When I moved there it was a bit third world but it has advanced to provide a higher state of living for residents. However the estate agents are a very shady mob and the government is basically a family run mafia with nepotism on show everywhere. Corruption runs from the top to bottom. Also full of Russians and their companies due to the tax benefits. The best beaches and food are in the occupied North. However southern Cyprus does have it's charms and those who are not corrupt are very nice people
