Why Israel is in deep trouble: John Mearsheimer with Tom Switzer

  • US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on 29 September 2023 that “The Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades.” That all changed on October 7 when Hamas attacked Israel, which unsurprisingly invaded Gaza to destroy Hamas.
After more than six months, it appears to many that Israel is losing its war in Gaza. At the same time, Israel is fighting Hezbollah on its northern border, relations between Jerusalem and Washington are strained, and the International Court of Justice has ruled that a plausible case can be made that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.
Meanwhile, there is great danger of escalation across the region, as the fighting between Israel and Iran makes clear. Indeed, there is a possibility the United States, which is already fighting the Houthis, might end up in a war with Iran, which neither country wants.
What might be the lasting consequences of these conflicts? Who will emerge weaker and who stronger? And what does this crisis mean for U.S. foreign policy in the region, Ukraine and East Asia?
Next in our Greater Middle East Debate Series, Bret Stephens will be taking a very different stance on the Israel and Palestinian conflict on 18 June in Sydney and 20 June in Melbourne. Get your tickets: www.cis.org.au/event/bret-ste...

As an orthodox jew, I condemn the terrorist acts and war crimes of Israel. I support the creation of a free and independent Palestinian state. This will end all the violence. As Jews we need to accept that Israel is the occupying force and we need to do the right thing and give Palestinians their own independent state free from Israeli interferences. CRITCIZING ISRAEL ISN'T ANTISEMITISM!!! JUDAISM HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH ZIONISM !!!!

Sorry... Palestine didnt exist. That is just a name Rome gave to Israel after they invaded in 70 AD. I know you think you are so smug but you dont know history. It was under the Ottomans who were not even Arab from 1517 to 1917 and there was never a Palestinian state. The Arabs who call themselves Palestinian came to the area after 1880 (not the Bedouins who today are citizens of Israel and serve in the Israel military).

Have you seen Jordan Petersons interview with the son of hamas founder? How do you explain an Egyptian stele from the 9th Century BC that identifies Israel by name? Or a canaanite one mentioning king David from the house of David, in the land of Israel?
Everyone used to kno this stuff before globalists used the tech to deceive and create chaos in order to install one world governance once they've used the oppressor vs oppressed narrative to get those who bought into it to tear down the old world so they can literally own the planet and everyone on it.

This entire presentation is a tragedy of deception and hot bubbling horse manure. _1)) “Israel is an Apartheid State”. As a South African and someone who proudly voted and stood up against the apartheid government, and who has visited Israel - I can say that this is a fowl lie. In Israel, Arabs&Palestinians can vote, are in parliament, have access to the same health care and are even in the Israeli military. THIS WAS AN UTTER IMPOSSIBILITY in apartheid South Africa. _2)) “Israel wants to ethnically cleanse”. As a nuclear power, Israel has had the power to wipe out every living Palestinian for many decades now - has it? Since 2005 when Gaza became sovereign- their population has steadily increased by over 40%. This is the polar opposite of ethnic cleansing, and yet this Mearsheimer has the gall to use the same term used to describe the Holocaust and Rwandan genocide! _3)) “After giving Gaza to the Palestinians, Israel immediately turned it into an open air prison”. Actually before making Gaza autonomous , both sides signed many peace agreements. Literally 3 months after gaining sovereignty, the Gaza Palestinians began firing death rockets at Israeli civilians. The result? Israel instituted protective measures. Then more rockets were fired, resulting in ever increasing spiral of security measures such as strong borders, barricades , blockades etc. (To date, over 100 000 rockets fired at Israel). Israel forcefully and painfully removing its own people from their homes and communities and giving Gaza COMPLETE autonomy was the ultimate test of ‘will a two state solution work?’. Make no mistake that with all the international funding and donations , Gaza could have easily become a mini Dubai by now with a vibrant safe economy. However with Hamas unceasingly calling for the murder of every living Israeli man woman and child and instituting this as their state policy, THEY CHOSE a different future for themselves! _4)) The great buffoonery of John Mearsheimer is that he treats this conflict as a territorial dispute, and a political dispute. NOTHING could be further from the truth. The majority root cause of the entire conflict is because of what the Palestinians are heavily invested in - and that ladies and gentlemen is ISLAMIC FUNDAMENTALISM/EXTREMISM. There is good reason why the largest security wall on the border of Gaza has just been built, not by the Israeli’s but by the Egyptians. That’s right, it’s because the Palestinians aided and supported an ISLAMIC EXTREMIST group called The Muslim Brotherhood against Egypt’s government. The Palestinians have long chosen the worlds greatest sponsor of terrorism and brutal tyranny- the Islamic Republic of Iran as their mentor and sponsor. _______ THE FUNDAMENTAL ROOT CAUSE OF THIS ENTIRE CONFLICT is EXACTLY THE SAME as the EXTREMISM that flew the airliners into the Twin Towers ; that stole and raped 300 Nigerian school girls (who’ve never been seen again) ; that slaughtered so many in the France and Belgium terrorist attacks ; that bombed and set fire to churches in the Philippines, that murdered so many innocents in the Kenyan shopping mall attacks ; that beheaded dozens of Coptic Christians in Egypt , that annihilated entire towns and forced thousands of Kurdish women into sexual slavery - THE LIST GOES ON AND ON , and will continue until all the worlds infidels either convert or die. _5)) But as ‘genius’ John Mearsheimer says, let’s blame EVERYTHING on Israel

