- 4 Signs You're Maturing As a Car Enthusiast...What marks your maturity as a Veteran Car Enthusiast? A Faster Car? Your Skill at Driving? Your ability to work on cars? Or the literal years you’ve spent as a Car Enthusiast? Perhaps, it’s deeper than that, or perhaps it’s not deep at all, but rather the opposite. It’s so simple, but most people fail to grasp that simplicity as they live in their stubbornness, or unbeknownst to themselves, have already grasped that simplicity and matured accordingly, they just don’t know how to put it into words. In this video, I’ll tell you my personal journey as an Car Enthusiast. Rejecting Brand Loyalty
It’s great to keep an open mind, try out as many brands as possible, see the strengths and weaknesses. I’m not saying to love every brand, but for crying out loud, love more than just 1, 2, or just Domestic vs. Imports. The amount of brains I’ve made fail to function by saying, “I respect Tuners and Muscle”

I currently like to treat Motorcycling as a "break" from clout culture and just ride to enjoy myself. Not to get views, so again, it's likely y'all may only see my bikes in the background as passing memories and never as a dedicated mainstay.

Number one sign you’re maturing is, you find yourself appreciating all sorts of different cars for different reasons. Not being toxic, and finding yourself loving cars for the cars themselves not others opinions or what’s better than another.
Seems like you yourself reached peak maturity in this field of hobby.
Your last point about not caring about people's expectation kinda hits home as someone who constantly worries about what other people think.

Everytime I try and talk to anyone about trying to start modding my car everyone tells me to just get something else and not waste my money but they keep bringing up other cars that cost a lot or harder to get cars and they don’t realize I truly like the platform of my car

I got a 4 door for that exact reason. There were plenty of other coupes on the market then. I wanna see the look on their faces when my 350hp 'pos' is infinitely more fun then their stock infinity g35.
More doors = longer wheelbase and thats better imo.
You have anxiety? Try not to stress about it. I know that’s easier said than done, but don’t get too caught up. It’s fine to hear others and consider what they say, just don’t let them control you.
I love this mentality. I've got a bright green Ford Fiesta, and being my first car I was worried about the mods I was doing to it because I didn't think people would like it.
But nah, I've just stopped caring. It's got about 15 stickers on the rear window, two being Forza PI stickers because why the fck not 😂 in fact, I've seen more people saying they like them than thinking they're bad

4 resonated with me very much. I always wanted a really flashy car but now a days a MK4 Golf is what does it for me. You learn to appreciate things other than a price tag and a spec sheet. Once you get rid of that feeling of "I have to have the best" life in general is so much more enjoyable. Learn what makes you happy not others, and if that's the high price tag and crazy digits on the spec sheets then be it but not everyone can do it and people should really learn that being humble will take you a good distance in life all together.

Take care of your mk4 man. I couldn’t do it because I had no idea about cars back then so I jumped ship. But it was a great car when it worked. I always smile when I see a happy mk4 drive by or parked on the road looking clean.

I had a few B5 A4s and first gen TTs in my very early 20s, and always bailed due to oddball 1.8t issues.
I am now 31 and recently acquired an 18 golf tsi with a smashed roof due to a deer strike.
My students and I got the car up to daily driving duty and I currently commute it 2hrs a day in horrid rural conditions.
This car has completely reinvigorated my interest in the brand and now I’m very excited to get back into a 2000s VW/Audi project soon. Also, now that I’m a bit older, vagcom and the newer options for diag aren’t nearly as intimidating as they felt back in the day. Food for thought.

I do have a minor update for those interested in Mk7+ car ownership: I’ve done my best to get used to it over the past 6 months, but the stability control system in this thing is an absolute nightmare. From everything i understand, you cannot turn it all the way off because of the electronic diff. Obviously it happens much worse with spirited driving but even just a small sandy spot in the road will force the outside front tire to nearly lock when driving normal speeds. I don’t know about you, but struggling to keep the car from a guardrail or out of a ditch shouldn’t be a regular occurrence, when my older cars run the same mountains 20mph faster with no hiccups.
I read on the forums that you can turn the sensitivity down on one of the accelerometers and that should negate the issues. Downside is the car is more prone to wheel hop and breakage, but poly control arm bushings and motor mounts fixes that easily.

