about what is wrong then we become depressed. By thinking about the things that are right our mood follows our thoughts.

Right now I've been playing Christmas music while I clean and watching holiday movies while I wrap gifts to keep me in a holly jolly mood.
In general prayer, journaling, exercise, meditation, and some form of self care like a petticure or a hair treatment keeps me going. I also follow a daily planner to prevent future frustration.
Also I make an effort to not compain, mind my own business and not use other ppl as a yardstick.

Great tips. Indulge sparingly. Moderation is key. Live you life but don’t go crazy.
    My tips:
    1. Limit social media, particularly political content
    2. Find a hobby to unwind from your day - from woodworking to enjoying nature to reading
    3. Do at least a small act of kindness - from bringing in a treat to work to helping a neighbor
    4. Do something productive, especially when you are down - from cleaning a room to decorating to unloading the dishwasher
    5. Get out of your house for at least a few minutes a day. Being a shut in can really affect your mood.
    6. Avoid too much negativity. Discuss important issues and then stop for a bit.
    7. Break tasks into smaller more manageable ones - from cleaning individual rooms to sending Christmas cards
    8. For friends and family, call them once in a while or speak to them in person instead of using some messaging app. Personally preferably physically interact with another human.
    9. Do things that make you happy.
    10. To an extent, fake it til you make it. Think more happy thoughts and you will be happier.

Someone needs to look seriously at this now. Nadine Dories has been blocked off the app for politicians in Westminster. I have met Anna Soubry (I like her) and don't agree with a single thing that she says but that doesn't mean she should be cancelled. The entire point of politics is the discourse/obloquy/colloquy Anna never got cancelled. So why is Nadine finding herself in this position? What is happening here? We need eyes on this. This is getting stupid now.

These were all good advice for balance but we really shouldn't believe that Happiness is the norm. When we look at happiness and believe this is the state we must be all the time we can get into the "Happiness trap" and think just because we feel anything else we are in an abnormal state. Many people state "I just want to be happy" I ask "What specifically do you want to be happy with?" is it financial, relationship, health, social, spiritual? there are many different aspects to our lives and they all have a subjective level of satisfaction we feel about them. One of the biggest things I recommend is trying to rewrite your self narrative and work on your self belief. Even when you're feeling sad, angry, tired of whatever, when your self image is a resemble positive one say like "I'm a good person however I'm just a normal human being and can improve" we can be a bit more real with ourselves and a bit more caring and have a less harsh inner voice.

I quit drinking energy drinks and soda for the most part about 2 months ago, and started working out, I'll still drink a soda every once in a while when I'm eating only, I'm not super religious about it or anything. I was in a rough patch in life, the girl I want to be with banished me to the friend zone and everything just wasn't going my way, but I've lost some weight and I feel so much better, I'm more confident and energetic. And the exterior things in my life like the girl still haven't gotten any better but my state of mind is much better, it's amazing how much taking a little control of your health can turn things around. Life still isn't a fairy tale with sunshine and bunny rabbits everywhere, but the stuff that sucks doesn't bum me out as much as it used to.

Getting off social media and less screen time will also increase the time you have during the day to get some exercise or work around the house done. So win win. Combine walks and meditation if you can. Leave your phone on silent and have a walk by the seaside or on a little mountain or a forest. Listen to the sounds around you. I can sit by the ocean and just listen to the waves for ages, watch the birds fly by, seals and otters play in the water, fishingboats passing by.
I also have to take a few pics and post them in Daisy's Discord though. Also helps me feel a little less sad cause i can spread the beauty of this world to other people.

Happiness is wanting what you have, not having what you want. An attitude of gratitude will lead to true inner happiness. Some of the most unhappy people complain about the rain and refuse to see that it washes away dirt, it helps the flowers to grow, the crops to grow, lakes to fill (drinking water, boating, fishing, etc.). It really isn't too difficult to find a positive in most situations.

