Please can I employ you to read me bedtime stories? Could listen to your enthusiasm all day. Reminded me of Jackanory as a kid. Learnt loads. Thank you. Just about to delve into shrimp keeping. Been wanting to do it for years.
My biggest suggestion for keeping cherry Shrimp is to set up tank first with live plants, java moss , leaves and wood and heater . Keep at 73 degree for 3 mths test water then go buy shrimp 🦐
Great video! I'm going to get my first group of shrimp tomorrow! Been doing some research over time, so this is like extra cramming the night before a test lol. Thanks for the info! Much love everyone!
I got 8 of them two weeks ago. Thought I lost all but 1 until yesterday night (lights out), when at least 5/6 of them were doing their thing. Apparently they've been hiding this whole time (aquarium is heavily planted). Their only mate is a scarlet badis. How long do you think it will take them until they lose their shyness?
Same here, we had 10 Blue Dreams. Noticed three unfortunately lost their lives over the weeks. Then spend further weeks panicking and searching for the others hiding in the plants. Another month goes by and we notice one of the females carrying eggs. Two months after that and our 200l tank is now littered with an uncountable number of them 😅

I’ve not had much success so far with my shrimp. Started with 10 and that has dwindled down to 3 over the course of about 3 months. Had two with eggs but nothing seems to have come of that as the eggs are now gone. Still got at least one male and one female left so hoping for success next time.
Great Info .. thankyou .. all the best from Herts .. I have the perfect balanced aquarium for them ,,, Red cherrys , still saving lol so expensive ,, All the best .
What kind of tank mates fish wise can be with them I have guppy’s and tetras only with some bristle nose catfish and glass catfish, but iam afraid if I buy some adults they will get eaten
Hello! So I have guppies and I breed them. But I want to introduce cherry shrimp. I got 20 shrimps. I want to breed them too.. So to start do I just add the shrimp after acclimation? Or do I remove guppies from the plated tank and wait for the shrimps first batch or something? Please help. My end goal is to have my guppies and shrimp breeding and having plenty of life in the tank. I have a 10 gallon well planted tank, with a moss coconut shell. Also do I add almond leaves or is it enough with the coconut shell covered in moss with a hole on top for bio film?
Thank you for all your videos! Love your channel. I have had a blue nose bristlenose with my many neocardina shrimp for a long long time along with plattys and corys. At one point I had a shrimp explosion...so many! Suddenly my shrimp has dissapeared but I see some pop out here and there. What could be happening? Water parameters are fine tank temp is 75. Any thoughts?
They can be surprisingly good at hiding, although you would expect to seem them sometimes. Maybe shine a flash light around after lights out and see if they are out and about when it’s dark 🤔
That is quite a swing. However, see how your shrimp are handling it. If they are doing well, don’t worry about it. If they are struggling, see if there is anything you can do to prevent the temperature swinging so much 👍🏻
Typically shrimp live in large volumes of water, so temperature swings are slow and happen over days or weeks. In our aquariums the temp can swing by a few degrees over the course of hours 😔
Question come filter , I currently own is a submersible pump . Whereby one end will suck the water up to a filter box which place on the tank , and water flow back from the fliter box. One thing is the pump inside the tank have an output which will push the water inside the tank. Will it affect the shrimp? I guess you should know what fish filter I preferring here , Of course I will use a sponge to cover the intake areas as there are holes.
Going to my local aquarist shop tomorrow to start buying stuff I’m going to need for a 5 gallon planted tank. I already know the substrate I want and the general hardscape I’m going for. I’m on a shoestring budget though so it may be a few months before I can send you photos. Just wanted to say thanks. I have always been deeply interested in marine biology but I always figured you’d need a really large tank to keep anything interesting. Shrimp is perfect for my limited space, and if it goes well maybe I can convince my family to setup a larger one in the living room. A blackwater tank in a 30g long with tetras is gunna be the pitch lol.

What he said. I have small and medium plants in my 3 gallon Betta tank along with a few decorations (that I change out), a small piece of mopani wood and a coconut arch with Java moss on it. No need to be confused! Larger water volume means more stability. That doesn’t mean you can’t keep shrimp in a small tank, it just means you need to learn about controlling water parameters 👍🏻
@@ryhanna_rr a lid helps prevent evaporation. Evaporation leads to a drop in water temperature and, as only pure water evaporates, can lead to rises of other water parameters. 👍🏻

