As a former guitar player, I have never understood how anyone can play a fretless instrument. You have to memorize where to place your fingers on the "fret board" to hit the right note. With that in mind, to watch these best-in-class players simply fly over the board with their left hand, perfectly hitting the locations with blazing speed, staggers my old mind. The TwoSetViolin guys have made me appreciate the subtle nuances of playing this magnificent instrument. Thanks, gents!

As an Asian, I can confirm that this is 100% true. When I was 2 they said I was a genius because I could have a semi-sensible conversation and answer simple questions. Then I was 11 and I passed grade 8 on violin. Now I'm in secondary school ( i think that's grade 8?) and I'm failing Geography and History, and I think my mom has lost all faith in me, that look of disappointment when she saw my C, and the beating that came afterwards was unforgettable ;)
@@yukichan177 but most people who're not asian often think that Asia only consist of Japan, China, Korea etc famous asian countries. And me, I'm malaysian (specifically:Malaysia Chinese) and also asian as well, and I'm an expert of lazy.
Me too, but watching Twoset I'm trying to educate myself at least in the theory (i don't play the violin but i would like to try, just to ear how bad can i be)
One time I showed my dad the video that TwoSet watched in this, and I was mesmerized by how GODLY the girl played, meanwhile my dad was just: "Will you ever reach that level?" "She's 12?!" "That's why you gotta practice more"
I’ve played from age 5 to age 19 very regularly and my BIGGEST weakness was sight reading. I’m 29 now and picked my violin back up and I still have so much trouble. SO much respect for you guys that can sight read to this level. AMAZING.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who is more amazed by their sight reading than anything else right? I’m not saying that I wasn’t amazed by the girl though, she was amazing too.
I was like, "Bro, the fact they sound somewhat decent while sight-reading this is amazing. The girl provably practiced months for these pieces while they didn't even have a second.
What I thought too, even though i don't really play violin. Im quite sure with just some time and practice they too can play the piece almost to perfection.
I share your pain...nothing so frustrating as to be invested in an instrument for DECADES and have reasonable skill and confidence...and then some ZYGOTE with its mother's milk barely out of it appears out of nowhere and plays rings around you...
While I play the piano, that feeling hits me more with art. Been doing art for two decades now and when I feel like I'm improving and getting somewhere and building confidence...some zygote comes along and draws rings around me. Goodbye, self-confidence.
*Your stares into the camera just says it all.* 🤣 that girl’s skill is insane, those dynamics and bow control. 🤣 “It’s sad that I tried.” It’s alright I think this girl is possessed by some sort of violin spirit god.
I dont know if anyone realises how hard this music is. Its hours and hours of practice to perfect this. Well done guys, your sight reading is pretty good. You inspire me to play again and not just teach beginners.
considering they can just look at the music and nearly play it. Just imagine if they practiced that piece as much as the performers did. I'm sure they would play it just fine.
@@joematties7557 Add onto the impromptu performance with two things: (1) They listened in advance to the young girl and (2) they have seen the video and sheet music before, and probably played a few bars. They didn't show their first attempt.
Andy Malik in their other videos, there are some pieces they haven’t learned yet because they considered those pieces really hard to read. Their first attempts at those are really impressive.
@@yn-xu8gl While I don't deny these bois are impressive; how can you prove those are their first attempt? They can say whatever they want in front of the camera. For example, I can say that I'm a professional piano player (untrue) and I'm going to blindly sight-read some classical pieces. I then create a list of like, 10 pieces that I have thoroughly practiced in my life (true). I know them by heart, practiced and performed them at venues, and don't need the sheet music play it. I then randomly pull a song, I make some reaction to the initial sheet music, "What in the world?! A bass clef?! Four Flats?!" and then I pretend to sight-read. Mess up / go slow the first time, but my second time is somehow *very* impressive! I'm NOT saying that's how Brett and Eddy are doing it -- that is NOT what I'm saying. I am saying that we simply DONT KNOW how they're doing it. There is no proof that they are telling the truth versus lying. Of course, these two are fantastic, that's why I watch them. They've practiced for a very long time and they keep practicing. I have no quarrels with them creating fake reactions because I love Eddy's laugh and smile while Brett is hilarious, whether the reactions are fake at all.
I appreciated her perfectly curved bow hand throughout the entire performance, I saw it falter for a split second but it was 1,000 times better than some people in my orchestra who push their pinkies INTO the bow.
Her mother said she only practices one note for hours if she doesn't like one note on the violin. And she wanted to keep practicing the violin without resting, but she was forced by her mother to take a break from time to time.
i don't know why people would not be surprised by children obsessed with video games and spend hours everyday on computer, but would doubt children obsessed with musical instruments.
It’s just like anything else, if you get passionate about something (video games, music, arts sports, etc) you would (naturally) want to get better with it, so I don’t see why some people won’t practise/play obsessively, it’s just the same with playing a game you like or playing the sport you like.
Definitely. If you gave me a page of relatively easy notes to read, then I would still take a frickin hour to even comprehend it. And I’ve been singing for 5 YEARS
@@Blackhart-7 If we are going to be perfectly honest, there's definitely a wonderkid of 3 and a half years old who perfected 7 instruments and wrote 4 books on music theory.
I love how no one is talkin bout the pianist, like *she has to keep up with THAT* Edit: Just saying, y’all needa chill this was technically a joke comment, yes the fast part might be easy, to someone who is experienced etc, but in this case if the pianist messed up it could potentially mess up the performance since this is a piece that is needed to be synced up with, correct me if I am wrong people, just keep it all clean and not harmful or violent in anyway.
Gaming Princess Luna Well yes because both is pretty much needed to have a fully complete “show” or really just accompany each other, i was just saying what I have said bc the violin playing is again quiet hard to play 😂👌
For this particular instance the piano is the accompanying piece. Still very impressive though, bc if she messed up it can throw off the violinists entire tempo.