I work at the DMV and constantly “car-spot” in peoples records. It is really fun to just casually ask someone if they still have their Isuzu I Mark and listen to them getting all excited and talking about their car while I do their title work or renewals. I have learned to appreciate so many vehicles far outside of my usual tastes just from watching my tired, cranky customers suddenly light up to tell me all about their car. I have learned so much just from plopping VINs into my decoder, learning a bit about the car in my free time, and keeping my eyes peeled for it again in the future.
Should check if your coworkers are also car folks!

I have a DMV story from a few years ago. While paying sales tax on my 1991 Acura, DMV lady told me I overpaid for such an old car. She looked at me at complete disgust that I paid $24k for an NSX. I told her I really liked the cocaine white interior. She said, "I hope it included actual cocaine." She was awesome.

For me the sign of maturing is understanding that there is no objectively best car. Every car has its own quirks and stuff, and that's nice.

For me, it was growing up from liking stance and rocket bunny kits, into the early 2000’s tuning I grew up with, aka „ricing”. Early 2000’s bodykits, neons, TVs in trunks rock.
Those cars from the early 2000s have so much charm. It’s what I grew up with too and I love them. I think they’re not ricers tho I think it’s just older style. I think rivers are people who use crappy eBay or Autozone parts that serve no purpose

Brand loyalty almost cost me a 10 year friendship lol. A guy I’ve known since high school got an F80 M3 last year & it transformed him into the biggest, most vengeful BMW fanboy ever. He single-handedly turned our groupchat into a toxic place because he felt personally attacked any time someone spoke highly of another car. I finally had to tell him that BMW doesn’t give a shit about him or his used M3 😂

That last point hit me hard. In high school I loved supercars and went all over to see all that I could and take pictures of them. My group of friends all ended up getting mustangs and I had this expectation to buy one too. In college it was the same thing, all of my friends drove manual sports cars and I had a CVT Sentra and I felt so behind. When searching for a car I looked at so many sports cars and unreliable or otherwise broken weird cars that I'd adore to drive but couldn't afford or it wouldn't be practical for me. I wanted to impress everyone and fit in and finally I had to let go and I ended up buying a 1997 Honda Accord with a manual and it's been so much fun and I love it. I've learned to fix things, I've learned to drive a manual, and I've learned to respect cars even more than I did before when driving a slow CVT economy car. Not worrying about what others think is so important and it was the hardest thing for me to get over but getting over it is so worth it and now my friends still hang out with me and love the car. It's even more practical so we can all ride together in it
That's awesome man. I was also the same liking super/ hyper cars but then I started using my mom's 2007 Mercury Mountaineer Premier v6 AWD. It wasn't a fast suv with a big engine. But it had nice quirks here and there that made me fall in love with it. I appreciated that car cause it taught me a lot. I can't wait till I buy my own car one day
I own a 2005 Corolla LE. It's a manual.
It has new coilovers, new brakes and new tires..
Slow car but handles well.
Eventually I want to put a 2zz in it and get it repainted. But that's the journey.
Having a slice of humble pie is definitely the biggest change someone can make. I felt scared of what others would think when I took a step back and downgraded my car but you just gotta do what's best for you and nobody else really cares anyway
I always said to myself I wanted a used 3 series but I mean as a person going to college, I need something reliable and good on fuel to get me to and from class, and I’ve really liked the corolla and civic, don’t know which one to get yet but definitely will be choosing between the two
The section about the Supercub is exactly how I feel about my BRZ. It isn't fast and it definitely has it's problems but it's by far my favorite car out there and it makes me so happy seeing people have the same passion about literally anything.
I've definitely done the first I used to be very brand loyal but just growing up and maturing in the car community has made me like other brands and cars I used to hate for no reason
I started with Honda and i can see why people have the heard mentality and wanna defend their brand. so many people thought Honda is peak auto tech and other said Honda = lawnmower!! I'm just glad i got a Honda prelude because even with the Honda crowed they didnt really like it, so i was the black sheep with the Honda Bois. Which helped me with learning about others brands. my next car was a classic 280zx shit box and then followed by a Volvo V70. I feel so blessed to get exposed to all of these cars. I still get civic guys saying civics are the best. I am just waiting to get a nice Peugeot or a c30 and showing other beautiful hot hatches do.

