I am a Biology teacher and used this video during lockdown. I had the students study the different water parameters and made them watch this to see an example of when water parameters are important. Thank you for this beautifull guide! My students loved it too!
Guides like this are why I love TH-cam. Not some 4 minute crap with barely any info but a nice 20 minute quality video with great information! Keep it up and I would love to know if you have any information on keeping Paratya Australiensis as I am from Australia so they are native here and I have just started with breeding them!
YOU HAVE NO IDEA THIS IS THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE VIDEO FOR BEGINNERS! THANK YOU SO MUCH, SETTING UP 3 TANKS FOR CRYSTAL SHRIMP RIGHT NOW! MAN I LOVE YOU!
I agree. I look over and see you only have 2.6K sub, then i go digging and i see its pretty new and your growing quickly. Amazing video with crisp images. Keep up the good work...+1 lol
@@McMerwe hahahahahahahahahahahaha funnny so funny. You're like my hilarious classmate who says that's what she said to everything. If you say I'm a frog, he'll say that's what she said. or the time I asked him if he was high and he replied that's what she said
This was THE BEST, informative, clear, and to the point video I've seen in the solid two days of looking. So, I've kept fish before, success, but hadn't since I was a kid. Jump forward to now, two and a half years ago a friend of mine was trying to rid herself of a 5gal with a beta and a pleco (waaaaay wrong size for tank) I rescued it, homed it, lived for a few years and died. Got the beta a 10gal and some friends, (beta friendly of course) sad to be so limited. Then the beta died. They did have them for a while before I got them. So now I'm excited! I can get more than just a few "safe" fish! Get a few things (been a few years now) but I spied these "Ghost" or "glass" (as I've seen them called on the internet) shrimp! I loved them! Max they get to be just over an inch in length. So cute, hard to see but cute. Fast forward to now. Just moved. Got a new tank so i could move the fish from my old aquarium to a new snail free one. I couldn't bear to throw away my empty tank of moss balls that are multiplying like rabbits. So I ordered some assassin snails online, they'll be here soon. I also put in a few minnows and goldfish for fun. But the top tank didn't do so well with the transfer. Some of the fish were older, maybe I put them in just a bit too soon, not enough water and bacteria from the previous tank, who knows. Any who. Had NO idea about the sponge filter (picking that up today) but I got some more Ghost shrimp to have and they're doing super. But I REALLY want to do a solo shrimp tank. It's my new next project as soon as I get payed! This was a great video! Thank you!
This is a fantastic video. It is the first video you have produced that I have seen, and you well earned a thumbs up and subscribe. Thank you for producing it. I look forward to seeing more of yours.
Ive watched sooo many videos, this is by far the best of them. Seriously the best one I've ever seen! Thanks for taking the time to give us some great advice!
EXCELLENT VIDEO!!! I haven’t started my journey w/ shrimp yet…but I’ve watched, probably, over a hundred videos in past couple years! You’re is by far THE BEST OUT THERE!!! Very informative…thank you very much!!!
Greetings from Brazil. I love South Africa and I am happy for such a high standard video material here. Hope to get to know this channel better as my shrimp aquarium is picking up. Thanks so much.
As soon as I heard the accent, i felt comforted that i could easily call them from across the boarder and ask for help. Or plan a long drive to go to their store
I have been reading and watching videos on shrimp keeping and breeding for the past several months. I have gotten good information on several sites. On TH-cam I am down to 3 (+/-) people I watch and listen to regularly. This post is the most comprehensive and it cleared up some questions I still had. Outstanding work Thank you.
One of the most completed guide in shrimp keeping! I am a crystal shrimps breeder and I have been using tap water for years. I guess it really really depends on the shrimp line and the quality of the local water 😊
This is the best shrimp guide that i've seen. Thumbs up and subbed great advice not to spend loads of money at first and breed the easier ones first. Cheers mate
I'm rather new to the hobby, and still learning so much (so I appreciate your content more than you know). I REALLY appreciate your charts/visuals on breeds/types, and water parameters, as it's much easier to reference a screenshot than have to continually look up info! Thanks again for all the effort you put in to this.
Very informative video. In my experience, AMANO shrimp are the EASIEST shrimp to keep but the toughest to breed. They are less sensitive to water temperature/parameters, clean the tank better and live longer than any neocaridina or caridina species. Regardless of their lack of color, Amanos have quickly become my absolute favorite shrimp to keep.
You have me geeking out so badly, I spent a half hour just going through the list in the beginning. I've never heard of sulawesi shrimp... I'm unbelievably excited 😍
A full guide indeed! Very interesting and educational. Thank you for sharing! I subscribed and put notifications on, because Your TH-cam site is excellent!
lol- why didn't this pop up when I was searching how to breed Amano Shrimp? Well, I now have a handful of 60 days old Amano shrimp and it was consistency that got the job done. The feeding tips are definitely going to help me for their continued growth. Thanks!
I would have bet anything that there was no way this video would have held my interest all the way through to the end. But it certainly did (and I don’t own shrimp!). Well produced both visually and verbally (sentences were always well crafted and effective!). Probably the best produced video I’ve ever seen on youtube.....
