    Great video. Same issue with an mk 4 2010, tdci 163 hp. Good thing you’ve added the wallet thing in the end.
    It seemed like an easy operation and i was already starting to question my ford dealer’s quote at 250 euros.

    This has just happened to me ( 2013 Mondeo 2.ol TDCI Titanium X ) and I have got my car booked in with local Ford Specialist next week. This video has been mega helpful to show me what is involved. Plus a very funny man which is always a bonus

    Mine has literally just started a regen as I pulled onto my drive (2012 Titanium X Sport). Never revved like that, but the exhaust note changed and the fans came on full Bore! 😂 Took just over 5 mins to complete. Also, a worthwhile note, check your instant mpg. When just idling, it should read 0.1 mpg, when on a regen it should read 0.4 mpg. 👍

    With the car on the ground,I managed to remove my vaporiser valve in one piece with an open ended spanner hammered on with shims so it was on good and tight. Plenty of penetrating oil the night before.
    Using a block of wood and a small trolley jack to apply undoing pressure, tapping in the limited space, the unit came off! I drilled a 2.5mm hole in the centre of the body until it broke through to the outlet hole.
    Solid copper wire was poked into the hole until all the crap was cleared and rinsed with some brake cleaner, it was now possible to blow air through using an electric air compressor.
    The drilled hole was tapped M3 and a grub screw inserted then peened over with a hammer.
    Saved a few quid.

    @Alan many thanks for saving me a wad of money. I successfully diagnosed my fuel Vaporiser thanks to this video. I replaced it at 1200000 miles with ford main dealer and fitted for around 600euro. Last week I ordered part from Auto Doc for 170euro (exact same part and stamp as one I removed) and followed your video. Did the regen and cleared the codes. Using premium diesel and the difference in the power is unreal. Next time you're in Dublin I'll buy you a few pints 😎

    I had this problem when I first had my second hand mondeo but sprayed EGR cleaner into the EGR intake then added DPF cleaner to the tank and it cleared my engine management light and I haven’t had any trouble since! I regularly use this DPF additive now as I only drive the car locally and it is sound. 😀👍

    I have the same Ford setup on the Puma engine in my Relay van. Could you please confirm that when you disconnect the metering pump you should be able to blow straight down the fuel supply pipe into the exhaust? I can't so I am guessing it is blocked solid but it is an exhaust off job on these vans to get the injector out so I am just checking. Thanks.

    Great watch. Currently got a galaxy in with the code p244c low temp in cat during regeneration. Removed the fuel pipe from vaporiser and activated pump via snap on machine. Pumps diesel so i would assume the vaporiser is blocked or the glow plug is knackered. Local ford dealers are wanting £278 plus vat

    Hi Alan,
    I have a Citroen C4 VTR plus HDI 2.0L 2005 that had a new turbo about 2 years ago. I purchased the car after the old owner replaced the turbo. Unfortunately the turbo has only worked once and that was when I put some diesel magic into the fuel tank and magically the turbo started working and lots of power for only a few days. Could the reason the turbo is not working is due to the DPF being blocked and thus a loss of power or the EGR valve possibly being caked up with soot or just that the turbo has failed or has a blockage.

    Hi Alan, my 2013 has been in with the mechanic today and he tested everything and all is working. No blockage in the nozzle, no vacuum pressure. The car is showing P244C. Car is putting up engine malfunction warning but no EML. No loss of power or limp mode. Car is on 160k+. Mechanic reckons Dpf is just fubared. What you reckon mate?

    I have just got the DPF in my mondeo 2010 cleaned and the vaporizer replaced. The only concern I have is that the car doesn't read the average MPG or how much fuel is left in the tank any more. All i see is - - -. It is something that I didn't experience before the issue I had with the DPF, is there an explanation to what causing this?

