So this is about one of Bladed's points, buying obscure cars to be cool. My dad recently bought an E36 M3 because he had a couple when he was younger, and wants them again. The previous owner told him that someone wanted to buy that E36 for their TEEN SON. He said that he wasn't gonna sell it to him, even though he was offering a pretty high price to buy the car. He knew that the kid couldn't take care of the car, so he didn't sell it to him.

This is definitely true in the truck community. Dudes spending 5 times what their early 2000s Chevy 1500 cost on American Forces and then slapping a big decal that is half the size of their rear window.
Yeah, a lot of people does that. But Bladed Angel clearly don't know that much about the physics behind cars. Because decreasing the weight of the wheels isn't so much about decreasing the overall weight of the car, but first and foremost to decrease the weight of the unsprung mass. So yeah, you can easily reduce the overall mass of the car by removing sound deadening, removing the spare wheel and a lot of other ways that you would decrease the weight more then if you only put on forged wheels. But your unsprung mass will still be the same, with all the disadvantaged that will give you. So lighter wheels will make your car handle better, accelerate better, it will also be more comfortable and it will also reduce wear and tear on the suspension. And those are benefits that you will experience in you daily driver as well as you track day car, even if it's debatable how noticeable that benefit will be. But if it's worth it, well that's another matter. So I don't completely disagree with Bladed Angel overall assessment, but he missed the point about weight saving.
It's funny how being an enthusiast these days is already a money trap as it is lmao. But yeah, alot of new enthusiasts are missing the point. RIGHT??? And you'll get a much more noticeable gain in performance. Forged Wheels are deadass the last mod people should be doing on their build. Where they've already stripped their interior, deleted the back seats, added Carbon Fiber everywhere and are like, "Well fuck I guess it's time to finally lose weight on wheels". Like I fully understand why a track car would get Forged Wheels. Every single pound counts to them and also the strength of Forged is very noticeable after endurance sessions. But even short Auto-crossing or Drag Race events taht most car guys do, we're fine with just normal Cast Wheels or Flow Formed Wheels. Like Flow Formed is so underrated, and such a good budget middle ground!

When it comes to wheels, I feel like my limit is going to be two maybe three grand for a complete set, 10 K is too much, and twice the value of my car...
5:00 This was kind of my dilemma, as I really love the lotus evora 400 S, then people started buying them like crazy, realizing that it isn't what they wanted or crashing them, letting them sit, and then the value goes up. 3 years ago when I couldn't afford it, they were 30-40k on the used market. This year, I could've afforded it, but the same years are going for 50-60k, newer ones even 100k+. Super frustrating.
Same for me I’m 15 and having to keep changing what car I want because I everything I want is getting to expensive like for example the 930 turbo they used to be 30 now there over 100
Wheel weight is important because it’s rotational mass but even with that in mind you’re still right. Their cost is hard to justify for your usual car enthousiast.
Your point about the VR4’s was complete spot on- not only has it driven prices up but another side effect has been that the reputation of the VR4’s in the reliability aspect has been dragged down by shitty mods and terrible owners. Hell, half the reason why the aftermarket support isn’t there is because the majority of owners can’t even afford to buy nice aftermarket parts for their car.
So many good points in this one. Overall: don't buy something for clout. It never works. "Oh, you have a Land Rover? I thought it was a Ford Explorer." Even the Top Gear guys said it about the DB9, "just wait a couple years for the F-type. They'll have fixed all the bugs and charge half as much." And I also agree on buying property first. Even a warehouse can be secured well enough to store your car stuff. (i.e. Jay Leno's garage)