My mother was a gearhead who loved mustangs in her youth and she had a huge appreciation for cars like Volvo station wagons and VW hatchbacks so naturally I grew up loving anything with an engine and wheels and my first engine was a cheap quad that was imported from China lol this was 20 or so years ago
I love this story. Ur mom has great taste. I would get an 80s Volvo 240 wagon but with the prices of those now I can almost get my absolute dream car for the price of one of those so If ima spend that much money it’s not gonna be on a 240. I do still want a V70 tho cuz they’re dirt cheap

im in the same boat in terms of the expectations but the fact is is that i dont even have my first "fun" car yet, its been eating at me that all my car friends have their fun cars and i dont yet and only have my daily driver. yes im only 17 i know but i just feel behind and stuff but your little speel about it has really helped me with this so thank you.
Yo people talk a lot of shi on chevy cruze reliability but odds are if you are on this channel you know how to maintain a car and won't have issues.
I got mine for 2k$ at 90kmiles, 6speed manual, stock turbo sounds great with a simple air intake. I've had a lot of fun modifying this thing over the years personally. And after everything and the car purchase itself I'm only in for about 4,000$ 😊
It's nothing to brag about but it's a lot of fun and cheap as it gets.
And Imo it's a pretty good looking car for what it is 💪

Definitely. I was lucky enough to get an Autozam az-1 when they were pretty cheap. Most fun car I’ve ever driven, and I have a 911 gts.
Playing racing games and collecting diecast model cars has made love every type of vehicle for different reasons. My childhood was the McLaren F1, Jaguar XJ220, Jaguar XJR-15 and Lamborghini Diablo SV in Need for Speed 2 and 3 respectively, along with Gran Turismo 1, 2, 3 and 4 (eventually tried GT5). Somehow I came across the 2000 Toyota Celica a few years later to 2003 Cadillac Escalade and many others. Collecting diecast models of various car classes, James Bond, Fast and Furious made me love everything from muscle cars to tuners to super cars. In fact my first love began with supercars and later moved to tuner and muscle cars. I now have almost 200 model cars from many classes.

This was a good video! The part where you geeked out over a Super Cub was actually really heartwarming. I’d like to add that part of the fun of classic cars is the victorious “I’ve mended something!” feeling every time you start it after a repair. There’s definitely something to be said for knowing that in many ways you are the reason this car is still here and able to do car things. I know someone for whom that car is a perfectly-maintained 1990 Pontiac Sunbird, and when they take it to shows they get a mix of “Wow, I haven’t seen one of those that nice in forever” and “what a piece of junk,” but they’re preserving something that not many other people do and it makes them happy. I hope someday you can experience classic car ownership, I think you’d enjoy it :)
I just bought a relatively cheap V8 Vantage because I’ve always dreamed of owning an Aston. It wasn’t the most smartest decision (or was it? We’ll see in a few years), it’s not the fastest car for the money, it drinks fuel, I’ve gotten a lot of pushback for it from friends and family. But none of it matters, I got it for me and I love driving it, that’s all that matters in the end
If you got pushback from buying a V8 Aston Martin then that just proves that you can never please everyone. Always do what makes you happy

