Jubilee has the potential to be a really great channel, but their debates are always incredibly hard to follow because they DO NOT MODERATE!!! If they had a moderator who was capable of actually doing the job these videos would be so much better. People screaming over each other is not a debate. It’s a grating shouting match.
Edit to clarify: Many people have been commenting that they don’t want a moderator because they want everyone to have the chance to speak - I agree. That’s exactly WHY you need a moderator, whether it’s a proper debate or simply a heated discussion. I want everyone to have an equal opportunity to talk and not have to constantly say “Can you please stop interrupting me?” “Can I please finish my statement?” “Can I please answer the actual prompt?”
They shouldn’t have to fight to speak. A moderator isn’t there to censor, (when done correctly) they’re there to ensure that everyone on the panel has an equal opportunity to speak.

Ariel was completely wrong about his comment on Palestinians standing a fair trial. Palestinians of the occupied West Bank, are not citizens of Israel. Thus in Zone B, or Zone C, where the Israeli military has legal and de facto military control, when the military arrests Palestinian Arabs they are arrested and treated like military subjects. And thus not awarded the same legal rights as an Israeli citizen, who would be arrested in Israel. It is estimated that there are over 1200 Palestinians, who are held in Israeli prisons without trial.

Source: Defence for Children International - Palestine.
“Research by ‘Save the Children’ found that Palestinian minors in Israeli detention endured physical, emotional and s*xual abuse. These children were often arrested at night and blindfolded with their hands and feet tied. 86% said they had been beaten, 69% said they had been strip-searched. Children reported being interrogated at unknown locations without a lawyer or parent present.”
      Source: Save the Children.
“Israel allows minors to be prosecuted in military courts, which may accept confessions obtained by coercion or torture.
500-700 children are tried in military courts in Israel every year, the most common charge is stone-throwing, which can a prison sentence of up to 20 years.”

To maintain some of the autonomy, Palestinians have their own legal system that handles all crimes that are not security-related. For security-related crimes, Palestinians are trailed by a legal entity under the Israeli military.
If you judge Palestinians in Israel's normal justice system, this is de facto annexation of the West Bank. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want Israel to annex the Occupied Territories?
This is not done to hurt Palestinians, and being trailed in military court doesn't mean you get an unfair trial. This is simply done to avoid annexation.

as someone with family in Ukraine, I 100% agree that it hits differently when it's your family at risk. when you have no stake in a war, it's easy to sympathize with one side or the other, or both even, but when it's your family it's different. when it's your little brother in a trench, when it's your cousin's mangled remains being recovered from their bombed apartment, or your little cousin's body which was recovered in a mass grave. it absolutely hits differently. it becomes near impossible to see the other side as human, let alone have sympathy for their lost loved one's, if it wasn't for Russians I knew in collage and HS who were genuinely amazing people. I don't think I'd be able to separate every day Russians from the Russian state in my head.

Even crazier before oct 7th, Israel had controlled the calorie intake for the population and limits entry of imports to below average needs for humans. Obviously Gaza also provides some of the food for their people, but generally they have to rely on Israel, because they control their every border.
As an occuppying force, they are also obliged to keep the occupied party nourished or else it again is considered a war crime under international law. They obviously can lift the almost 20yr siege of Gaza and let them get food and water from other sources.
Also did you know that Israel steals the water from the west bank and sells a limited amount back to them? Israelis have approx. 4 times the amount of water than the people in the west bank.

Actually, Palestinians in the West Bank are not granted the same judicial rights and processes as Israeli citizens. Palestinians can be held in administrative detention in Israeli prisons for years without trial, because they are under martial law. Israeli citizens, on the other hand, are under civil law, and would never be held in administrative detention for years without trial. Here’s what I found regarding the water situation. True, that Gaza had a water supply issue before. However…now it is no more than 5% of the usual production (source: PBS/Unicef), causing people to survive on only 1.5-2 liters a day (Unicef). So Swanni’s claim that Israel did not cause the water shortage is just….manipulative. Why? Here are the facts (PBS/Unicef). First of all, Israel controls THREE pipelines to Gaza (13%). Second, Israel has blocked cement from Gaza to build the treatment plants. Third, these plants have now been damaged by the bombs. Fourth, the existing desalinization plants cannot be turned on because ISRAEL HAS BLOCKED THE FUEL TO TURN THEM ON (NPR). So yes, the water shortage is Israel’s fault. Swanni demonstrated herself how Palestinian suffering is being downplayed.

I think you missed the point, almost everything you just said is accounted for by what she said. They CAN'T build pipes or send fuel because hamas then just uses that for rockets.

So, the whole time Palestine was self governing and getting aide and funding they couldn't figure out how to get water for their people? They figured out how to arm their militias... Why would a country send supplies to their enemies? And I don't mean the people of Palestine, I mean the non conventional military that can easily pretend to be non combatants and divert said supplies into their own war effort? Counter intuitive. If Gaza has no water, it's their governments fault for not building the infrastructure when they were getting the resources to do so.
This really does suck, I hate to see so many people suffer, but you can't put all the blame solely on Israel.