+1 for getting a garage first. Also like your advice on making sure you can take care of the "cool car" you buy. I bought my 95 M3 with a lot of issues for 4500 bucks. I'm probably into it for another 7k now but I've made it nice enough that now it want to nip its couple of rusty spots in the bud. Goodbye more money! Not modding for a while seems like good advice for newer cars, but I got a lowered suspension out the gate with my M3 since it had 3 blown shocks and 2 broken springs...
Damn bro, that actually helped me. I was that dude who wanted to get some forged wheels because of the look of em. Imma see about a cheaper option with a similar look
Yknow as a noob enthusiast I’m really glad to have found this channel before making too many of my own mistakes cause a lot of this advice is really helpful
The idea behind forged wheels is that your losing the weight that matters most, the weight that directly is in touch with the road and the weight that has an effect on your drivetrain, there's a reason why an old Alfa Romeo had the brakes on the sides of the transmission at the front and at the sides of the rear differential, it was to remove weight from the far end of the drivetrain, causing less wear and made the car also more agile if i don't remember wrong, however that is the only car that i know of to have that style of braking system and it was very expensive to design and build, likely. I'm not going to go full on engineer on the specifics of it but yeah, there is an actual benefit for having lighter wheels and it makes more of a difference overall than having weight off of the rest of the car. Drivetrains are very, very inefficient to begin with anyway, the loss to simple friction stacks up quite fast when you start thinking that how many parts the power goes through and then you multiply that by the fact is it a four wheel drive or a two wheel drive and is it a FWD or RWD, is it a FR, FF, MR, RR car et cetera.
I could not possibly agree with your 2nd point any more if I wanted to.. you literally explained your entire argument genuinely flawlessly. I back it 1M% thank you for taking that much time to explain it.
6:00 that's where I might have to disagree. Rotating mass is roughly 300% harder to accelerate than unsprung weight. This means if you were to drop the 5 pounds listed in your example, you would actually be losing an equivalent to 60 lbs. I do, however, agree that forged wheels are incredibly expensive and buying them is (for the most part) somewhat unnecessary. That being said, build your car to be YOURS and Merry Danksgiving!
Hi Bladed! I know you've seen me bouncing around your comment section, but I think you should know that I'm only 13. When you were talking about the "future generation of enthusiasts" and there dream cars, I felt very called out. I completely agree. My dream car 1969 mustang boss 302, and I constantly see the prices go up. Collectors keep them in their garages ( of course they never get driven) and all that does is make the price go up. I've seen these beauties abandoned broken beyond repair. It really kinda pisses me off. I only have 1 shot at getting my dream car, and I might miss it because of my lack of money and age. That's my rant
I was looking at the 3000GT VR4 a while ago, but my brother has 6 magazine cover cars, cover car of the year and a concourse win under his belt and we have all the facilities to take care of something unusual
good points. on the wheels, i got a fancy set of them for my CLS63 just because they looked really nice and elevated the aesthetics of it by a ton. and i dont even give a shit what others think about it lol
There are a lot of dual abbreviations so it’s acceptable, most people argue whether it means actually buying a Japanese car vs a Japanese manufacturers car
You saved me over 3k! Very good points on PPF as much as I hate rock chips it's not worth it. I just ordered a Camaro SS 1LE. Was on the fence about PPF you convinced me that's a bad idea since I don't even know if I'll even have the car in 5 to 7 years.
My friends consider me "quirky and unique" because even though I'm a car enthusiast, having a running Honda Accord will never not be my #1 priority. I talk up my Accord as though it were a V12 Lambo. In fact, if I had a V12 Lambo, I could sell it and buy like 10 more Accords.
Are you half the population of my town? You could see almost every gen of accord at least twice before you make it to the other side of town, all running of course.
Don’t forget to mention on the third point about the whole mindset on getting forged wheels is due to rotational mass. Not just simple mass sitting in the vehicle. I would’ve preferred to see a light weight driveshaft and possibly even a lightened flywheel. Both are vastly cheaper, will probably be better in the long run to be honest with you, and they both directly benefit the engines effective output and rev characteristics.
9:07 Even more true on the west coast. Housing prices are going up a lot. We got the house we live in for 350,000 and now, 6 years later and a bit of remodeling, it's probably close to 500 grand. We got lucky with the house being 350k in 2014.
6:20 so I would actually like to defend the forged wheel bois. The difference between static mass and rotational mass are completely different. Those 10-15 lbs of weight savings on rotational mass = better mpg’s, faster acceleration, and shorter braking distance.
As a Trailblazer owner I can relate to owning an obscure car with a 1 off engine design. I love the look of it but getting replacement parts can be annoying. Not the biggest deal but it’s still annoying
I really wanted to buy a 3000gt here and I couldn’t find any until I bought my 03 986, I’m still happy with my purchase but I probably would’ve chosen the 3000gt over it
I'm 14 and one of my dream cars is a 1985 Toyota Celica Supra because I love the pop up lights, the inline-six and the 5 speed manual transmission that some models have. I've always dreamed of owning one. My brother got his hands on one in a nice Super White color and wrecked it within a month and it hurt me to see that happen.
At 4:37 . Means a shit load to me . Wise words bladed . Your content on fire . Not literally but metaphorically 😂😂😂😂 . Keep it up and I will keep sitting on my ass watching you 😂😂
the thing about the super cars depreciating, i dont really agree in some cases. if your holding the car as an investment, yes i agree with what you said. but if you have the car to enjoy driving, and to have fun with, then i dont really think worrying about the depreciation matters much.
Good video, but I would like to point out that reducing unsprung mass is not equivalent to sprung mass, as you implied saying that getting forged wheels is the same as a back seat delete. Reducing unsprung weight helps increase tire contact and has many handling implications beyond increasing acceleration (and even then it gives a much better ratio for pounds lost to acceleration).
New viewer, you have some good content! I followed this advice (obviously hadn’t seen the video yet) for modding my car, waited 4 months and built up a supply of mods and had a week I installed everything. +1 subscriber
Im 14 and my dream car is a fd rx-7 and i just get sad seeing them sky rocket in price because people sell them for too much and just lock them away and don't drive them, Thank you for talking about that.
In regards to your last point. If you’re buying a new car, DO NOT mod it for at least a year. I usually don’t mod a new car for 1-2 years after purchasing it because I want to ensure the car is as reliable as possible after I just spent a large sum of money on it & I want to ensure I still have a valid warranty. The most I will do is put new wheels on it, but I don’t dare touch the suspension or exhaust or try to tune. The absolute most reliable state that your car can be in is when it is still factory stock, just remember that.
Sprung weight is VERY different than unsprung weight. The 10lbs+ of weight saved on the wheels is equivalent (performance wise) to MUCH more sprung weight.