I think we've all gone through the stress of expectations. Even in the Honda world, I've felt that stress. I have a little 1991 Honda CRX HF that I brought back from the dead. It's got a rebuilt title, no clear coat, cracked paint, dents, a window that I can't roll down, and a climate control that's cracked to hell and back. But I love this little thing. Lots of people in the Honda world like to look down on the little SOHC D-series engines, and I've literally been laughed at because I chose to swap in a D16Z6 (original engine was blown) instead of a B or K series. But I've been learning to ignore such nonconstructive criticism. Instead, I look at the car and see something that most people would have just thrown away, and take pride in the fact that I made this little car road worthy again. No, it's not a fast car. No, it's not impressive to look at. But it gets 35MPG, and feels like a freaking go-cart with how low it sits to the ground. And that's all I need it to be. A fun little go-cart that can get me to work in these difficult times without breaking the bank. Besides, it's not like I can't clean it up more, and throw on some fresh paint when I'm ready to (in fact, I plan to do just that). At the end of the day, I don't recall anybody laughing at it being there beside me in the dirt, mud, and rain to fix it. So their opinions are moot.
Respect bro, bringing something back from the dead requires serious dedication. Even if it's not fast or perfect, the connection you feel to it is something I understand.

I completely agree about the R35 being an aging old dog with a hefty price tag. I thought the main reason for that was they don't have the money to develop a newer version right now? wasn't that one of the reasons why the 350z and 370z were so closely related, and it took so long to get the new Z34 fairlady? and same with the Z31 and 32 before getting the 350z? with that said they definitely can do a lot better, they've gotten pretty lazy with the Q60 which started off pretty good but has trailed off a bit, and the same thing is kinda happening with most of their lineup.
Also, I have a lot of respect for the super cub and what you said about it. same thing happened with me and my new bike. for while I was chasing a these high displacement standards. Bonnevilles, thunderbirds, W800s and I just took a deep breath, opened my options, and went with this fun little Royal Enfield Classic 350. it may not make much power, it may be overweight, but its the most fun I have had on a bike in a long time
350 enfield gang gang. I have meteor lol. One of the funniest bikes ive owned. Full pin throttle literally everywhere and still only go 75ish. I love its look a lot too.
@@BladedAngel the looks was the main reason I got the bike! im a sucker for that 60s-70s British standard style, and I love how many color options RE has. nearly had an existential crisis trying to pick which color to buy.
i really hope someday more manufactures start making more bikes like that with small and medium engines. I would do unspeakable things for Triumph to make a new TR6. that and I wish the TU250 would come back, and that we would get bikes like the W175 and the new CB350.
Yeah, while the R35 is definitely decent bang for buck, especially used, it's getting old. Really old. A C8 Vette is just as fast and much cheaper.

Tbh if i only use this video as preference for maturity, i am top tier since i was 4 years old. I just liked cars for what they were, and since my brother was into them i learned about thoose discrete or unknown sports cars fairly quickly like the Clio V6, wich seems like a riced clio until you realize it's actually mid engine RWD.

Only thing that has gotten better is my drive to understand the purpose that these machines are created for. Thats why the car in my pfp has grown on me uncontrollably in the last two years.
Dude, I'm so glad I stumbled across this video. That warm fuzzy feeling you get from the supercub is exactly the same feeling I have towards my 1969 beetle. It's slow and there's a brief moment of anxiety before I hit the key but the moment it starts it's like all of anxiety and stress of life just fade away and I get to enjoy this moment. This moment is my gift to me, nobody else.
Not that I'm a VW enthusiast by any stretch of the imagination or even a Beetle fanatic. I love and respect MY beetle but that's because of the emotional attachment I have with it.
My other car is a Mazda RX8. Not exactly fast either but it's the polar opposite to the Beetle. I can't see my life without either car. And yes I cop abuse from all sides about both cars but I don't care, I don't need them to understand. These are my cars, this is entirely my decision and I'm going to enjoy them in spite of those people. Both cars are still running on their original engines, tell me again why they're not reliable.

