Seneca’s letters have become very popular. I’m in Alaska and local bookstores sold out, online bookstores seem to be sold out; I’m basically on a waitlist on Amazon for a new copy. I think the U of Chicago Press owes you a commission, or at least a thank-you card. 😄

Right now is such a building part of my life- within the span of 2 years, I lost my father, had a horrible car crash, failed out of my first year of college, and got diagnosed with adhd (and am finally getting adequate help for it!!). I’m back in school and still struggling but I’m actually getting back up when I fall, and asking for help. I still feel super stuck most times but the biggest thing I’ve seen with these experiences is that the issues you want fixed most can only be healed with time. If you accept the situation you’re in to an extent, you are able to slowly make it better without even realizing it. I have hope that I can succeed, and I know whoever is reading this can have that hope too. Bad things happen, life can be so overwhelming and unpredictable, but getting up every day and trying to be kind and make a positive impression on someone is the biggest part.

All suffering really is internal, isn't it? I think it takes a lot of courage to stand face to face with this fact. It's facing the fact that it's on us to go inwards and shift our thoughts and viewpoints

I needed this “last puzzle piece” to finish ~this~ “map” of my introspections I have been trying for the longest to complete… to “finally KNOW what to do or where to go”.
I felt lost for a while and kept “waiting” for things to present themselves so I can act on them. By acting on them I would finally “embark on a path”
But like you said in the beginning, I can see how in this “stand still” I have actually let myself be still
And the excuses of “oh I’m healing, oh I need a sign, oh this and that”… I am already over it.
I watched the movie “Soul” for the first time yesterday. Its message and your piece finally hammered in the root
I’ve always heard of it but only now has it profoundly resonated. The answer lies within. It’s how we look at things and that can always change
    Thank you!

Ignorance is not an acceptable justification.
If wrongdoers might be genuinely ignorant, excusing their actions will only encourage more unacceptable behavior. Should they escape blameworthy? Therefore, neither they nor we are responsible for anything.
Rationalizing is also a defense mechanism an attempt to find reasons for behaviors, especially one’s own. Hard to make sense if they acted because they could because they are worse than us or due to factors outside their control.
We cannot avoid things from happening, what is not beyond our control is our action, desire, and willingness to reach out and help. As human beings, we should always try to change and improve whatever situation we find intolerable/unacceptable. Not to attack try to convince or diminish the other with lies, hate and violence.
Global warming, war, slavery, human trafficking, domestic violence the most atrocious, unspeakable human experience, leaves physically and emotionally wounded, unforgivable/unforgettable human environment, appalling conditions circumstances in which trust to negotiate is warranted, making an effort to make things better to work and inform even the most ignorant. We become better due to facts that we take responsibility to improve everyone’s life, not turning a blind eye and staying silent or by walking away hoping if, we improve ourselves internally, things will get better.

I think we all somehow make our lives more difficult than they really are. I read somewhere that our brains love problems, and it’s part of our nature. When we don’t have problems, we often look for them, and then we try to fix everything. On the other hand, we don’t like to feel bad. In the end, I think we should give ourselves the opportunity to not feel good. We should allow ourselves to experience our anger and the full spectrum of our emotions, letting them be present, recognizing them, and being there for them. It’s our inner child seeking our attention.❤

its been so long. I am in your hands, please guide me along the way. Please show me what the other side looks like. free me from my miseries and show me the higher things, show me truth which is bigger than myself. May i stop putting this off. may i fight my battle, today. may i not forget that there is purpose and beauty even in the worst difficulties. may nothing stop me in my way. Have mercy on me, for we are mortal, and one day we must give account on your Son's presence, of what we have done with our being. Help me to stop complaining. may i not feel hopeless, may i aways remember that i have a purpose as a human being and as a man. Allow me to follow it, and let my mind rest when faced with that which i cannot change.

The problem with the analogy of children not knowing any better and us not being angry about it, is that children then don't get to enforce their world view on us via. an election (if I'm reading the slant correctly). One of course must start with oneself, but I think it would be naive to not be (for example) angry at the election of the Nazi party. Adult views have real world consequences which one can be on the wrong or right side of.

Great video. What are your thoughts on wilful ignorance though? When someone who is presented with facts - empirical evidence - but then dismisses those facts because they don't align with their worldview. I always feel that such people know deep down that they are in the wrong, but still choose to ignore the truth. To me that's not a belief system, but an agenda of sorts.

By chance have you ever read The Courage To Be Disliked by Ichiro Kishimi? It would be interesting to hear your thoughts on it and how it intersects or not with your current understanding and view of philosophy.

I certainly agree with your share and suggestions.
    "my two cents"
My guess is, that you must grown up in a relative secure environment. I mean, compassionate and loving parents which have treated you full heartedly and with respect, despite their individual imperfections. If it's the case, that would explain your World view, obviously it's tied to the mindset too.
In my case I did experience different kinds of human behaviors, or personalities. It's tied to my upbringing and it was full on filled with insecurities and cruel / ill minded behavior. Unfortunately it's because of generational trauma.
I am sure you had something equally to fight with, from the feeling side, just a different set of challenges.
My guess is, lack of availability since my assumption goes that you had high achieving parents.
In my case it was the opposite, it was too controlling and micromanaging and violent, though very available and physical also, in the sense of love.
Both extremes bring a different set of challenges. Also a different Pain/Reward situation.
I guess if I had a little bit of what you had and you a little bit of what I had. We would probably wouldn't catch up here on TH-cam under these circumstances.
If i am totally mistaken, feel free to call me out and I will show Humility. (i am not all knowing, just a good guesser)
Almost forgot, your video motivated me to "finally" get my TH-cam Channel started. Very appreciative from my end!

Please take this point of disagreement in the right spirit (I am a huge fan of your channel): I disagree with your metaphor of attempting to see adults as just misguided children, because 1) Children do not have the powers to damage our lives as adults do. For example, children cannot overturn or seriously disrupt our freedoms, government, or way of life. 2) A child's ignorance is not their own fault. But an adult who persists in ignorance, despite correction, despite the availability of information, should not have our sympathies, in my view. Thanks for reading.