I'm a fellow millenial. For the context, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder (by a specialists ofc, not self-diagnosis bs). I share my thoughts as the video goes.
Meditation never worked for me, tbh, because it's simply too loud in my head (I'm overthinking a lot, can't help it, I have some techniques, but they sometimes don't work). Even if it's well intentioned - like you've said - I just roll my eyes at such advice. Everyone says 'meditate' but noone says how to do it. Should I just sit there and count my breaths? Or think about positive stuff? Ugh.
Smiling, despite feeling crappy, was my reality in retail. It lost it's effect pretty quickly.
As for early signs...yeah I can feel them. I usually go out for a smoke, or close myself in a bathroom. Rarely helps, but it's better than nothing.
Exercise...ugh. I hate exercising. It puts me in a worse mood, no joke.
Sleeping enough is difficult for me, since I have perpetual nightmares. My mind is my worst enemy. Last time I slept well was when I had a concussion and they induced medical coma for a day.
Not eating a bad food already. Running on protein shakes for a week now to have a calorie deficit and feel full. I'm overweight (I look extra-thicc, no joke, but I'm way over my healthy weight limit + I cant wear what I like), I want to lose some of it. It took me over 10 years to do something about it. We'll see how it will go, cause it's too early to see if it works.
Being nice to people...well I'm always to my boyfriend. I pay him compliments everyday. Like smiling, it lost it's initial charm, but at least i feel at ease he is recognized. God knows how badly men are treated in the society.
Productivity - drawing, drawing, writing, writing, or even doing an achievement in a game makes me feel better a bit. I'm planning to make my own YT channel to push more dopamine, cause I've been doing things I've mentioned for years and it doesn't have that bliss effect as it did.
Get off social media - already deleted twitter half a year ago, never had facebook, nor anything simillar. I actually never experienced growing up with social media, so yeah.
Books - I used to be a bookworm...if I wasn't so picky with it now! God damn me...the book has to be in fantasy category, lots of magic, the main character should be reliable to me at some degree, the magic system should be believable, some homo-erotica would be nice...at this point I'm writing my own novels to fantasize about. Harry Potter was nice, but had too much loopholes when I re-read it. I've had some niche series in my early teens and adulthood, yes, but right now I'm sooo...ugh...I always come out annoyed from the bookstore when I'm trying to pick up a book.
Forgive people - I can't. I just can't. Even if I don't think about it everyday, there are people I will never forgive and forget. I'm waiting for the perfect moment to lash back at them. I just can't let it go, and my therapists were trying for years. Is it worth it? Not really. Will it give me a satisfaction? Definitely.
Well, those are my thoughts. It's not a jab at you, Daisy, I just wanted to share how they worked for me over the years. Your advice is great, not gonna lie - those are maybe it's out of my reach.
Venting, actually, releases some pressure for me. So here I am, venting xD
I had also punched a guy at a gay club I'm going to sometimes, cause he couldn't understand the word "no" and became too touchy with me. This put up me in a good mood for a week.

  • @DerekPower

Meditation consists of two ingredients: concentration and mindfulness. Concentration is just focusing on the task such as timed breathing, visualisation, a phrase/single prayer/mantra. Mindfulness is simply an awareness of everything else that isn’t what you are concentrating on. That’s the key to all meditation practices =]
A quick and dirty “mental reset” : breathe in through the left nostril, then out through the right, then breathe in through the right nostril, and out through the left. Do that cycle four times.

Then have a nice, big glass of water, brush your toothy-pegs, get into your snuggliest fur coat and hop in to bed like a good drunk bear should! Sweet dreams! 😄

The proper way to maditate is:
    - listen binaural music
    - feel everything that comes up during meditation

I found that the older I get the more I realise that just being physically healthy is and was the most important thing to know and knew I had.
It's incredible how much you don't appreciate health until it's taken away and then the other issues become so much more lessened in the grand scheme of it all.