He cherry picks history to fit the idea box he creates for himself. His idea that Russia is not Imperial nor has Imperial designs is flat out wrong. He doesn't admit he's wrong either because that would be a downgrade to his brand. A democratic and economically thriving Ukraine is a fundamental threat to Putins regime. This notion about NATO expansion is total bs .. yet your former prof readily spews this idea. Sweden / Finland are now in NATO - why ? Because those countries fear Imperialist Russia as do the Baltic states. Mearshimer is a broken man.. same with his wrong take on Israel / Palestinian conflict. "Drive them out". He should be able to site actual statistics on that .. if that was the plan ... "ethnic cleansing" there should be less Palestinians in Gaza and West Bank than a decade ago .... except thats not the case. He's an anti-semite cloaked in academia.

Protest rallies at university campuses in the US, Canada, Britain, and Australia against what (let there be no mistake about this) are the undeniably disproportionate responses by the Israeli Defense Forces [IDF] upon Gaza, for the heinous barbarism Hamas militia forces initiated on October 7, reached fever pitch in the last two weeks of April, and into May. However, it is also an undeniable reality that, Hamas’ strategists, were 101% certain Israel’s rejoinder to what its militia initially inflicted upon unarmed Israelis on October 7, would be met with the ferocious responses, which have transpired.
Therefore, the only conclusion to draw is that, Hamas’ military strategists willfully launched that gruesome attack on October 7, knowing full well Israel would respond ferociously. Essentially, Hamas was fully prepared to inevitably sacrifice the lives of many thousands of Gazans, in order for it to win the PR war. And there are two strands to contend with here.
First, they knew it was absolutely certain that the millions of Muslims currently residing in Western countries (which accrues to be in the vicinity of 30 million people) would culminate with them rallying en masse to stage pro-Palestinian, and anti-Western protests.
The second trait of its plan, was with banking upon gaining the sympathy of leftoid liberals in Western spheres: by way of manipulating their mindsets with seeing an unending parade of suffering in Gaza.
Well, the latter facet has certainly come to fruition, and prevails with leftist-leaning education federations in Western nations calling for ‘solidarity with Palestine’, and the ‘eradication of Israel, and its inhabitants’. However, these same entities haven’t summarily condemned the extreme barbarism that Hamas perpetrated on October 7, with callously massacring at least 1200 unarmed people, and raping numerous women.

In global arms trade agreements, states should not be allowed to create unrest (conflict or tumult) to increase arms sales. It is also valid in reverse. Laws that prevent the flow of weapons that states can use to commit cruelty need to be reorganized by international law.