  • @Countryclassics101

    Nice video, as expected!
    I had the same issue on my Focus and before I ordered a new part I thought I'd try to mend the old one. What do I have to lose, right?
    Long story short, after I burned the nozzle with a gas burner it started smoking and got nice and red. Kept it glowing red for about 30 minuted until I saw that there is no more smoke coming out, let it cool down a bit (no more red colour) then cooled it down quick in water to crack the soot inside then with a pick broke all the remaining ash inside and blew it out the hole.
    Managed to unclog it and it saved me about 315 Euros.
    Ah, I removed the hose and the spark plug (measured it beforehand though) before baking the nozzle, just to be on a safe side.
    Still using it 2 years later without any issues.

    Alan great another great video. Just wondering why im getting a smoke smell in the cabin of my 2007 galaxy its the qxba engine. And is my engine same as the one fitted to the focus 2.0 tdci barr ancillarys hp pump and injectors?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, thanks for comment. there could be many reasons to get smoke smell in cabin but i would check around the fuel injectors and see if any are leaking.... there will be a tar like substance around injector and it will stink inside the car.
      your engine could well be the same as the one fitted to focus but there are variations so would have to check engine codes to try get a match

    Just curious if it is worth while removing these vaporisers and cleaning them out? I suppose the idea is to improve the DPF cleaning process if the vaporiser is not as blocked. I've only had one go but wouldn't suprise me if the others are dirty.

    Alan. This video is great. Question for you. I have a 2010 diesel mondeo. That regens every 12 miles and with a scanner plugged in shows the regen happening. Then no fault code once the regen is complete. Is this a replacement DPF? And if so how hard are they to fit yourself? I'd assume if you have to replace the DPF you replace the Vaporiser as well. Cheers Sean

    Recently bought a used Focus 1.5tdci from a main dealer, I do regular long-ish commutes to work but noticed the engine was never doing an active regen. Idle speed was fast and start/stop deactivated when the engine warmed up. Also the oil change light came on 2000 miles after a service.
    Ford performed a forced regen last week and all is fine. They emailed me the job sheet and no mention was made of checking the fuel vaporiser, I have emailed them to double check this.
    My question is, if the fuel vaporiser was blocked, would the forced regen have even been possible?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      chances are you would not notice if your car was doing a regen, if that nozzle was blocked...if it is even fitted to your car or anything else was wrong that allows a regen to take place was faulty... your engine lamp would soon come on and your car would be flung into reduced power mode.......your question, if your car has this nozzle and if it was blocked...hell would have to freeze over first before a forced regen would be possible

    Hi iv got a transit connect 2013 and I had the vaporizer fule pipe replaced as it looked warn and also it kept coming Loose, however ford replaced it and also (inspected) the vaporizer, despite it being clean ... apparently.
    it kept coming off so a few cable ties and a jubilee clip later it was fine, now it's leaking diesel all over the place :( how much roughly would it cost to have the vaporizer replaced and a regen done in a garage?
    Many thanks
    Andy

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, first off the ecu codes need to be read before looking at the vaporiser, a fuel leak does not mean the vaporiser is faulty, sounds like you need a mechanic you can trust to look at your vehicle

    I have a 2.0 Diesel 2011 Ford S-max (so same engine). I'm getting a P269F - Exhaust After treatment Glow Plg Circuit/Open fault code on my OBD reader. Car isn't going into limp mode and seems to be running find. Fault clears itself but the then comes back on. My local garage are none the wiser (was in for MOT and service yesterday) and just told me to monitor. Fault light back on today.
    Although not in limp mode, I don't want to keep driving if it is going to wreck the DPF and lead to bigger bills.
    Any ideas Alan would be great, thanks.