Wow-what excellent detail all on one video. With so many mixed opinions on how to grow and look after freshwater shrimp, this is the best and cheapest 23 minutes I have spent yet on my fact-finding mission. This explains why our little mate "Wally" as we liked to call him and his slightly larger lady "Stripe" (Both Black Crystal Shrimp) survived and managed to have some kids in our 4-foot tank but unfortunately, the tap water and friendly otto's in the tank eventually got the better of them all. We won't make the same mistake again. Thanks very much.
By far the best 'how to' video on breeding anything for a beginner. This format is concise, informative and easy to follow. I wish all fish videos were so helpful. Imagine what you and Tank Tested could do together. Bravo!

Thanks for this video it was incredibly informative. Getting more shrimp soon and will hopefully be on my way to an amazing hobby. Wish me luck!!
This is probably the best shrimp guide out there. I think you should consider remaking this in the not-too-distant future when 4k/2160p is cheaply available and maybe a section on shrimp prices comparatively from ghost shrimp to the highest grade of crystal red shrimp, though it would have to be comparatively since prices probably differ region to region. Also, do you have any experience with putting marimo moss balls in the tanks? I'd imagine shrimp would like it, but don't know for sure. I can tell you put a lot of work into this video, and 4 years after you uploaded it, there still isn't a better guide on youtube.
I’ve recently got into breeding shrimp by chance. I had a 125litre tank with 4 blue velvets. As of the weekend, I’ve got just over 100 shrimp. Rang up my LFS and they offered me £1.50 each!! That is awesome. I was talking someone at work. People that have alot of off tomr during lockdown pandemic. I'd you didn't take advantage of it to gain as much knowledge as possible in anything. Thanks man! I am currently waiting on my 25 liter tank to be finished with the cycling process and want to keep shrimp together with some small fisch. At first I wanted to breed for the mony but you are probably right that it wont work. I don't want to have only shrimp in this and thats it. I want to enjoy the tank and not just have it as a money farm. I will however probably still put in different colors simply because I can't decide between them and I would love to see some crazy mixtures. If they do end up all beeing brownisch after a vew generations then I will just put in some fresh colors and pick those out as life food for my betta. 🙃 Thats how my first shrimp ended because im new to this hobby and thought some hiding is enough. 😐 the fish will come after the population is to my taste. I am thankful for this video it was very informative and probably saved quite a vew lifes and money in my case😥
bro I know this video was 4 years ago but it saves my new shrimp's life so i was sitting on my couch watching this video, and I decided to do a quick strip test for the water parameters to see if they matched the requirements for cherry shrimp, nitrites were alarmingly high, (the test said 10) so i do a 50% water change then test for ammonia 0.50 ppm, I had never tested ammonia above 0 ppm, I immediately panic, and do another water change 70% this time then test again, 0 ppm the nitrite is also at 0. i was so relived lol my guess as to what the HECK happened is as I was adding new plants (i grabbed them from my community tank as they were overgrowing) some of chicken's (my pearl gourami) poop hitchhiked along with the plants, causing an ammonia spike in the 1 gallon nano tank I have 2 small cherry shrimp in there currently, and they were only there for 2 hours when i did the water changes so it wasn't from them.
I have had some success with orange neo cardina I had a real good batch multiplying I introduced a beta fish because my blue beta will not touch them in his tank what foolish mistake I made. I am starting a more serious breed only setup no hob filter I want a sponge only maybe a small internal flow fan or power head. I have tons of plants and driftwood but now that I watched this video I am going to lower the temp I usually 26 to 27 in most of my tanks I will try doing a cooler tank gonna aim for 24 c see how this goes also I have an RODI water filter for my saltwater aquariums. I will add the minerals needed because my water is zero TDS after watching this I am super pumped! Great video.
I had good success when I put them in their own tank. I bought 4 and now I have over 50 6 months later. I put in a spong filter, some fluval shrimp substrate, moss, wood, alder cones, a heater, and some hikari shrimp cuisine.
I eventually got round to watching this video. 😄 Great video . It answers most of not all the questions that people ask when starting to breed shrimp. Great work. Love to see more of your shrimp and videos.👍😄
Iv'e just noticed one of my cherry shrimp's is egg laden.I'm very excited, like a first time father.I don't keep them for breeding i just find them very endearing.I'm fairly new to this.I had a aquarium ticking over for a few years with nothing but plants and'snails in it.I topped up lost water with treated water, never cleaning it out fully, just netting out excess debris. An air stone running continuously, with a very small internal filter.I decided to add some shrimps to add some life to it,not adding fish of any kind, shrimps only.Again don't do any tank maintenance at all other than netting out debris and topping up water loss with treated tap water.I do buy new shrimps every so often to top up.Just waiting for her to drop them.If she does or doesn't,doesn't matter,i love these, they are so cute and fascinating.

so i was sitting on my couch watching this video, and I decided to do a quick strip test for the water parameters to see if they matched the requirements for cherry shrimp, nitrites were alarmingly high, (the test said 10) so i do a 50% water change then test for ammonia
0.50 ppm, I had never tested ammonia above 0 ppm, I immediately panic, and do another water change 70% this time then test again,
0 ppm the nitrite is also at 0. i was so relived lol
my guess as to what the HECK happened is as I was adding new plants (i grabbed them from my community tank as they were overgrowing) some of chicken's (my pearl gourami) poop hitchhiked along with the plants, causing an ammonia spike in the 1 gallon nano tank
I have 2 small cherry shrimp in there currently, and they were only there for 2 hours when i did the water changes so it wasn't from them.
