That's my absolute favorite version of this piece. There's something fierce and incredibly mature in her playing that makes me want to listen to it over and over again.
@Kyle Billie I hardly believe this is the result of only self motivation, this level of mastery takes a lot more than motivation.. her IQ is probably high, my bet is her parents spent a fortune on her because she had been playing since she was a very young child, there’s a video of her playing freaking Mozart at only 8 years old. I was blown away by her size, she played it like Mozart himself was her personal mentor 😂
@@Sara-tr2gh In Korea, most musical prodigies are found and raised by government-sponcerd program or by famous instructors at a very young age so if a kid is really good the parents don't need to spend a fortune.
Absolutely, it is indeed a remarkable performance. I've also recently discovered a lesser-known recording by a Polish violinist who also interprets this piece exceptionally well. I find both of these performances to be the best I've heard and often revisit them. I think you might find this interesting: th-cam.com/video/7Yf6Me5Jy5U/w-d-xo.html.
The piano sheet is much easier for this piece than the violin sheet, so it is only logical and even fair that the violin gets far more recognision as the violin sheet is more difficult by a gigantic margin. With that being said, yes the pianist does a great work and deserves praise. Both were fantastic.
Its not the fact we forgot, but we truly don't need to care. Yes, the pianist was good, but of course she was. She is an adult with far more years of practice and even an easier sheet to play. The violinist, however, is quite young with not so many years of experience. That is why the pianist doesn't get as much recognition. It wasn't about the pianists show but the violinists. If the pianist had their own show instead, then indeed they would get more recognition.
Jaiden Morse The point of me mentioning the Pianist was because no ones giving her props! Obviously the videos about the young girl! No ones arguing her skill and performance! I just think the pianist deserves a tip of the hat as well! She’s not your average church pianist! shes very skillful herself!
Indeed. Can't believe nobody here even mentions the pianist. Obviously Ko is in the spotlight but the pianist was also superb. Big props to both of them!
Must say that the accompanist is unbelievable good! She's not playing only her own part, but she truly accompanies the girl. The way she listens to the girl's violin is amazing and their interaction is incredible! And of course their technique is imposing. It's really enjoyble to listen this great work!
Elisa Khud, In reading these comments it seems most of these viewers have very little exposure to live classical music experiences/performances (probably even on TH-cam). I've been enjoying classical music on TH-cam for years. My mother was a professional performer with harp and voice and toured Europe in the 1950's with the professional All-America Chorus as a featured soloist (including a performance for the Queen of England). She was an honors graduate in choral conducting and piano at Northwestern University. Her daughter/my sister won a full tuition scholarship to the Eastman school of Music, was the harp faculty at the University of Denver, first call union harpist and played with the Denver Symphony. Her husband earned his master's and doctorate degrees on cello at Northwestern University and recently retired after 34yrs from the Denver Symphony and 25yrs with the Central City Opera Orchestra. I sang in the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Chorus for 20+yrs including three different sold-out performances in Carnegie Hall. We were invited to augment the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus performing on two different (14,000 attendees in the amphitheater and on the 36 acre grounds) occasions for the season opener at Ravinia (the summer home of the Chicago Symphony) (look it up). I had a successful clarinet/saxophone studio for forty years. My point being, I've never run across this level of reaction/commentary to a standard classical music situation before. This is not something rare or uncommon to expect in the musical world of performance. There's no dispute that she is a gifted accomplished musician accompanist, but, as with soloists, there are fortunately many inspirational/moving performances to be experienced and savored. I'm just surprised that so many people haven't apparently heard this level of "tear" producing artistry. I hope you are lucky enough to hear/experience many more. Thanks for letting me "spout" off.

SoHyun Ko is the South Korea national treasure. God sent this angel to Korea to ease the pain of the divided country. I hope one day the country will unite.
unlikely that's gonna happens anytime soon. We saw in germany what happens when two countries of inequal wealth reunite. To this day east germany has not recovered, people are leaving and far right extremism is rising. Korea is nothing but a more extreme example of this. Reuniting Korea in its current state would see a ton of north koreans flood to the south for its better opportunities and infrastructure. Korea can only really be reunited once North Korea has caught up in development to South Korea (and ideological conflicts between the two have been overcome). Will that ever happen? Possibly, but not anytime soon. Probably not within our lifetimes.
Everybody has been praising SoHyun, naturally. Me too. However, I would like to point out the wonderful job by Allison Freeman, accompanying this energetic, vibrant performance by SoHyun.

Not only because of her incredible playing this tune but there is another reason why I occasionally watch this clip. With my heart fulling when I see the little girl smiling (similar to the Mona Lisa feeling) as she successfully completes the moderato with a pizzicato at 01:48. I'm five times older than her. With this smile, I realize the true meaning of life. Today, once again, I'm taking a philosophy class from a little (but full of confidence as far as performing) girl.
You're absolutely right! It's the Mona Lisa feel that her smile conveyed! That's why it's so endearing. I couldn't quite place it until I read your comment. And now it's so obvious !
Of course not. I've downloaded all of her performances and created a folder to play in my smartphone, connected to an amplifier in my car. The most amazing part about it is how she's doing this because she LOVES playing it since she was very little, she's passionate about it and you can see it in the way she plays. she wasn't forced by her parents to take Violin lesson like most of our Asian parents does lol
7:44 to 7:56, I picked up something there. Notice that when she does this phrase initially, you can (if you’re a violinist/performed solo) pick up on how she failed to gliss up and merely shifted, which didn’t sound the way I assume she wanted it to; but look at when she does said phrase again. She *glisses up* rather than shifting up. After she does that phrase the way she wanted it to, you can see her smile. Crazy how I picked that up. :0

It must be the 1000th time I listen to this interpretation and I just still can't figure out how good it is. No one, at least to my knowledge, is able to make this piece sound that good except her. This a real masterpiece, played by a real master. Perfect combo. Godlike even.
In no universe is this better than the Heifetz version. Obviously, for her age, this is insanely good, but it doesn’t compare to Heifetz, or any of the masters.
At 6:50, it began sounding so painfully sad which moved me to tears. It is incredible how a 12-year-old can pour so much emotion into a classic piece. Bravo.