      I believe this means that your dpf isn't blocked but your vaporiser needs replacing I would believe

    Managed to remove old one but the thread stripped on the old nut . I gave up took it to a mechanic and now it can't do a dpf regeneration due to code p246b and p2463 .changed a 20amp fuse but still won't do nowt

    Alan , I’m back to this vid regarding dpf as looking for pointers ..
    remember , I said I had new dpf fitted , then failed , then new 5th injector..
    Was all sorted ..
    question ...
    On regen , would I notice soot from exhausts ?
    I notice this every other week or and on the Same bit of road .. I comes out quite thick for a 30 seconds or , boot it and it clears even quicker ..
    Is that just clearing ash from regen ...not noticed it otherwise so don’t think it’s egr related 🙄

      hi, it is possible to see smoke on a regen but usually not much if any...you are more likely to notice a pungent smell rather than smoke but it all depends how you drive and these cars need a good run down the motorway so to speak otherwise the vehicle cannot perform proper regens on short trips and more soot accumulates

    Great video with good info delivered in a fun way :-) Now I've buttered you up can I ask a question? I've a Mk4 Mondy, had the EML a few thousand miles ago and put in some JML DPF cleaner and been OK for about 3K. Now getting EML light again intermittently. Never once been in limp mode. But how can I tell whether a regen has ever occured? Was told last year by garage that the glow plug in vaporiser not working. So if I use DPF cleaner that is meant to lower the temp at which soot burns. Will it actually occur if glow plug broken? Or can I just keep using DPF cleaner every couple of thousand miles to save forking out 250 quid for vaporizer and 150 quid for forced regen, plus about 150 labour costs.

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      well hello, ok, I've read your book lol, the first thing here, you say the eml lamp comes on... has anybody read the ecu fault codes to see if they are related to the dpf ?
      as for the glow plug not working.. this system will only switch on during certain conditions. i have never used dpf cleaner so i cannot really comment. a regen will generally happen at speed on the motorway, you will not know this as the system was never intended to alert the driver a regen is taking place but when a regen does take place and all is working correctly, you will get a poignant smell from the exhaust, lol, i can't explain that any better ... without knowing what it smells like you won't know.
      let me find out the price of a new nozzle and what i would charge... i will get back to you on that.

      you dont have to prime the vaporiser...sounds like there is a dead short in your new nozzles glow plug...disconnect the wiring to the nozzle and see if the fuse still blows

      2007 didnt use them.... 2010 and on used them..... On the 2007 -2010ish ones they used the standard injectors and sprayed diesel in on the exhaust stroke.... The reason they added fuel varoriser was diesel gets in the oil

    Mondeo mk4 2009 tdci
    Coming down the motorway this evening I had a Dpf overload warning on.
    So I floored it to 90mph where a great deal of black smoke came out and since then it's been ok.
    What's your take on this as I do motorway journeys every day.
    Kind regards Paul

      might be worth checking the 2 rubber hoses that come off your dpf are not burnt or split and leaking

    Hi, Alan, thanks for the video clip, I've changed the vaporizer valve, but still can't solve the problem of my frequently DPF regen(there was no any error message, but DPF regen almost every 200km), I didn't do the force regen after the replacement, Do I need to reset the "Exhaust Gas Temperature Learned Value" or something else by using Forscan?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      a forced regen is usually the best action if the engine management lamp was on due to dpf soot accumulation but the very fact your vehicle is doing a regen as it should without any error codes said to me everything is working fine, do you do much about town driving or motorway miles as typically a long run down the motorway is the best chance for a regen to take place successfully

      @@alan4x thanks for the reply, I drive around 100km at every working day and 90% on highway, I used to watch a vid clip about changing the vaporizer valve, said they did reset something and did the force regen after the replacement, but they didn't point what exact it is, the mileage of my last regen. is about 500km, seems it is getting reasonable, I'll keep it up to date.

