Desperate Housewives is one of the greatest television shows ever produced. Not just another B-grade dramedy; it's the perfect balance of rom com, drama, and pantomime. Incredibly, there is a moral philosophy that runs through the show, specifically in terms of the relationships presented. One relationship in particular caught my fascination while binge watching all eight seasons. Gosh, I learnt a lot...

On a side note TV was just better back then. Travel channel was about travel, Animal Channel was about animals and same with History and Discovery. Late 90s and early 2000s was the last era I had much optimistic hope for the future.

"Don't emasculate your husband" - That seems like it should be fairly obvious. These should all be pretty obvious to someone who isn't self-absorbed and has a modicum of compassion and empathy. (I'm talking about he characters, not you.)

But . . . but . . . but Lorena Bobbitt emasculated her husband and everything worked out okay. Well, maybe not quite 100% okay but close enough. I will concede that John Bobbitt got the short end of the stick, as things worked out; but Lorena lived happily ever after . . . sort of. Best of all, the public around the world leaned the truth of the saying 'Heaven knows no rage like love to hatred turned; nor Hell a fury like a woman scorned.'

I think a lot of women still do this when they are just trying to be helpful and don't realize that's what they are doing. An example I read in "for women only" is when a wife says to her husband "you aren't a handy man type, we should call a professional to fix that." You aren't giving him a chance he might want at fixing it and you basically tell him you have no confidence he can figure it out when he at least wants to try. We just don't want them wasting the time and trying to be practical but it might translate to "we don't think you are a good provider" possibly. It just goes into it more and gives some practical examples I think.

Honestly Bree, Susan, and Gabby were not the kinds of friends the Scavos needed. They needed couple-with-kids friends from the time the twins were born. Friends to swap childcare so you can maintain your marriage and parent together (so your twins don't become little brats). I'm so grateful for the friends who have helped us and raised their kids alongside ours.

    Well done Daisy!
I used to love desperate House Wives!
These 5 things are definitely important as someone who’s has been married and divorced. Competition isn’t always about income or being a good parent, sometimes it is about who is the most tired or sick or who had the worst day at work!
Resentment is the {emotion} that kills relationships and it builds for so many reasons but constant competition whether it is who’s the best or who’s the worst definitely leads to resentment. If you start to feel resentment figure out why and deal with it straight away, because that is what leads to punishing the other person, one upping the other person and absolutely nothing good comes from feeling resentment toward your partner.

I loved Desperate Housewives and re-watched the series myself recently.
The one difference between my experience as a viewer recently and watching DH for the first time in 2005 was how it's first billed star played it's most unlikeable character, Susan Mayer.
Similar to how by re-watching Sex and the City years after it ended I became more conscious of Carrie's many flaws, I became more conscious of Susan's flaws. I don't want to write an essay, but one of the better characters, Edie Britt, summarised why Susan was so contemptible in this exchange in S2 E22:
Edie: "I'm sure you'll turn on the waterworks and the whole neighborhood will come running. They always do."
    Susan: "That's not true."
Edie: "Sure it is. You never miss an opportunity to play the victim. And you think that because everyone comes running to your rescue, it means that you're loved. Well, it doesn't. It just means that you're helpless."

Good review on desperate housewives. Hit on quite a few of the themes of the show. One I found that I liked was the central theme of the show was love and forgiveness across the board with all relationships in the show. No matter what happened to any of these characters, they got mad, angry, upset but they moved on and forgave each other in the end and never stopped loving each other.

From Judy in Australia 🇦🇺. Didn’t watch Desperate Housewives. Was too busy living my own life and the stickability of my own marriage. We’ve been together 50 years in December next year. Here’s my tips. 1. Before marriage find someone who is a friend, has similar attitudes to money, children, religion, love, and whatever core beliefs (the vital to you ones) you hold. 2. Take them for a day at the beach - you’re finding out what’s artificial/real and their attitude when tired and grumpy. 3. After marriage, don’t take too long to have children. You’ll never have enough money, and what’s more important is having the love time and energy for them. I recommend at least 2 fairly close together. There’s a reason why two and approx 2 years apart works well. 4. When you argue, always recall why you married in the first place. Never go home to mother and spill the beans on why you’re arguing to your family. You might get it off your chest, but you’ll move on and your family don’t cause you never tell them it’s resolved. 5. From time to time, deliberately recall your wedding day and the positive feelings you had on that day. 6. Make time for each other regularly and often. Anniversaries are a great time to relive the day with photos videos and reminiscing discussions.
Finally, congratulations Daisy! May you have as long and happy a marriage as I have and may God bless you as much as he has us!

You make me feel nostalgic..my eldest daughter was born in ‘91
And is 29., she (and I) were addicted to it.. she also was addicted also to OC and the Kardashians.. we only had one TV so I watched what she watched.. I gritted my teeth at the last 2 I’ve mentioned but I really liked Desperate Housewives. But lost interest about Series 6. I thought they can’t possibly twist the plot anymore.,. But they did ???😂
But my daughter hung in ‘til
the end! She didn’t learn lesson 2.. she’s an absolute control
    Freak!
I think yr. “life lessons” of the show are excellent.. you obviously think about things.. a lot.., I was never sure I wanted children (for many reasons one of which was marrying v late in life coz I had a job in the Diplomatic Corp and was always on overseas postings .. not good for a relationship ) however decided to
Have a child around 40, had my daughter at 41 and my son at nearly 43.,, cld not have any more after that., I did miscarry with twins at 3 months.
I don’t have regrets in life ., no point., but having said that my only regret is I didn’t stop
traveling/working earlier coz I wldve have had at least four.
Children aren’t hard work, they are a joy., I went to full time university when I was 45 (with 2 young kids plus did a part time job at a newspaper at night proofreading) and trained as a high school teacher ..
So my advice., not that you
Need any., is have a child when you deem is right time., and try it., you may just like it or you may not., but children/family are forever.,.. careers can be changed. It’s an individual choice.

I was more into sci fi or horror stuff and later Dexter. 😂

The way I would put your statement about kids is this: Don't have too many kids, for you. There are people who can handle 5-6 kids (I know people who have that, hell I had two sisters who were friends in high school and their parents had 7 kids total, 4 biologically and three were adopted) but that isn't for everyone. So make sure you're having the number of kids that you can handle mentally and emotionally. Personally, I think I could do three and be alright, but four or five would probably be too many.

Park this here for now... Headington Hill Hall. Which used to be owned by Robert Maxwell. I never realised that Gislaine was his daughter until 3 hours ago. I worked near there. And now all of this (including things which people might think are not connected). What is going on here? . I've given you the name of the Hall : start there.

I never watched it. But I did know some of what happened from the culture at large. The only thing I remember is that Eva Longoria was in it.

Relationships where the female partner earns more seldom work. Not because men are "emasculated" or feel inferior, but because women lose respect for men who are less successful than them. It's an almost inevitable biological reaction. Sad but true.

My mum had ten kids and three miscarriages two military careers and owned a house 🏡 worth two million dollars on 23 acreage with 16 horses. It was insane!!!
