I do about 35% once a month. 15g with wild type shrimp. Started with 20, had hundreds within two months. Maybe 4 or 5 hundred in there now. Java moss, subwassertang and Java Fern windelov growing all over the wood in the tank. Have a small Eheim ecco with a big prefilter sponge as my filter. Use a Fennix stingray as my light. Going to give them another 15g very soon. I might add them to my 60g Wild Swordtail tank when the plants grow in more. Who knows, I might even try one of the colored varieties.

Nice video, good information and easy to relate to. I did set up a 10 gal dirted tank for cherry shrimp but end up with lots of snails when I bought plants for it. I treated the plants with PP and bleach, still got pond snails. I now have 3 mollies and 2 zebra loach in there to eliminate snails before adding cherry shrimp. It's an uphill battle going on for 6 months now. I am at a point that I want to dump cupramine in the tank. Having said that, my zebra loaches are doing triple overtime for me so I'm giving them a chance. Any suggestion of fish species to keep with cherry shrimp or keep it shrimp only? Thanks.

love your vids and thnx for sharing your knowledge. i'm a beginner and trying to keep and breed cherries in a 3 gallon low-tech nano tank (marineland contour 3), with lots of plants and some drift wood and mineral rocks. it's taken me 2.5 months of learning, trial and error, and sadly killing a bunch of shrimps in the process. i finally have the water parameters within range, with ph @ 7.1, kh @ 4, and gh @ 7. however, the tds likes to stay around 250. i tried water changes and lowered it to 200; it eventually slowly creeps back up to 250. i don't know if tds will continue to rise; i guess time will tell. so my question is how accurately should i monitor the water parameters, esp. tds? i keep hearing to do less and keep it stable. at which point do i need to lower tds? and besides water changes, what else can i do to lower tds? 2nd question is my water temp fluctuates from 72 to 75 everyday, depending on day/night natural room temp. is that ok? last question, how many shrimp in a 3 gallon tank is too many for them to breed? many thnx. your fan, david

I was hoping they would stop breeding considering I have 30 in a 6.6 long tank but I saw that I now have 5 shrimp with eggs and I also have a 2.5 gallon with 40 baby shrimp that I was supposed to put with them since I didn’t think they’d breed anymore so now I have to get a bigger tank 😭

I have wondered for 5 years how to pronounce cholla. I was unknowingly pronouncing it right all along. Kinda proud of myself.

You use a green screen, parts became transparent...
But anyway, I am pretty new to shrimp, about a month or two. I have been getting a few at a time, and I got some essentially colorless ones that are in there just because they were very cheap but I wouldn't want them to breed, and a few ghost shrimp which are about the same. Yesterday I looked in there and a female (painted?) red shrimp (I don't know) was laying on her side with two smaller transparent shrimp apparently eating her thru the belly! 😲 My eyes just about popped out of my head! 😢 I didn't think Cherry Shrimp could attack anything, and thought maybe ghost shrimp were attacking! But two were shaking her pretty violently! I moved pretty suddenly, maybe I tapped the glass, I'm not sure.
But then I realized I was actually seeing two (ugly) male Cherry Shrimp mating with the female! My first time seeing it. 🙈 Oh my virgin eyes! 😉
I know I have both sexes now, even though these males weren't ones I would have preferred. 💩