    Hello again Alan, on the way back from work today check engine illuminated and car went into limp mode, checked fault code and they are exactly like yours on the video.
    Also i wanted to try static regen and engine just cut out on me after about 5 min of revving, what else should i check before changing that vaporiser? Differential pressure on dpf on idle is 0-1 kPa soot load is 60% and dpf load is 98 %.
    Thanks for your help

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hi, check the two rubber hoses from the dpf to the pressure sensor.. the hoses get burnt and break.....next remove the dpf nozzle and if it is blocked you must replace it...you cannot do a regen with a blocked nozzle.
      clear any fault codes in the ecu if you can...if they won't clear ..reset the dpf with your scanner...it will say you should do this if you replace the dpf but don't worry...just do it lol.
      if the codes still won't clear or you are still unable to carry out a static regen with your scanner...take the car on the road and give it a good thrashing... then you should be able to carry out static regen....these are things i quite regularly have to do...thrashing the car before a regen has always worked for me

    @Alan Howatt from your experience with 2.0D PSA Jonah Engine do you have an idea why diesel comes into engine oil, level rises ove Max level. Could this be due to O-ring leak from HP pump or faulty injector or ...? tnx

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      if an injector was leaking into a cylinder over night you would get a lot of smoke on start up...high chance the high pressure fuel pump is leaking fuel past its seal into the cylinder head...you will need to replace the pump

    • @raff2taff
      @raff2taff 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alan4x tnx for fast reply! Engine actually has issues with the first start when standing for longer period e.g. overnight, I thought this could be due to sticking flap in throttle body (another one of Jonah's specialities ;) ), it usually starts at second try. But wouldn't DPF prevent/catch smoke if faulty injector would leak over night? And another strange thing about Siemens HP pump is that it has two O-rings seals and in between there should be a draining hole in case of leaking this hole should drain leakage on the engine block, outside, and this sould prevent leaks into cylinder head? So this should be a theory. Would a test of injectors with 4-bottles catching diesel return pipe tell me anything, be useful in this case? Cheers

    Hi Allan, I had the engine sign come up in my 2012 Mondeo and took it in but they said they didn't have anything show on the analizer or what ever you call it but they put a new throttle box in . It hasn't done it since but I haven't been on a motorway since so I don't know if they cured it but I had them change the fuel filter as I didn't know if that had ever been done so do you think it could show up again. The mileage on the odometer is 115000.I would appreciate if you answer but I won't mind if you don't.

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      its hard to know why the engine symbol came up without knowing the fault code but a blocked fuel filter can cause all sorts, best thing is give it a good run and see how it does

  • @JamesCoyle95

    If the vaporizer needs replacing is it possible to swap out the entire DPF and vaporizer at home without needing any special tools to prime it or anything? I've just been charged a ridiculous amount for a new vaporizer and DPF clean and could have bought a vaporizer and whole new DPF for cheaper and fitted them myself for less.

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you dont need to bleed the system after replacement but if the engine was in limp mode because the dpf had too much soot usually a static regen would clear that rather than replacing the dpf

    My car is a nightmare, I've got a 2011 mondeo estate and the engine malfunction light is on, I have no power loss so I assume my dpf is not yet blocked, I've driven 5000 miles like this with no issues other than the engine malfunction light.
    The error message is catilist temperature too low.
    My garage told me they need to remove the dpf to clean and fit a new vaporiser, the only problem with this is, firstly, my car does not have a vaporiser like Alan, s taxie instead I have 2 pipes going straight into my dpf that cannot be removed unless I replace the full dpf and secondly why would my garage need to remove and clean the dpf if my car is running fine? Am I being thick here? Lol.
    I have had my car into anougther 2 garages and neither can diagnose the fault, my car has now covered 150000 miles and I brought it with 145000 miles so I took a gamble here really but apart from this the car is spot on and was well worth the 2k I paid until this poxy light came on.
    Also this engine malfunction message can be cleared but after 300miles it always reapears.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Just changed my vaporizer on transit custom not sure if fuel coming through lines how do you bleed vaporizer pump?

    • @alan4x
      @alan4x  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      there is a little rubber hose that goes to the vaporiser...fuel should be in that pipe...you dont bleed the nozzle..when the car starts a regen a small pump will push fuel through the nozzle automatically
