Took one for a test drive. Very nice - not much too fault except the price. A few extras and the luxury car tax pushes even a base model over $120 k. A lot to pay for a depreciating item that in 5 years time will be worth about half this.
yes it will depreciate its normal..but for some people its not about that.. Its about what you like and enjoy ...life is short..money is just a paper spend it!
LCT applies to similar vehicles, so, it’s not the fault of LR Australia If a P400 Defender was $ 110 k before on road costs Besides the GST, there is $ 8,800.00 of LCT in the price of $ 110 k This P400 on test was $ 161 k plus on roads. Besides the GST, there is $ 20,400 of LCT in the price ! Of the $ 51 k price difference, $ 11,600 is LCT, and $ 5 k is GST. In total, nearly $ 17 k of the $ 51 k price difference, is tax, to the Government ! Same situation with a BMW or Benz or a new LC 300… etc etc 🤷🏻♂️ LCT is ridiculous and should be abolished. Mass production of new motor vehicles in Australia ceased in late 2017. There is no longer local large scale car industry that LCT was originally introduced, to protect. Abolish LCT, and the price of all vehicles would then be cheaper / get cheaper. Its then easier to afford a new or newer vehicle that has better safety features / lower emissions etc. Why is there no Luxury Tax on expensive jewellery or boats or yachts or antiques ? New Defender is hugely popular About 50,000 on worldwide back order. Very little, if any depreciation on a Defender…
@@sandilemajiya7831 nothing. It’s a fine car. Older range rovers had reliability issues. New ones are supposedly are better, but people have long memories.
I wonder if that square plate on the side glass can be removed so visibility is improved. I doubt a lot of buyers are going to want a side box. Its great for knocking people off their bicycles when driving on the road, but I really don't see a use for it. Hopefully they thought about people that don't want it and can remove the plate for more visibility.
Really great review. Very informative. What an awesome vehicle. Love the exterior and interior styling. For a large vehicle, that weighs 2.5 tonne, the fuel economy with the P400 petrol engine is fantastic. The 5 year Service Plan is excellent value.
These sort of marketing reviews lack substance: 1) This vehicle sits high (even with air suspension lowered). How easy / difficult was it for her to clamber into the interior? 2) She says she enjoyed getting into this vehicle everyday but she does not appear very tall and looks heavier than average 3) Unless she is routinely towing or going on rough service roads, there are much more suitable cars than this for a family
These superficial reviews are really just “ promotional reviews “ for the manufacturer. I’ll stick to the serious road tests from independent European journalists.
I am willing to bet a Honda CRV is better suited to how she would actually use a vehicle. Auto manufacturers now use so-called journalists to provide reviews on social media and she is a little more than an indirect sales agent for the manufacturer. This is not a true review. The fact that she can't invest time to know how to fold the second row flat speaks volumes.
Defender’s were once an off road vehicle, unfortunately reviewers don’t even mention wether a vehicle has low ratio. Is it all wheel drive? Does it have a chassis Off road I don’t think so
They look great but the price on these is a bit ridiculous. Went to my dealer, 110’s were $80-90k, 90’s were $90k+ USD I love LR’s but this whole car release has turned me off so much to the brand. I despise Ford but I can spec out a new full-size bronco and the electric f150 for not much more than a dealer marked up 90. Crazy.
Looks good Vehicle from Outside, but not impressed from Interior… lagging lots if u compare with others in same price or lot less 4by4. Price is really unrealistic.. 🤷♂️ looks uncomfortable for 3rd row at back. 🙏🏽
"The family 4x4 then do almost anything?" What are you trying to say? Perhaps you meant The family 4x4 that can do almost anything ? The price means it not a family car for most families, certainly not those on average household incomes.
@@mansees well obviously as I wouldn't waste my money on a new one. Happy wasting my money on my old one. I can't see the new one still working when it's 39 years old though.
Expand on the mediocre 4wd capabilities? Agree not many would be utilised to fill potential but Defender's are one of the best factory 4x4's on the market.
This car has the highest guaranteed value of any VWFS offers... reliability is yet to be proven but has been fine so far. Its also one of the best out of the box off roaders on the market. 5 years servicing costs just $2250.... cheaper than a golf. Its a great car, drive one.
Cavernous boot, ugly exterior and overpriced. We saw heaps of Range Rovers towed into work, but not many of the old Defenders. Hopefully they are reliable.
it's just an expensive 'freemasonry badge' with wheels on---- LANDROVER has a TRIPLE ROYAL WARRANT. which means it is an OFFICIAL BRAND OF FREEMASONRY.
This is the best review I’ve ever seen of the new Defender.
Well done.
I'm thinking of getting this car. Looks awesome, 7 seater-ish, comfort and luxury. Love the review straight to the point. Thanks
Its been 19 months I took my D300 Defender...I like it so much.
" A Range Rover in cargo pants." Clever, I like that
Only drama with this vehicle is the manufacturer refuse to honour warranty issue
Examples?
Yes, examples, please!

almost anything, it's not ideal off road, but it's a perfect family 4x4
classic Toorak Tractor. Great for picking up the kids at PLC, but why do you need a 4wd for that?
May be u never been to offroad in any car...

Landrover insist it is not an SUV but a 4x4 all terrain vehicle.

You better not to go off road in any vehicle lol...if defender can't go off road then which one does??
@@raghavshankara5601 No offence but I guess Cruisers & Patrols are Greek and Latin for ya if you think you can push a Defender off road. Lol

Really competes with g class land cruiser and Lexus..?
In Australia, G class and Lexus is way more expensive then this.

“Mid level entry” in itself doesn’t make sense (surely it’s one or the other) and moreover that is wrong as the X is the top of the range!

Its a Land Rover. If you are focused on the price, it's not meant for you.

Hi guys!
Try putting ARB gear onto it…haha
Love one in 6 seat guise but over priced & not reliable.

Overpriced and I suspect reliability is going to kill sales. I would be embarrassed to be seen driving one of these.

This is not a beautiful design
Two completely different cars 🤨, if you are looking at a Defender the other options would be LC300, Nissan Patrol or overpriced 70 series LandCruiser.
Family 4x4 that can do almost anything. So not a Defender.
