Brother, I’m 68 years old, been married to the same woman for 44 years. You speak truth here. What I think that God has shown me is that we need a Graybeard Society in the world today. 45-46 years ago I thought I was a badass running with Special Forces and keeping up. I’m paying for that to this day in a body that got beat to crap. I still know what I knew then but I’ve since learned that there is always a bigger badass. It’s called life. God has humbled me.

Whats sad is companies don't understand that. I was an industrial maintenance tech for over 20 years. Worked on cnc machines. Whenever I started at the first company, there was an old man that was on the team. He was maybe 70. Yes was slower than he used to be but he was a kind old man and super intelligent. He didn't know me at all and immediately offered to help me whenever I needed it. They fired him because they said he couldn't do the job anymore in a timely manner. Instead of keeping him and making him a supervisor or trainer, they fired him. A few months later we heard he died. I guess he felt he had no purpose. Still makes me angry to this day.

Just turned 69, good luck finding a young man nowadays that will heed advice. I have sons and grandsons that break my heart watching them struggle because they think they know more than they do and will not take advantage of the experience of wisdom. So the last stage is realizing you have done all you can do. But thinking back i and everyone i knew was much the same. No matter who tries to help and teach, the hard knocks seems to be the greatest teacher in the end. Im at the watching and shaking my head stage.

I sympathise, but I also think sometimes people have to learn from experience. Like every young man that’s ever breathed, I did stupid things when I was young. Often you have to make the mistakes to learn from them, especially if you are young, arrogant, and full of testosterone

Easily sharing wisdom in order to strengthen the resilience of young people and help bring up younger generations is frowned upon in this culture. It's a big money grab and the more ignorant they keep young people the easier they are to prey upon 😢

Spot on Dwayne! 66 years old. And not sure what my purpose is anymore. I feel lonely and forgotten. Spend most of my days alone, seems nobody has any time for me anymore. Spent 35 years keeping watch over and protecting my community. (LEO) now it’s like nobody even knows me. I’m a believer and lover of CHRIST so hopefully I’m on that narrow road.

It's your job to find re-purpose. Teach. Volunteer. Run for office. Start a business. If you don't, you're an oxygen consuming, walking corpse just waiting to tip over dead.

    • @devinbartley5768
      @devinbartley5768 11 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +4

I'd recommend volunteering for your community or if you can't find a volunteer organization that's a good fit for you, start your own non profit or initiative to champion values that you think are important. Your experience in law enforcement will really contribute to your knowledge of what work is important. It takes time and patience to find the right non profit that you fit with so don't get discouraged if people arnt looking for help or if you find organizations you don't like, eventually you will find something if you put yourself out there.
And id reframe what you are doing. You arnt retired, you are financially independent. Now you get to do whatever work makes you satisfied and you can do it for low or no pay.
Hope this helps you find purpose and connection to community during these later years of your life and best of luck.

I try to find things that bring me joy and that helps a little for example: I like to go walk the beach, and look for cool rocks, agates, etc. I'm a little drive from the coast, so I don't get out as much as I'd like. I think some people can struggle with retirement. Is there something that you enjoy doing that you could do as a volunteer? Thanks again for all of your hard work.

Hi Dewayne, Boone was my greatest teacher during my time on the ranch. Riding with him taught me so much about myself and my masculinity, showing me the value of sitting up straight and relaxing, even when every part of me wanted to push harder. The old man’s steadfast desire to challenge himself reflected ways I’ve pushed myself-often more than my body needed.
That experience and this video brought to mind a powerful quote:
    > "If you rely mainly on your will power, you will develop your ability to strain and become accustomed to applying an enormous amount of force to actions that can be carried out with much less energy, if it is properly directed and graduated. Both these ways of operating usually achieve their objective, but the former may also cause considerable damage. Force that is not converted into movement does not simply disappear, but is dissipated into damage done to joints, muscles, and other sections of the body used to create the effort. Energy not converted into movement turns into heat within the system and causes changes that will require repair before the system can operate efficiently again."
I’m grateful for the time on the ranch and for the lessons Boone taught me. Thank you for providing such a space of learning and growth.
Blessings to the family. God bless you all.

My old cow horse, Chester, is stiff and kinda gimpy from old age and the tiniest bit of founder, but I don’t dare retire him. He loves to go on trail rides and munch grass. He gets saddled and starts to bronc, not because he’s trying to get out of work but because he’s so excited to get some real exercise. Like your Boon, my Chester has earned a retirement. He’s the first horse I ever trained, but he taught me a lot too, and he has the patience of a saint.

