I am in the sunset years of my life. When my time finally arrives, I want to cross the veil into the spirit world with the sounds of this beautiful and triumphant piece, played by this astounding and talented musician as the backdrop. Gives me chills just thinking about this musical statement of having survived the challenges of mortality and coming to the end in glory and praise to the Lord for his mercy!

I am playing it tomorrow for the funeral of my friend’s mom. I was a little concerned it’s too “big,” but it gives me chills every time I listen to it.

The perfect day and time to have released your version of this beautiful composition: the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral and internment. As an American I can only feel so much pride that our birth as a country came from Great Britain. As an American I feel a great sorrow for the loss that the world has suffered in loosing such a great lady. Seeing her coffin lowered into the vault while listening to your majestic interpretation of the Enigma Variation was a very emotional moment for me. With a great amount of gratitude for sharing your talent, Sally Z

Elgar was without doubt a master of quintessentially English music. No matter the complexity of the piece you always appear to be enjoying your playing Jonathan, thank you for your work in bringing us these wonderful videos.

He plays this at the tempo I prefer. He doesn't rush through the pause points toward the end, losing the dramatic effect--something which drives me nuts on many recordings of this. This is a piece I think you can go Leonard Bernstein on--even take some license and hold it a beat & a half longer on the final crescendo.

Yes Enigma variations was not particulars religious the music is very expressive with a building to full or almost full organ then softening to the end….