I love the fact you discovered the cub and it changed how viewed enthusiasm for cars and bikes, I currently own a classic mini and I'm doing all the work myself so imagine the smile when she finally cranked up and spluttered to life, take my sub!!!
Being a car enthusiast and realizing your newfound interest with bikes gives a different sense of freedom. I think it's safe to say we're all growing up here together. Ride safe out there and enjoy life my friend.
I’ve made a transition from a JDM fanboy(god I hate saying that now) to someone who can appreciate everything from Euro to Classic American Muscle. Like all cars are great, we just have to appreciate the work and time that people put into them and not make fun of them for their builds.
Not only are jdm fans toxic there are also muscle car fans who only prefer v8 and Europeans and jdm are shit and I've seen a lot of comments from muscle car fans like that there are also European fans like that too well my The point is that all car communities are toxic. I'm not saying they all are, but they are.
I really resonate with the brand loyalty part. I may like Honda quite a bit, (despite what track they're taking now but that's beside the point) but no brand is the best at everything.
The whole reason my V6 Accord is so great is because there were other V6 sedans by other brands that were better at some point.

I've grown from only liking lifted trucks to appreciating most cars or truck cultures. I've even started to daily a Miata to save on gas and this was a big part in learning to appreciate other car or truck cultures.

Been a BMW fanboy for a long time. At 42, I switched to a Mazda3 hatchback AWD. It's not a powerful car, but it's cheaper to maintain, gets good mpg, interior is probably the best for it's price point, it's 3200lbs and handles great with new P Zero UHP tires. It's just a fun practical car that you can use the power just about anywhere.
My timeline is more from dreamcar supercars from wall posters, to BMW M3 and Mustang fanboy, to classic muscle cars driving 79 Camaro/Trans Ams, and then Toyota trucks. When I got my first truck, I never went back to a car since. I just like a good, capable 4WD 4runner with good AT tires and my bike on that back and take my basketball everywhere.

I love Nissan GTR and I am not a 12 year old, I was a fan of it from the day it came out and whenever people talked crap about it I went fighting them but then I realised why do I like it. I like it because of the tech used in it. As I grew I realised Nissan GTR is not the only car with great tech and engineering behind it, I found out LFA is a technological marvel, more recently Lamborghini Sian and Mercedes AMG One. I also got to know Porsches are great track cars and are so fun to drive and these days I don't mind people talking crap about cars I love. I have realised no car can be perfect and it is important to know that the way I have favorites other people will theirs too and it is not necessary that people like the same car as you.
Once you are old enough to know that you have matured.
I never really liked skylines until the R35 GTR came out ( I'm 17, not 12), as it's such a technical marvel and a amazing bit of engineering which is why I like the Lexus LFA so much, not to mention the brilliant screech the V10 and the Yamaha exhaust make.
There are many great cars in variety of the games. You should try them all.
It’s a very good car, but it’s not for me. That’s the thing, a lot of guys see a car that is truly good, but they go out of their way to hate it in an attempt to promote their car or brand. I accept it and every culture has good and bad cars, some are just more to my taste, V8 or V10, manual, rear wheel drive is my taste. Bikes are a different story, but there’s many other cars that are certainly very good even if I’m not the biggest fan.

I started off liking JDM tuned cars but theses days Im really into prerunners and trophy trucks.

I grew up on classic cars. My dad was always working on 60s muscle cars so that's what I first learned to work on cars from. Just a few years ago I got a 1986 Nissan Sentra, I love it even though it has no power. There's just something I like about those old carbureted engines. Plus I get better mpgs than most people I know with modern cars (when everything is working right)

The last part kinda hits home as I love French cars, but nobody around me likes them, so I never dared to buy one. Fortunately I also really love the Japanese cars I have, but maybe it is time to grow and try something different for my next car!

I strongly agree with Bladed. I own a few German cars now. But up to this day I still strongly regret last year for trading in my 07 Focus SES with a five speed to a E350. I only did it because to match the parking lot at work. That Focus was the best car that I ever had. It was cheap and fun to drive. I may needed to check my life insurance ever time I had to enter the highway for how slow it was. But that was a great little car. Plus, girls that aqua blue.
If I see another Focus that looks like mine I'm 100% am buying it no matter what.

