Harry will surely know that if you're going to carry a straw bale in a car that you turn up with an old duvet cover to put it in, in order to protect the car. Everybody who has ever bought a straw bale knows this.
I love how a proper off-road car then has an optional “off road pack”. Great review, I like this new Defender, it has great presence!!, plus I really appreciate the subtle nod to the classic defender with the roof line and the sides.
It's so good my company has purchased THREE and I have personally bought one. NO regrets, best purchase tows like a ox, works like a mule. One already has 6000 hours on the clock most of it towing the rest at an idle sitting in a quarry or on site. None of the guys have broke anything yet and the pickups haven't been front of the key safe since having them around
Side note, the snorkel isn't actually a snorkel and doesn't increase wading depth. It is a raised air intake which allows for clean air when driving in sandy or dusty conditions.
Don't care for the haters, this is an amazing car and a Defender in it's own right (coming from a series III previous owner). And the video was awesome. Thank you Mr. Metcalfe.
Thankyou Harry ,I've been looking forward too seeing what you made of it ,a good solid review of what as you say is a landmark vehicle for Landrover, might have to wait a while for a previously enjoyed example, but again that will be dependent on the residuals....
Thanks Harry, great review. I'm genuinely impressed by it's real world capabilities. 45k Base price though? The most adventure most of these will see is a Waitrose car park.
The best review by a country mile of the new Defender, I’d expect nothing less from Harry, I think when I get bored with repainting my crossmember every year I may go for one.
I have the 2020 version with black rims. Driven it from Atlanta to Eureka, California and to NYC three times with no problems at all. What a great upgrade to my 2006 LR3.
I still own and run a working old Defender 90, and do love it. That said, I am getting on now - and I'm a bit tired of it's quirks. I am warming to the new one. It's performance & manners are so much more 21st C than the (very 20th C) of the old one. It will be really interesting to see how the mechatronics hold up on the used market and also what happens with the environmental angle across the UK. I'd probably think commercial 110 without the macho trappings, coil sprung and full towing gubbins.
Our son in law works for JLR. Earlier in the year he turned up with a 110 Defender for a day out in the Staffordshire moorlands. 3 adult in the front. 2 grandchildren in car seat and grandad in the rear. Springer spaniel in the boot. Loads of comfortable room. Only one criticism. If you go for the front 3 seat option it does make the rear a bit claustrophobic with the centre seat in use. But I imagine it wouldn’t be used on a regular basis. Impressive off-roader, and comfortable.
I really don't think the new defender gets enough credit for its incredible breadth of ability. Its clearly not trying to be what the old defender was. It's a different, more modern and FAR more capable all round car.
The Defender has become what the original Range Rover was. It’s comfortable on and off road, you sit up high with great vision, it’s got that farm ruggedness that can be hosed out and you can use it almost anywhere, on the farm and at the theatre. The new RR is more of a super luxury car now. Sitting lower and nested in its interior. Quite different to the original RR. This Defender is a real man’s wagon, compared to the over refined super fine interior of the RR. I love mine! It’s not an old defender. They can’t be made anymore due to modern day vehicle requirements. Its not a disco either. It’s better than that. It’s an old-new RR. But Land Rover are keeping that a secret 😮.
I understand one standard no cost spec is a set of Xmas Lights that light up in random fashion as one goes along...certain things never change. Wonderful piece of over complicated tech with so many things to wrong...LR garages must be very happy...it will keep customers going back to their centres for years to come. Clever 🥸
Harry's opinion 9n this car is probably the one I trust the most because he actually lives with the car and puts it through its paces over time. A Practical, honest and common sense review as always.

Excellent review, worth waiting for.Best review yet of the Defender, from someone who knows what they are talking about.Thank you Harry.
I’ve been looking forward to this video, after seeing it on Harry’s farm
Why would what you have been looking forward to matter to anyone but you?
@@johnsmith1474 Who’s a grumpy fcker then?
When this vehicle first appeared my first impression was it's a Skoda Yeti on steroids, it's ok. After the two vids Harry has done I now really like it. Pretty sure Harry has just sold a few for LR.
I love the way you go into detail and show the customer what vehicle can do very impressive
I think this is probably the best ever review of a car I have watched. So engaging. Real-world usage and superb information provided.
A brilliant and comprehensive review! Wonderful!
Harry always gets the best driving shots.
Best and most thorough review I've seen - for intended use, not as a fashion accessory. If that doesn't sell a shed load of Defenders I don't know what would! Hope they give you one on permanent loan for that effort Harry. I want one all over again!
An 80k hay bale lugger.
@@thegibbonisreal it's a bargain for what you get!
@@gc2234 4 wheels and a superiority complex.
@@thegibbonisreal Just because YOU can't pay 80k for a vehicle to lug hay bales around, doesn't mean there aren't plenty of people that can and do. 😂
@@gc2234 you can afford it Gary ...go on get one for you and a pink one for the Mrs
Glad to see that Harry uses a proper measurement for the load area - the straw bail!. 50 years ago I used to get 2 straw bails into my Reliant Scimitar GTE - the landmark fast estate of its time. Great report.