The fact that she not only plays this insanely difficult piece perfectly in tune, but also makes it look so easy and sound so utterly beautiful, sends shivers up and down my spine.
This piece perfectly represents the Hungarian soul, how through the ages we had so many sad moments in our history, but the people always tried to bursh off sadness and depression by jokes and joyful dance. The fast dancing song (czardas) is prefect choice and ending after the very slow sad theme.
@@tanyaamosava241 "Like his contemporaries, Sarasate misidentified Hungarian folk music with the "gypsy music" of the Romani people, and the themes in the piece are not of Romani origin, but were all actually adapted from Hungarian music pieces." That's what Wikipedia says.
@@tanyaamosava241 As it is on wiki, which was corrected because of me, when I found an article about the story of this piece, Sarasate was visiting Hungary, and usually foreigners know nothing about Gypsies, so they think if they play a song, then it is probably theirs (Sarasate also heard these melodies played by gypsy musician). Well in fact, many gypsies started to work as musician in 19th century (or even earlier), but because they were mostly playing (working) for Hungarian audience, obviously Hunagrians wanted to listen to their own traditional folk songs, in this way the Hungarian Gypsies had to learn and play these songs, otherwise how they would have made money in the bars and restaurants they were playing? So Sarasate went home thinking it was probably Gypsy music, however there can be an other reason of it, in that time the composers liked to use the name Gypsy, because then it sounded more exotic, it is clear in the case of Ravel: Tzigane, tzigane (or as we say cigány) is an other word for Gypsy, and this piece has nothing to do with the Gypsies either. From Wikipedia: ,,The name of the piece is derived from the generic European term for "gypsy" (in French: gitan, tsigane or tzigane rather than the Hungarian cigány) although it does not use any authentic Gypsy melodies."
I have now heard several other performances of this piece, including ones by Menhuin and Perlman. I keep coming back to this one, as the one I like best. I love to watch her facial expressions, as she plays. She is not just playing this piece, she is dominating it. She is showing the world how it should be played. At 12 years old! And at 16, she is even better, if that's possible.
It seems as if she was born to play a violin owing to " a real flair " that might be inherited from her parents!? I do hope she would be better at 16 thanks to the genuine flair she was born with & her brilliant teacher whoever that individual is. Have a fabulous day wherever you are!! And stay away & healthy amidst the dire plight precipitated by the COVID-19 & its variant such as the omicron virus running on a rampage around the world or pandemic.,,,,(12/24/22)
I think she really nailed the tempo of the last part, most of the other performances of other violinists or her others ones too, have a bit different tempo. When they play it faster, it starts to lose the feeling of the dance Czardas, as this part comes from that. for example 8:10 is a very typical part of it.
I'm never tired of watching this, I mean not just the music but the performance, how the girl is confident, she was nervous when introducing herself, her smile during the play, how fluently the bow moves!! So entertaining! She is a diamond. And many thanks to TwoSetViolin!!

Absolutely this. I've heard so many versions of this piece and I keep coming back to this. What a stunning interpretation that wrenches the heart. ❤
I think you might find this interesting: th-cam.com/video/7Yf6Me5Jy5U/w-d-xo.html.
is super good, is my second one after Master Itzhak...
The pianist was on point as well! Lets not forget about her!
Lol, i don't understand how she could stay in time with the violinist, that's really impressive
The piano sheet is much easier for this piece than the violin sheet, so it is only logical and even fair that the violin gets far more recognision as the violin sheet is more difficult by a gigantic margin. With that being said, yes the pianist does a great work and deserves praise. Both were fantastic.
@@jameswalker6864 yes, the piano is just accompaniment
Guys this kid is amazing but let’s appreciate how collaborative this pianist is she always looked over at Ko like this is true collaboration
her hands are so fast! if you look at it closely it might be an actual robot

Elisa Khud,
In reading these comments it seems most of these viewers have very little exposure to live classical music experiences/performances (probably even on TH-cam).

Thank you so much
unlikely that's gonna happens anytime soon.

This piece perfectly represents the Hungarian soul, how through the ages we had so many sad moments in our history, but the people always tried to bursh off sadness and depression by jokes and joyful dance. The fast dancing song (czardas) is prefect choice and ending after the very slow sad theme.
I realize that
If it represents Hungarian soul, why is it called "Gypsy Airs", and not "Hungarian Airs"?
@@tanyaamosava241 "Like his contemporaries, Sarasate misidentified Hungarian folk music with the "gypsy music" of the Romani people, and the themes in the piece are not of Romani origin, but were all actually adapted from Hungarian music pieces." That's what Wikipedia says.
@@jujube9871 Well said.

Without confidence I find playing anything isn't as good as when I'm confident. It probably had to do with mindset.
English isn't her native language. Music is.
I think she was not nervous. She is just pretty young and probably not fluent in english
I should start to count how many times I come back to listen to this again and again, I am definitely over 30 times.
I actually started doing that recently, and in the past few months I've listened to this recording 48 times :O
@@classicalviolinist2325 I discovered her 3 weeks ago and so far I listened to it 107 times😅😂
