My Grandad was there and he never said much about it, but he did say he spent 3 days under an upturned boat with his best friend who died from his wounds, he watched and held his friend as he died. Never forget the sacrifice those brave men made for us.
Watching Dunkirk was a soulful sucker punch to the gut, where do we find such extraordinary men? Manning the boats, those waiting on the beaches for rescue & those waiting at home for the desperate evacuation to return. Great Britain. Heroic people.
This is probably the best ww2 movie ever made. The rendition of Nimrod is superbly complimentary. As en ex Brit born in Woking, where the film ends, I feel emotional nostalgia for the great late ww2 generation. Best wishes from western Canada 🇨🇦 ❤
@@henryjohnfacey8213 No one was arbitrating anything Henry but thanks for the misrepresentation. I am sorry but what has St George got to do with Nimrod which is a British (not 'English') anthem? But, as it happens, yes I know St George was allegedly buried in Palestine. Totally irrelevant but whatever .....
Both my uncles where in the 51st one stayed behind to fight the other got away and went to India to go on to fight the Japanese, the one stayed behind got caught and was sent to a stalag and escaped before getting caught i am so proud and actually got to know one of my uncles before he passed god save the United Kingdom 🇬🇧
I am old and over the years I have never lost faith in the young of today understanding what these lads did for their grand parents, their parents and ultimately they themselves. Lately I must admit I worry that their heroism and sacrifice is getting lost in the mist of time and wokeism. To any youngsters of today that worry about their colour or their gender, more than what can happen in the horrors war. Please understand that life is not always easy, but it is precious. Be proud of who you are but do not forget what these lads and the ladies who fought did for you. Please do not ignore history. Look back into your own families history and I believe that somewhere in your family line you will see that sacrifice. You may well not be here today if it wasn't for them. LEST WE FORGET.

I would like to mention Captain Charles William Frederick Hope, Earl of Hopetoun (later the 3rd Marquess of Linlithgow) who served as an officer in the 51st Highland Division and was captured along with the rest of the Division at Dunkirk. He was held at Colditz Castle for the duration of the war. I held a summer internship at the stately home of the Hopes of Hopetoun (Hopetoun House) and learned of his story there.

Brilliant film. Superb music. Excuse my ignorance, did they actually bomb a ship marked with a Red Cross evacuating wounded? Keeping the story alive. Lest we forget. 🦘🇦🇺👍
I'm not sure, but I have read that the Germans generally observed the rules of war in the West. In the East they committed atrocities per Hitler's orders. This does not mean that rogue soldiers didn't violate them now and then. In the West.
Wonderful voice and sung with great feeling. Exquisite filming and continuity. Surely one of the Great pieces of film ever. 🇬🇧

In my opinion, one of the most emotive, emotional and majestic pieces of music ever written. What an inspirational composer Elgar was.
The spitfire scenes in this movie are sublime
Profoundly moving. Let us never forget these brave men of courage and dedication, and may they Rest in Peace in Paradise.
Brilliant piece of music! Goes so well with this powerful scene/film. Never forget! 💙
May countries never forget the heroic soldiers who went to the field of war and gave their lives, may they be at peace in heaven!! 🌎🥇🕯🏳
AMEN
Most beautiful it fills your soul
So glad I found this today
Now part of my play list
Thanks
Anyone whose heart isn't pulled by the visuals let alone the superb vocals of Nimrod then they aren't British.
Not British but some of my ancestors were. I love this song.
Aren't Alive........
Not British.... and it's exquisite
Ho dear ! An arbitrator on what's British. If you don't know where St George is buried your not English.

Well combined! Hats off! Their blood was the price of our peace, may peace prevail.

‘This movie & music grabs my heart. Brings me to tears every time. Bless their hearts. Her voice singling is absolutely beautiful
Brilliant and Beautiful!!!! Moved Me to Tears!!!!

Even in defeat we stood firm to regroup and to fight on, the whole country with us, we are British.

well this youngster sure did look back a turbulent time of sacrifice all for this
Well said sir 😊
Crying my eyes out at 10am. So moving - the most beautiful music flowing over the horrors of war.
Sanctus, Sanctus, Sanctus

Oh my GOD!! Simply Divine !!
To allow this to happen the 51st Highland Division stayed behind.Allies were all one team and they took one for the team.

One of many sacrifices that have went unrealised to allow the main body to regroup. They gave everything.
Please don't forget the French lions either
the 51st were treated horribly by the German soldiers and also the French POWs. The French were treated so much better than them.

oh my god, it's a tremendously touching version
Absolutely moving, and thought provoking
This is very haunting but brilliant.
Nimrod is my inspiration.
Jesus Christ that’s incredible. 🇬🇧
Rule Brittania, we shall never surrender
🇬🇧❤beautiful voice and song...émotive...and sad
Respect the weight these men carry, more often than not, in silence ❤
The last movie that I saw in a theatre.
Absolutely sensational! Wonderful singing but Katherine Jenkins! Tom Hardy is a bit of alright too!
Very nice video !
Thank you !!
Brutal and sublime at the same time. Thank you. #Nimrod #Elgar
Think the beach is a bit empty. It would have been full of the detritus of war and thousands of people.

We live in such an emotive, yet incredibly vivid universe. God save the king!
Pas facile de suivre l'histoire...
Per ardua ad alta.
Cut your blue editing, would you?
They dount have to be English its so moveing.
Love the music…but the story is not very well told… my grandfather was at Dunkirk and the 1958 John Mills film is much better…🎈
Hmmm.....no comments by Germans.......
Don’t mention the war! I think I did once and got away with it…
Ach what a pointless waste
and we never learn :(
So is your comment have some respect if nothing else. They fought for this generation and for lives and put themselves on the line.
@@maggiehattie No, these people were killed for literally no reason. Horrible pointless deaths because of cruel incompetent leaders
@@maggiehattie sorry my mistake, wrong war. This is the ww2 🙈
I'm not entirely sure why Nolan bothered his bollox. Thats not a criticism. Nor is it an indictment. I'm just not sure why he bothered.

Are you for real. The Germans bombed everything that moved