@@sabersz A guy in my town has a GT350 and sees me play with him on the road all the time and one day he finally pulled off into a Gas station and it happened… he let me drive it and I straight up shed a tear, and he was impressed how fast my car was
its funny ive been a car guy essentially all my life and in my current teenage years i basically have a phase for a certain car brand or genre of car such as muscle, luxury, euro you name it. very weird but i love it and of course i have specific favourites and thats the beauty of being a petrol head.
Sorry I’m a bit late to the video but I’m glad you brought up the not caring about specs point and the not caring what others think. I have a 99 Jeep Cherokee and that has taught me how to be a better “mechanic”. I’ve had to learn how to take care of it and also challenge myself to see what I can do. It’s truly an awesome experience keeping it mainly stock under the hood and still going strong. Anyway cool video as always Bladed!

Today, I started using the C7 Corvette in GT7. The car is yellow and I've been using cockpit view this whole time. During my first drive, I kept thinking "Bladed Angel out".

I would like to see bike content. I have a Kawi Z125 and a Yamaha FJ09. I get way more enjoyment out of the mini bike with all my friends than I do riding my FJ09. Fj09 is essentially my commuter at this point. The Z comes out for the wheelies and hood rat stuff. Nothing beats holding it wide open and looking down and doing 40-60 MPH, always smiling having a great time going slow.

It's surprisingly ergonomic for not being cruiser bike, and it's still having crisp manual trans without punishing you with hand clutch. And also very light that you can push it downhill without worrying about carrying too much momentum

I felt what he said about Classics. I have a Square Body Chevy it has its problems without a doubt. But I am beyond happy everytime I start it up its the sound of that little old 305 rumbling. The old radio coming in with static. The old but comfortable bench seat. The wings and sliding back glass. It makes me smile even if it does take 500 years to start in the winter because its carburated. I have made memories in that truck I wont forget and the project is just beginning.

I only sporadically follow your content but man that spiel about the super cub hit home. There was so much I related to as someone who fell in love with a shitbox hatchback at 21 and I think it really gets to the core of what it means to be an enthusiast about a vehicle... or anything, really.

I agree with what you said about classic cars. Really that goes with almost any car built before the 90s id say, at least from my experience. I picked up an ‘89 suburban a couple days ago and maybe it’s a little too new to be a classic, but it shares pretty much everything with older classics. The sound, the feeling when it starts, how amazing it is to drive it, and it’s pushed me to learn how to work on cars more. And even going past that the interior is so incredibly basic compared to any modern cars, there’s a ton of space, the bench seating is awesome, the lack of safety features, while dangerous, I find cool. There’s no airbags or headrests so it makes the interior look like something you’d find in the 60s and 70s, not the late 80s. I highly recommend you find an older truck or car to work on, cause I can almost guarantee you’ll have an amazing time with it. Maybe I got lucky, cause it has no major problems and I’ve really only had to fix smaller issues like broken seatbelts and stuff. Either way, I’ve loved having this suburban
Just got my 1990 mustang running and none of the work I still need to do is performance. I love this video for how accurate it feels for my own enthusiast journey and turning a wrench on such an old car nearly every day to finally have it start after it sat for over 10 years was so much better than taking corners at 80mph in my WRX.
I’ve been watching you since before I started driving, and now, 2 years into my license and I’ve definitely gone from being the video game statistic spiting 15 year old to a wayyy more chill enthusiast who enjoys the old Datsuns at car meets more than McLarens. At some point the cool, rare, sometimes non exotic stuff became more interesting to me than the 15th huracan at cars and coffee.

Your supercub reminds me so much of my own countrys little national treasure of a moped, the Finnish made Pappatunturi. This is a nickname for a line of very basic moped from the company Tunturi between 1950-1990. The line-up specifically is Tunturi Maxi, Automat and Start. These by being one of the first Finnish made bikes/mope, have nowdays amassed a pretty sizable cult following and has sort of become a part of Finnish national heritage. It's such a charming little thing to see plucking about.
(I don't know much about them myself, so a more knowledgable person could bring a bit more insight to this, but love to see them being taken care of and used)