You’re second point made so much sense. I am 18 and was In a situation to buy my dream car which was a S2000 but they got so expensive I couldn’t afford a clean one and ended up buying a fiesta ST instead.
To many people crash s2000s.
For the price of a set of forged wheels, i can put a supercharger in my challenger. And then some.
And worst, some so called Forged wheels are actually heavier than a factory wheel
Forged wheels luckily came on my skyline when they were a factory option
Bladed Angel: Buy house before exotic car
Stradman: Gallardo go bbrrrbrbrbrrrr
10lb off the wheels is less unsprung weight tho, good increase to comfort and the suspensions ability to be a suspenion
Sauce of your pfp.
Bladed angel: you should buy a property first
thestradman is typing......
read the pinned message, James already has a place too, he is about to have a home built right now, he has the revenue to have a house and right now he does, stradman shouldn't be fucked with for that because he is extremely careful with his money so you can get the content you get from him, he is cheap and I think you know that by now
When it comes to wheels, I feel like my limit is going to be two maybe three grand for a complete set, 10 K is too much, and twice the value of my car...
Hey man i agree with everything especially the "gatekeeping" exept the fact that forged wheels are often for reducing *UNSPRUNG WRIGHT*
I actually really like how bladed doesn’t have an intro and just gets right into it
Y'know, I gotta give it to you, you're a great source of information: always cuts to the chase, straight to the point, etc. Great job.
They'll have fixed all the bugs and charge half as much."
And I also agree on buying property first. Even a warehouse can be secured well enough to store your car stuff. (i.e. Jay Leno's garage)
before I started watching your TH-cam videos I thought that I was a car inthusiest. But once I started to watch a lot more of your videos I realized that I am definitely not but I will be whenever I am able to drive
God the quirky car point hits different once you own one. I see so many people buy SVXs and get angry for people not giving them attention and some go to the lengths of scrapping the car because they never bothered to research what kind of work they need to stay on the road
I’ve seen abandoned gtr (r32-34) many on them in rows. Rotting away in fields
Better than seeing them carrying 1000hp for no good reasons
Ok, I've got to know where.. Please
@@dieguitoskullito it’s some where in Japan if you look it up it comes up. It’s a shame that these cars have been rotting away. I’d love to drive/maintain one.

Rule Nr6:
Dont buy parts you don't need, just because of the 10% off on black friday... dont bite the bait
Unless it’s something that you will eventually need
you are saving 10%, why not to buy? It's like TV - you don't really need to upgrade it, but the discounts are good, so people will buy it.
10:08 “Every time it rains it rains on it” Ah yes, floor is made out of floor

I want your opinion. I know that JDM stands for japanese domestic market but I think it should also mean japanese dream machines. What do you think?
Not gonna lie that's a good opinion
There are a lot of dual abbreviations so it’s acceptable, most people argue whether it means actually buying a Japanese car vs a Japanese manufacturers car
@@erikwithak6555 JDM literally means Japanese Domestic Market, so a car from Japan. Its not debatable so people shouldn't be arguing about it.
2:32 I am laughing out loud at 11 PM

Even more true on the west coast.
Those 10-15 lbs of weight savings on rotational mass = better mpg’s, faster acceleration, and shorter braking distance.

the thing about the super cars depreciating, i dont really agree in some cases. if your holding the car as an investment, yes i agree with what you said. but if you have the car to enjoy driving, and to have fun with, then i dont really think worrying about the depreciation matters much.
+1 subscriber

hey man thanks for posting this. tip #5 actually gave me some new insight. im gonna buy my 1st car soon and that last tip actually helps a lot
Man woke up and chose logic