For what it’s worth, if I were in your shoes, I would pick one or two strains and breed the heck out of them. Become the BEST Blue Dream shrimp breeder or the BEST Black Diamond Shrimp breeder. @@FishKeepingAnswers thank you so much for responding so fast, and for the recommendation! I haven't started a tank yet, but I'm doing as much research as I can. Really the tank is for my nearly 5 year old. She's autistic and *loves* fish. Watching them helps her regulate and get some of her stimming out. I'm on a really tight budget, so a heavily planted tank with Endlers or platys, then shrimp for all of their tank benefits. Although, I'm not going to lie, they are mostly for me 😂
Started with 20 of them in my community tank, but now I have a ton of them. Didn't really do anything special except for feed them once every other day. Sadly, I can't say the same for my aquatic plants. My Java moss hasn't really done anything, and it's been over a month.
Hey Richard , I just had to share the other day I was at my LFS River Shore Aquatics in MPLS MN 💙 , I was just talking to the owner about..... When we started talking about shrimp and what I was thinking about for my 2nd variety to go into my last empty 16 gallon , I asked if he was interested in trading my red's for some blue's? What he said kinda surprised me and I thought it would have been easy 🙄 So he offered me$100 for 50 RCS and that ended up taking so long ((((( Heavy plants , and seriously the top of my 40 Breeder has more floating plants that I have been hanging lights on the sides so I can keep the plants inside alive , which they are and healthy too. )))) I ended up making my 16 gallon my 2nd RCS and I think it will be much better for me to focus on the big picture to make both aquariums A) easier to get into. B) Keep doing everything as before because I have been consistent and the shrimp are loving it and I have a? for you .... What is the best way to get rid of the majority of the floating Salvinia and not risk losing any of the baby shrimp or any size for me , I have been considering following you again and buying a Large storage container 3' x 2 x 2 with the amount of floating plants that would cover the surface in 1 scoop of my big net . Should I go completely 0 floaters in my original 40 Breeder and the tub can benefit from the ridiculous amount since I am pretty good at growing those 2 I think it's a good idea to try to sell some ? HEY I HAVE A FEW THINGS TO SAY THANK YOU Richard Help 💙💚

You can mix different colours, and you may well end up with a new colour strain, but most likely you will end up with some wild type, brown shrimp.

Your pH is fairly low. Try adding some crushed coral or WonderShell to raise it a little 👍🏻
I don't want to breed and sell. I just love them. I just have a problem with my tetras and babies I keep buying?? Are the tetras eating my baby's? I've bought so many and only have a few. I've checked all the nitrates.?
I would download a copy of my book and work through it to find the missing piece of the puzzle.

one youtuber said tank should be bigger as it will have more stable water parameters like temp will increase or decrease slowly. Im confused now
No need to be confused! Larger water volume means more stability. That doesn’t mean you can’t keep shrimp in a small tank, it just means you need to learn about controlling water parameters 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers I test daily to help me stay on top of any changes. 🤞
Re. Stability- a lid is the biggest thing you can do, regardless of tank size.
Great point 👍🏻
May I ask why? Can they escape?
@@ryhanna_rr a lid helps prevent evaporation. Evaporation leads to a drop in water temperature and, as only pure water evaporates, can lead to rises of other water parameters. 👍🏻
@@ryhanna_rr A lid reduces losses from evaporation, so keeps your water parameters as stable as possible. Shrimpys will take stability over perfection any day...
@@FishKeepingAnswers that makes sense thanks
I love the blue versions
😍
I feel like theres not that much money to be made in shrimp so Manny people sell them now
Could be true, but quality always shines over cheap, so there is probably room for those who focus on quality 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers I have alot of shrimp I've been selling but I feel like it's hard to compete with mass shrimp seller's but I'm only 16 so it's just for fun lol
For what it’s worth, if I were in your shoes, I would pick one or two strains and breed the heck out of them. Become the BEST Blue Dream shrimp breeder or the BEST Black Diamond Shrimp breeder. Become know for breeding the best of whatever it is you love and go from there. Let me assure you, assuming you are a sixteen year old that doesn’t work full time, you have a massive advantage over most other breeders, which is you have time on your side.
Would love to hear how you get on 🤞🏻
Ya I've been focusing on cherry shrimp and black rose and also green jade shrimp I've made 100 bucks so far I just started like 2 weeks ago selling them I've been chulling them as well
Sounds like you are on the right track. Great work
I’m getting to get shrimp to,Moros wish me luck,

Where is the best place to buy shrimp in the UK?
Loving these videos, im learning so much.
Thank you.
Recently I have been buying from Tropco.co.uk
I have only had positive experiences with them so far 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers thank you so much for responding so fast, and for the recommendation!
I haven't started a tank yet, but I'm doing as much research as I can. Really the tank is for my nearly 5 year old. She's autistic and *loves* fish. Watching them helps her regulate and get some of her stimming out.
I'm on a really tight budget, so a heavily planted tank with Endlers or platys, then shrimp for all of their tank benefits. Although, I'm not going to lie, they are mostly for me 😂
Ok😊😊😊😊😊
Started with 20 of them in my community tank, but now I have a ton of them. Didn't really do anything special except for feed them once every other day.
Sadly, I can't say the same for my aquatic plants. My Java moss hasn't really done anything, and it's been over a month.

Great info …. But raise the camera ! The angle is odd 😂
👍🏻
Hey I have a 3 gal
Nice 👍🏻
Hey Richard , I just had to share the other day I was at my LFS River Shore Aquatics in MPLS MN 💙 , I was just talking to the owner about..... When we started talking about shrimp and what I was thinking about for my 2nd variety to go into my last empty 16 gallon , I asked if he was interested in trading my red's for some blue's? What he said kinda surprised me and I thought it would have been easy 🙄 So he offered me$100 for 50 RCS and that ended up taking so long ((((( Heavy plants , and seriously the top of my 40 Breeder has more floating plants that I have been hanging lights on the sides so I can keep the plants inside alive , which they are and healthy too. ))))
I ended up making my 16 gallon my 2nd RCS and I think it will be much better for me to focus on the big picture to make both aquariums A) easier to get into.
HEY I HAVE A FEW THINGS TO SAY THANK YOU Richard Help 💙💚
oh im first?
Yep
I'm 18th😁
I wouldn't say it is their purpose merely something they do.
You mean like it's their hobby???? 😂
😂
@@FishKeepingAnswersWell woodworking is right out…
