Ali Abunimah: Israel has lost

  • On June 10, 2024, Dimitri Lascaris spoke with Ali Abunimah, a Chicago-based, Palestinian-American journalist and co-founder of Electronic Intifada (EI).
EI covers the Palestinian struggle from a Palestinian perspective.
Abunimah and Lascaris discussed the state of the conflict between Israel's military and Palestinian militants, Israel's mounting economic challenges, and the apartheid state's international isolation.
According to Abunimah, Israel has already been defeated. The massive civilian casualties that its military forces continue to inflict on Palestinians cannot conceal that reality.

E.I. has been a huge part of my education about Palestine. For a couple of decades now, I've been critical of the Israeli government because of the expanding settlements and especially because I have a revulsion toward collective punishment (back in the 90s was the first I learned that Israel would bulldoze the house of the family of someone arrested. But I'm ashamed to say I didn't understand the extent of the pervasiveness of the depravity, the cruelty, the immorality and the lies of the Zionist project. There are a number of sources besides E.I. (the GrayZone, Useful Idiots and Katie Halper's personal TH-cam channel have all been indispensable.) I would say the uniqueness of E.I.is not just the high quality military analysis, but also their translations of Israeli media to damn themselves and most of all, how they center Palestinian voices as much as possible. That's the key: western corporate media is fully in line with Israeli Hasbara (propaganda) of dehumanizing Palestinians. E.I. palpably and viscerally upends that racist narrative by showing the humanity (with all the pain, the joy, the love, the grief, the anger, the resilience, etc) of the Palestinian people.

The Palestinian resistance forces have a great deal to be proud of. When all of the Arab and Islamic world turned their backs on them (except the Houthis from afar), they stood against the better armed and equipped Israelis like the heroic Spartans at the battle of Thermopylae and have put the whole of the Islamic world to shame. Out of 1.7 billion Muslims in the world, no one went to assist them. They stood alone on the battlefield. The rest of the Muslim world’s guns were silent -they were all talk and empty cowardly prayers. The Palestinian fighters are the heroes of the Islamic world. They can stand tall in their rightful boast: We stood against giants and prevailed. And whether they win the final battles of Gaza or not, their praises will be sung for a thousand years. I salute you!
You all here are also heroes. Without the story teller, who will know the story. Without the lyricist, who can sing the song. You all can also hold your heads high that you stood against evil at potentially great risk to your careers and possibly lives.

I wish i could agree with you about palestinian military victory , israeli has unlimited military support from the us , ultimately this is all playing into there grand and far reaching plans . Pentagon planers may vary well intended to provocat a larger conflict, this could have something to do with new power alliances between Russia China and iran , they accomplished setting gaza back by destroying so much infustructure ,the large road they are building is also a wall cutting off north gaza , i fully expect that they are going to take that so yhey can build there 55 billion dollar canal to bypass the suez canal that represents 40% of egypts economy of a population of 100 million, that's a lot of money for israel's population of 9.5 million not to mention muti trillion dollar gass fields off gazas coast and the massive oil and gas fields in the
Golin hights ,just in time for energy markets to open up in Europe do to the ukrainian conflict, whatch how they will sustain both .

I'm afraid that it might lead to pogroms that would never be prosecuted, because a lot of economical, political and military power would remain with Israeli Jews.
