I've been listening to the 1812 overture since I was about 8 years old I'm now 70 years old and for the first time I've heard this piece played on the King of instruments and I can tell you this is a King performance well done sir
Played this on the TV through my home cinema system. One day I’ll play it really loud. Frightening. Only just discovered these brothers. Already a huge fan!
The only thing missing is the tumultuous applause of the full house this performance so richly deserved. I'm not really into organ arrangements of orchestral pieces, but yours are so damned good and so excellently played! These TH-cam concerts are a delight. Congratulations and thanks.
Way back in the early 90s I was an artilleryman stationed at Ft Stewart GA, and my unit (A battery 13th field artillery) was “salute battery” for the 24th infantry division (mechanized.) The gun crews provided cannon fire from 75mm pack howitzers for military ceremonies, parades, and other functions, and in either 1991 or 92 they fired for the Savannah Symphony’s July 4th performance of the 1812 Overture. Looking back, I wish I’d been part of a gun crew at least once.
Year 2001, somewhere in Ohio, the 4-th of July open air concert... the Conductor announces: "Don't ask me why we perform Russian composer Piotr Tchaikovsky on the 4-th of July...I don't know why"... and the final (real) cannons mixed with thunderstorm, lightnings and heavy rain in the dark... everyone left totally wet and impressed. (greetings from Russia)
In memory of the fact that the US declared war on Great Britain in 1812 hoping to take advantage the British involvement in the Napoleonic War to take over Canada. Unfortunately for them they only managed to fight a losing draw that time as the Brits/Canadians pulled back after sacking Washington DC and burning down the White house and conquering the northern shore of Lake Erie almost to Detroit. The French were unable to come and help the US win unlike 35 years earlier.
@bfcmik Wrong. The US only wanted part of Canada and not very badly. The US declared war on Great Britain to stop the Royal Navy kidnapping our merchant sailors at sea and forcing them to serve on their ships. That objective was achieved so we won.
YES! The final cannon shot, where it ALWAYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN... There are better *performances* of this piece, with better bells, real cannon, and a chorus performing the opening tune a capella... but this is the best ARRANGEMENT I've heard in fifty years of listening to it.
Every one of this man's videos leave me speechless. To the videographer, thank you for showing more of his footwork in this video then you have in others. His footwork is every bit as amazing as his nimble fingers!!
Back in 2005 I was the bass trombonist in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, we played the 1812 Overture side by side with the ASO, every time I hear this work it brings back such vivid memories of that amazing performance. Hearing it on organ is absolutely amazing, I had chills from the 15 minute mark to the end. Incredible!!
I can beat that (timewise). I played the 1812 (unfortunately never in concert) with my High School Band (Ft. Lauderdale High, FLA) as bass drummer, bought a record on my way back to Germany in New York, have listened to various performances over the years (I’m 74 now) and today (03:27 before retiering) for the first time on an organ. Thank you for the amazing experience.
Extraordinary execution, the arrangement was phenomenal! It was an enormous effort in all ways, but the results were without comparison. Even Napoleon would have liked.
Double standing ovation from me. Superb piece-excellent registrations-phenomenal use of manuals and pedal-camera angles were masterful. Left me speechless and appreciative. Thank you
You know it's coming. You just KNOW it's coming. I'm an older contankerous curmudgeon. When it got here... my goosebumps had goosebumps! One finds one's self right in the middle of things with this man. This performance was the way this piece was meant to be played, and no other! I just went up to play it again. As my cursor crossed the timeline, the sound level came up. Right around 12:45 it begins to take off. I don't get to smile too often like this. One cannot be depressed after watching this!
If this is to your liking there is another massively extravagant piece written for a celebration of a French loss in 1812. Wellington's Victory by Beethoven. As written it has an expanded orchestra, two brass bands, cannon and muskets. If you listen with headphones it starts with a drummer marching in one ear and out the other.
The beginning of this song is always beautiful, but on the organ, tears filled my eyes. I have never heard this song played in such a unique way, and it is certainly one of the best I've heard. Your gift is beyond comprehension, you are a blessing on this earth.
I was enjoying the performance at full volume while I was sending emails and nearly keeled off my secretary chair when the cannons went off (didn't notice that in the title) For one horrible moment I thought Mr. Scott had been assassinated by someone sent by Tsar Putin as punishment for the temerity of arranging the piece for organ. Will listen again suitably immunized against heart attack!
Great piece, great performance rendered by a great organist at the king of instruments !!! Congrats, Prof. Jonathan Scott ! Marvelous ! JAL, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, South America

Homie pulled up to the church, poured his heart and soul into playing that organ and just left like nothing happened. Amazing.
The angels loved every second of it.
Even just going in and playing music is worship. If it brings one joy it’s worship
When either one of the Scott brothers puts his hands on a piano or organ, us poor mortals are given a chance to experience Heaven on earth!!
Who's Homie?? This is a very skilled artist that knows what to do with this instrument. 👏
At least the church was good for something (have fun ;p)

that and the cannons having a little more bass register to their sound like a high caliber cannon rather than sounding like silver fulminate snaps
I appreciate the raw organ rendition. All of the pyro is just fluff. Yes, I enjoy the cannons and fireworks; but the Overture stands alone.
This performance brought me to tears at the end... 😂
this is without a doubt one of the most jaw-dropping organ performances on the entire Internet