Well done Harry, a true & proper review of a working vehicle. Just what you don’t see in a usual car review. Hat off to you Sir. 👍
Optional 'Off road pack' ... on a Defender ... you have to smile
It's nice to have options, isn't it?
Those that buy one these to off road will get the off road pack, those that buy one to tow, will get the towing pack, those that want to overland will get the adverture/explorer pack etc. It's called having choice and customisation. 👍
@@gc2234 👍
@@justafish-bd8kw The hardtop is a utility vehicle.
@@justafish-bd8kw Yeah, like every other Defender in existence. How many Defenders are used off road these days? Almost every one I see is a poser mobile.
Thank you Harry - this is Proper review of Defender it deserves
Finally. A real review. Superb video.
Harry old chap, you're a genius. I loved every moment of this film. Well done.
This is where owning a farm really pays dividends!
Great comment on many levels
If I owned Brunei, I wouldn't waste money on this plastic money pit.
Big up The Car Guys for showing appreciation to another channel. I've watched you for ages now and you're great car content
@@markwood7045 👍👍👏👏
Perfect speed control in to and out of the village, very impressive driving and talking. Not as easy as you may think.
He got 25 years of experience..
No wonder here.
I’m glad I watched this video. The interior looks great and the seating position looks like a great everyday car.
Been looking forward to this for so long!! 🙏
I'm sold on the new defender. I see a few round the M25 occassionaly and liked the looks, after that review I am converted, thanks Harry, still no singing at the end though, that other fella always gives us a song
Best review yet of the Defender. Land Rover should give you that one. After that review, you probably just sold them a few thousand more units 😊
Keep up your excellent work, Harry! I love it
I’d like to watch the D200 version review
Stopped doing the D200 you only get the 3.0 6 cylinder diesel from new
@@stuartharvie1469 okay then would like to see that review from harry because he seems to dive deeper on running cost which I'm interested in. I like to see a no option defender with the 6 seater pack
@@stuartharvie1469 the entry level 6 cylinder 3 litre engine is also called the d200
Fantastic review, Harry is without doubt a master at actual real world reviews! However 400 hp, all that tech which is bound to go wrong (and it will go wrong in the middle of a field), air suspension and hybrid drivetrain... something tells me I will see most of these in and around London and the Home Counties than I will in any farm with someone in a marketing job saying how deep it will Wade and how tough the tow hooks are... with both of those things never ever being used... would be great to see how the basic diesel on steels performs as this would be the model that may be considered as an actual day to day workhorse
Imagine - a new 110 P400 that HASN'T broken down!!! Amazing!!
That's the p300 your thinking of.
Great review, I like this new Defender, it has great presence!!, plus I really appreciate the subtle nod to the classic defender with the roof line and the sides.
Supercars of London drops his defender vid at the same.
No thanks. I'll listen to Harry
I like him but he really is a chav at times.
Harry beats all of them, shmee, sol, tge, mr no clue about AMG etc. I just wish Harry had the same ammount of invites and cars to test as shmee.
I concur with your choice 👍
Great review from a real nice down to earth guy who gives us what we want to know keep’em coming
Best review of the new Defender I have seen so far. Much more attractive than a G Class or Wrangler Unlimited imo.
I saw one in it's natural habitat about two Saturdays ago in Hampstead - it looked quite good!
Metcalfe.
I love it! Except for the MPG
Thankyou Harry ,I've been looking forward too seeing what you made of it ,a good solid review of what as you say is a landmark vehicle for Landrover, might have to wait a while for a previously enjoyed example, but again that will be dependent on the residuals....
Hands down, without a doubt THE Defender review to watch.
Thanks Harry, great review. I'm genuinely impressed by it's real world capabilities. 45k Base price though? The most adventure most of these will see is a Waitrose car park.
Brilliant review, all aspects covered, the water depth was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I mean you can’t get a better review than this
The best review by a country mile of the new Defender, I’d expect nothing less from Harry, I think when I get bored with repainting my crossmember every year I may go for one.
I absolutely love my 2023 Defender 110 X-Dynamic! This is by far the best Defender review ever!
I have the 2020 version with black rims. Driven it from Atlanta to Eureka, California and to NYC three times with no problems at all. What a great upgrade to my 2006 LR3.
I'm getting to know the roads around Burford pretty well as a result of Harry's videos 😂
So nice to have a review with bonnet up,, looks like a great engine, would like one of these,,
Really intrigued by the new straight six diesel. Fingers crossed it's as good as the petrol.
By far the best performance review of the awesome astoundingly beautiful beast.. Thanks a million💕😍🤩🙏
Best Defender review on the internet. You can feel that engine power by just watching it.
Yup, good matter of fact, heart on the sleeve, not too emotional, objective journalism. Thanks.
Can you imagine Dave the mechanic at your local LR Stealership trying to fix that engine in a couple of years?
Dave’s already on his pension by the end of this year but Kevin loves replacing computer gubbins, so fear not!
You local Stealership? LR UK can't fix one right now. th-cam.com/video/mkpB8okB-xw/w-d-xo.html
That engine will be the death of it.
Exactly!

Review as usual. So straight. Love it.
If it wasn't for us living in an urban area I would bought one in an instant, that good is this review ! Thanks again Harry !
Love it Harry, my favourite review of the Defender by far.