This is the first video that I tracked down after watching the TwoSetViolin video. It put me on a path to discover my love of the violin. I have many favorites now but SoHyun Ko will always be my first favorite. My violin was delivered today. Two years of watching violin videos has infected me with a need to try and learn this fantastic instrument. It's hard to believe that these two guys have changed my life so much. Tomorrow I will book my first lessons and I can't wait. I set up my violin and tuned it so I could give it a try. I am 59 years old and I'm as excited as a little kid. The rosin that came with my bow has a mosquito in it like the amber in Jurassic park. Fortunately I had bought some better rosin so I will keep the other clear as a conversation piece. Thanks Brett and Eddy.

What a great violinist! She seems to really love what she is doing. Plus, I like the piano player very much, too! She accompanies the violin player very carefully, she attentively listens to and watches the soloist. Amazing, both of them!!!
Dude, the reason Asians are so successful is that they have one of the best work ethics and passions in their craft, they aren’t automatically talented or smart as shit, they work for it. I could finally play Jason Becker’s Altitudes after 6 long months, but that’s because I worked my ass off for it, not because I’m some super talented genius at birth.
facts. that's why the asian meme began how there's always an asian better than you but as a filipino myself, mad respect to anyone who puts all their effort into their passions
I want to see these guys post a video of them playing a song like this when they've actually practiced it and know the piece. Cuz if they can play it that good when sight reading, they could probably play it just as good as the girl.
I'm not a violinist, I'm a guitarist, but I know that look on their faces very well. I've had that look before. The look you get when you look at a child prodigy on your instrument, and for a moment you're like, "well, time to pack up, looks like it's time for me to quit music."
There's a video of some girl about 13 who learned guitar through Rocksmith over the course of a few years. By the end, she's busting out some perfect Iron Maiden solos. I quit guitar, again, that day.
I'm not sure if people realize how difficult it is what the TwoSet guys are doing here in sight-reading such a difficult piece and getting this rough approximation this close in their first attempts
I appreciate that but they watch the sheet which tells you what to play and at their level of playing the violin its pretty easy, dont expect it to sound exactly the same.
Interviewer : How old are you? The girl : I’m 12! Interviewer : how many years of practice??? The girl : *20 years* Interviewer : *HOW!!* The girl : I practiced 50 hours a day.
Gents, I feel your pain. Some people are preternaturally gifted, and while practice helps the rest of us, in their hands it becomes divine. But rather than lose hope, I think we should rejoice that such talent exists, and that we live in a world (despite its many problems) that allows such talented people to reach their full potential. For many years I wanted to be the human equivalent of an eagle, or a wolf, or something equally majestic. Instead, I am something like an owl or a turtle. And I have gradually come to accept that all I should be doing is being the best “me”’that I can be.
@@kit76149 nope, not a blank slate. There are people who can learn faster and do things better than others. Now that doesn't mean that geniuses don't need practicing; they do. But to say that we are a blank slate in all aspects of human endeavor is just not true, and not that useful either.

Hey Brett and Eddie! You guys are absolutely incredible violinists! I was blown away when I started watching your channel and realized the journey violinists go through to perfect their skills. It's so humbling and inspiring at the same time.🎶 I used to play the clarinet when I was younger. I started at 5 years old and kept playing through university. But unfortunately, life had other plans for me. My clarinet got stolen, and I couldn't afford to buy a new one. My family depended on me financially, so I had to prioritize our basic needs over getting another instrument. 🎶 Over time, my life took a different path. Seeing your determination and talent, it's really amazing. You guys still have so much time to make your dreams come true. 🎶 And your friendship alone is really precious to witness. It brings me so much joy. You have no reason to feel down about your abilities because you two are marvelous violinists. I love how you both play with your own unique style. Sure, all the little Ling Lings are talented too, but there's something special about you two. There's only one Brett and one Eddie, and I wouldn't trade you for an entire army of them. 🎶 You guys are the stars I want to see and listen to. I would even stand out in the rain to buy tickets for one of your concerts, and I'm 58 years old! I wouldn't do that for any of the Ling Lings you've featured on your channel.