“We need to celebrate not being the man that we used to be-because we are now the man that we are.” Truly deep and insightful. Reminds me of that one bible verse:
“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”
    1 Corinthians 13:11

I have an older brother but he made my life hell in the time I needed him the most.
Had a friend who I looked up to like a brother but he passed away. He wasn’t perfect and was a bad influence on me. But most importantly, he didn’t hurt me like my older brother did.
My dad is my dad. He’s cool but at the time I needed him the most, he would rather be with his church friends and drink. His dad wasn’t in his life, so it affected my upbringing. He’s cool now.
I’m now of age, leaving my 20s. This channel definitely gives me older brother advice I need. Wish I discovered this channel sooner. Idk if you’ll see this but thanks for life advice. I wish my older brother was like this. I can’t change that though. Tough luck.

I've noticed that modern society treats me at 46 years old who spent 8 years in combat as a young man, now a master plumber, like I should be able to work like a twenty-year-old. It just doesn't work that way. One person can't be the leader and productive labor at the same time effectively. They want it all in one package. I became a truck driver and those people treated me like I was five. Crazy world full of strange perspectives we live in these days

I struggled with this a lot after watching it. A lot of unfair things happen to us all in this world. Easy to end up bitter. But it seems like we've all made our share of mistakes and have been helped by others, creating a debt. Teaching the youth, especially in today's complicated world, seems like the right thing to do. Hard to know which lessons would get you cancelled or what environment would be a good one to teach in (not a classroom for me). But overall, it seems like the right thing to do.

I learned nothing from him might sound harsh but i hardly saw him. I learnt to shave from a magazine I have six sisters. No role model to teach me how to be a man. Just grew up around women. Couldn't express my Masculinity until my early twenties. Started working on cars then i moved onto horses. Mostly groom them, ive travelled through central asia as well. Taught myself to hunt to make fires and camp. It was very hard for me. There was no one i read books and now we have men like you. I got to learn more, well i taught myself enough you know You can be as mad as a mad dog at the way things went, you can curse the fates, but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.

Although there are more aches and pains than I had in my 20's, I'm glad I'm not the man I used to be. Not to say that I'm sagacious, and not that I don't miss being able to run a half marathon whenever I wanted to, but I'm fundamentally a different person than I was, now that I'm in my 40's. I would not have been a very good husband or father at 21, but a couple of decades of lumps and hard lessons helped to temper me into a more well-rounded individual; more patient, more thoughtful, kinder, and more understanding of others.

Regardless of chronological age. Every Man has his own Seasons in life. You’re right…that life is stages. Some Folks my age are playing with their Grand Children. They must have started early. Anyways my Jackson, Tennessee Girlfriend Jessica passed away from Heart troubles at age 31. And I am still raising my Pre-Teens got them both into Horses & can out work young Men half my age. Raised on a Ranch & Holy Ghost power. “But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.”
    (Matthew 19:26 KJV)

TEACHING YOUNGSTERS AND YOUNG PEOPLE TO OVERCOME FEAR IS A CHALLENGE. MY KIDS ARE 33 AND 31. I MADE EVERY ATTEMPT TO NOT TEACH THEM EVERYTHING. IN STEAD I PUT THEM ON A MISSION TO "FIGURE IT OUT" TO ACCOMPLISH WHAT THEY WERE TRYING TO DO. I KEPT CONSTANT OVERSIGHT BUT NEVER LET THEM GET HURT. WORKED OUT WELL. THEY BOTH ARE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR OWN RIGHT AND I NEVER GET THE "DADDY I NEED BLAH BLAH BLAH" CALL.

At my job, I am a go-to guy because I can do the job of 2-3 20-year-olds. When things start hurting, I tell myself that is not more than I can take, and I start pushing myself even harder. However, it comes at a great physical cost.
I have been saying for awhile that these kids will be replacing me sooner rather than later.

It's tough when you're a younger man who had catastrophic injuries take the strength and toughness out of you. Before you were able to learn what the old men know. So you can easily fall into the bitterness of not being to be what you once were... And also never being able to realize what you could have been even then.

Several years ago, my father and I took a road trip down south. He was in his early 80s then and one of the things he wanted to do was go to the Okefenokee swamp down in Georgia. He told me we could get a boat ride, not on one of those air boats with the big fan on the back but on an electric boat which was quiet so we could sneak up on alligators. I told him I didn't think sneaking up on an alligator was such a good idea as our alligator wrestling days were long behind us.
