    I’ve had my V8 110 for nearly a year … zero issues, so far, and I love it. I also have a full size 2017 Range Rover HSE TD6 - zero issues in 5 years. I’m very happy with both vehicles. My V8 Defender regularly goes on long’ish trips (170 miles) up and down the mountains in CO. I get 22-23mpg in eco mode. Not too bad and very comfortable. This car is more economical than my pentastar standard 4 door Jeep Rubicon, although as he stated, the Defender does require premium. The sound track from the V8 and the extra goodies that come with this model make it totally worth while. I’m v.happy.

      Yeah, but I'm not buying one when fuel is $6-7 a gallon. It's ridiculous that there isn't a 5 cylinder model avaialable. I'm not interested in a gas hog V8. Just shift to a lower gear to get moving. I do that every day with my 6 speed VW.

    You’re the first reviewer to state that the V8 comes standard with all the possible options. Everybody else says how expensive it is “starting” at $100k+, failing to mention that it pretty much ends there.

    So much money to buy, so much more to keep! The Defender will NOT defend your bank account. Doesn't matter, if you have the $$$ for this rig, then you have the $$$ to pamper and maintain it. Buyers will need it. I love this design, a true future icon that pays homage to the original without being bound by it. RR does design really well but I'd take a Rubicon over this and a CR-V over that and a Audi RS4 Avant over all of them. You're still one of the best car review channels on TH-cam, you deserve a larger audience. Yeah, and Spindrift is much better than LaCroix.

I certainly understand individual stories, they certainly happen with every brand. Those who tend to complain have never owned a newer Land Rover and they are doing their thinking with (Lucas calculators ? 😂) second hand old knowledge.

It was a 'no-brainer' to join Team Voelk as a Subscriber and THUMBS-UP your many wonderful videos! Keep up the great work, Tom 🙂 IF I could make one request: for the sake of effective comparison, please always try to list some of the basic vehicle stats. It would seem that some TH-camrs have gone a bit too far in the "quirks and features" direction. Almost to the point of never even mentioning the numbers (MPG, 0-60 times, 1/4 mile, vehicle dimensions, etc.) that most autophiles would consider essential to know. Apples to apples, after all. Right?

    • @DrivenCarReviews
      @DrivenCarReviews  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I get what you're saying. Here's the thing- video is different than print, numbers don't stick in your brain the way visuals do. It's why I do the TP trunk test (though I also give the cubic feet of cargo area whenever possible, some manufacturers don't post the measurement). I always do 0-60 and MPG. I generally don't do vehicle dimensions in inches because telling people numbers really doesn't say much. Instead I give comparison vehicles that offer people a good frame of reference of size. I think that's a more effective way of telegraphing dimensions.

    I realize nobody will cross shop this with a GX460 (imo the ideal premium v8 suv) , but I still find it endlessly entertaining that the Lexus is nearly half the cost, and probably twice as reliable.

    • @gmac7726
      @gmac7726 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lexus SUVs also have less visual appeal and are devoid of personality because they're marketed toward soccer moms that view SUVs as transportation only, and that's fine if you want to have something common. I haven't had any issues with my Defender. I had plenty of issues with my GS400, but the service was always good.

    Absolutely brilliant review that is very thorough, and fair, and balanced.
    Yes, the V8 model is expensive.
    But, it’s less then a
    G wagon, and huge demand for all variations of Defender.
    Huge model range via
    90 / 110 / 130
    Different engine and trim level options etc.
    Huge breadth of capability.
    Fantastic off road and towing ability, and it’s a hugely comfortable daily driver.
    Safety, comfort, tech etc
    Choose the model, and options etc to best suit your specific requirements.
    Well done LR. 👍

    For reliability data, consumer reports is a good source, and unlike JD Power they weigh problems based on severity for their reliability ratings.
    And as a fellow photographer/videographer (but of houses mostly) I share the EXACT same thoughts relating to the weather. I love shooting in overcast weather more than sunny weather specifically because the contrast is manageable and "flat". Not true.
      Huge amount of owners of new Defender are using them off road.
      A lot of accessories available from LR, and aftermarket industry.
      Some fantastic builds that are used for overlanding, and / or serious off road terrain, via owners all over the globe.

      What u say, is true for most buyers of any type of 4WD or SUV.
      However, there is definitely a big proportion of Defender owners, that are regularly using its full capabilities.
      Besides fantastic towing & off road ability, Defender has comfort, features, safety and tech, which makes it also a great daily driver.
      Your very uninformed and biased comments, show that u make NO effort to get a broad perspective on a matter that u r making incorrect comments about.

      @@StephenFogarty2023 Huge? I would define huge as over 50 percent. Even Jeep says that only 12-15% of its vehicles hit the trails in a meaningful way. Yes, LR has a higher off-road rate than most, but statistically, it's the second or third owner that really pushes them hard. And how many of those accessories are fashion statements? Hard to really know. Anecdotally, I seldom see them at off roading sites. But they're amazing for sure.

    0:58 for some odd probably-satanic reason, it's TWICE that price tag in the GCC. I don't know how different it is from the US version under the hood, but whatever heat-resistant parts needed for the GCC market just can't be that much more expensive.

      Evidence? Oh yes that's right TFL! One Defender with issues. The other problems weren't of the Defender's making. Are they as reliable as Toyota. No. More likely to get quirky electronic issues? Probably. Are they as reliable as other modern Euros? Likely. Do I want to spend a lifetime driving Toyotas? Nope.

    These fall over quickly in anything resembling a challenging off road situation. Don't believe me? Go join an overlanding expedition with people using Jeeps and Toyota's and see how it goes for you. The resale value on these is terrible (in relation to other brands in the same segment) for very good reason.
