Thank you for being honest. I had Gina Curl for years. It started out wonderfully and I took GREAT care of my hair! Upfront they warn you about "shedding" but your hair falls out!! Those clumps in the shower are way more than "100" hairs a day!! I'm healthy, I go to the gym 4 times a week, i juice regularly, drink lots of water and I don't eat processed food. So it was not my health. All the women with multiple Gina Curls hair starts to look thin around 3rd/4th retouch. I wish community would just come out and be honest about it, instead of blaming each other or ourselves. It makes no sense that women who pain stakingly took care of their hair for years, through perms and transitions and full on natural hair "suddenly" don't know how to take care of their hair when it comes to a "Gina Curl"?! Miss me with that!!
If they’re honest about it, they can’t sell it. But thank you for putting your story out here. I feel terrible for the little girls being subjected to this now.
I got a Gina Curl from Hair’s Talent. They over-processed my hair too. After 1 month of my first gina curl my hair was breaking off really bad. I followed all of gina’s rules but my hair is damaged beyond repair. Time to big chop for me
It seems the issue with these curly perms comes when you go for the retouches. Unlike relaxers, that "smoothing/booster/curling" chemical is being applied to entire strand of hair over rollers rather than just the new growth. If someone could come up with a way to ONLY process the new growth, this process would be sustainable. I know that's probably impossible due to the use of rollers, but... yeah. ☹ I don't think the issue is with the chemical itself, but the repeated application over time to hair that has already been processed.
This is why all of these comments are saying things were fine for months and then it started to look worse and worse. That hair (aside from new growth at the root) had been wrapped around a roller and processed a BUNCH of times 😢
I once had my 4 years long virgin hair destroyed to jhury curl🥺I think all the curly perms are the same. In the beginning, your hair will look very beautiful, admired by all but however, your hair stops growing afterwards and keeps breaking no matter how you treat and moisturize it. Thanks for being honest gurl
I experienced this with my Japanese straightening. I was permed for a couple years. I did do deep conditioning and baby my hair. My hair is fine and I also believe that the breakage and thinning is due to the reapplication process. It’s just to much to deal with. I wanted something that was easier to deal with. I decided to go back natural. Be careful with braiding your hair up with permed ends. I experienced some serious matting.
Thank you for your honesty and transparency! This has helped me make my decision!
This same thing happened to me. My hair broke off in the same spot :( I decided to grow mine out. Made me really sad. It was so nice awhile it latest.
I’m sorry to hear about the breakage. I’ve been considering Gina curl for a long time and it seems like most of the people I follow are getting away from it for one reason or the other. I’m glad you’re moving forward with a positive attitude. Have fun with your new hair journey. I think whatever you choose to do with the channel will be fun and exciting. Do a little of everything until you find something that you love.
Thank you! ☺
This seems to be a trend with these Gina curls. I seen a lot of videos where the hair looks great until the around the 4th one something goes wrong and the hair starts to thin and break off.
Yeah. They love the people who come in with long full natural hair because their first application looks amazing and sucks you in! But by the 4th and 5th app their hair is thinner and shorter. Unfortunately it is a good style if you think of it as time limited.
They also why they charge so much-it’s all they’re gonna get out of you.
Same here
I am so glad you put out this video about ending the Gina Curl journey because I don't see a lot of girl talking about it. I was having very similar experiences with breakage and excess shedding. I did everything that was provided in the aftercare and it still didn't work. I ended my Gina Curl journey after the 5th and final one in Oct 2022. After the 4th perm the curls did not set properly so my hair was kind of straightish and by month 4 and 5 it was breaking and matting like crazy. I did the 5th one with tighter curls (yellow rods) and on the 2nd to 3rd wash, there was huge chunks of matting within the first month!! I'm like, I'm DONE! Right now loving my strong natural and versatile hair that's growing in.
Hey girl! I’m so sorry that happened to u! I’m in the same spot with my straight variation.. it’s breaking, and thinning so I’m growing my natural hair out and cutting an inch or 2 every 3 months.. totally feel the frustration and definitely regret it but it is what it is! Here’s to our healthy hair journey!
Yesss to our healthy hair journey 🙌🏾😁
Thanks for the info!
I think the wavy look was where the stylist made a mistake and maybe caused damage. But that’s the problem with getting chemical treatments - it’s not predictable. I really liked your Ginacurl and have been on the fence forever about it but I think this sealed the deal for me. 😢 welcome to team natural- good luck on your journey 😀
Yeahhhhh with my hair already being high porosity it’s a dub
I had a texturizer last year, it looked amazing for a few months.
I have crazy breakage in the nape area too, it started breaking like crazy after 9 months.
I don't recommend anyone to getting this, except if you have unprocessed and very thick hair.
The only good thing is that because you apply so much water / moisturizer, your hair still grows pretty fast.
So im about to be in my 4th curl session. I noticed in the previous video you changed up your leave in conditioner to something lighter. And you used to use the thick honey.
Quick story, when i fiiirst got the gina curl, i experienced significant breakage around the perimeter of my head. i kneeew my hair wasnt being moisturized enough at all. I was strictly using only gina curl products (shampoo, conditioner, and curl cream). So after my first session, i watched ur videos and switched to what u were using (shea moisture shampoo and cond, and i used the thick honey u used, and i used the honey comb curl whip). After that, i didnt experience breakage like that again.
In my opinion, if ur hair was dryer than normal aand u went to atlanta, the lady may have done something wrong…..
I hate that this has happened to your haiir. And i literally would keep up with ur gina hair vids..no one else had consistent ones. So I’ll definitely miss it.
You’re a beauty btw
Hi! I was still using the honey hydrate leave-in conditioner when I got my 3rd Gina Curl in AZ. It is dry here, but I live here also so my hair wouldn't have been dryer than it already is usually. I definitely still love that leave in and intend to use it with my natural hair in rotation with the melanin leave in conditioner 😁 & thank you so much ☺❤
Are you still doing gina curls now?
Please list all the products u currently use?
Did you get a chance to speak to your stylist that performed the Gina Curl, what did she say happened? Do you think she applied it wrong?
I watched this entire series.. I think it went downhill when you went for the 3rd touch up. I think they may have over processed for sure hun. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. You are absolutely beautiful being inside and out 🥰❣✌🏼
I think so too, and thank you ☺️
Never knew there was Gina-curl
That’s so sad.😢sorry to hear
I already knew the breakage word was coming
Thank you for the update! I have hair like yours before your Gina curl and was highly considering it. But now I’m not so sure because it’s such a huge investment and I would need it to be long term. Thank you for being honest. Would you recommend others get the Gina Curl considering your hair journey?
No problem, and yeah. As my hair thinned, I was told it was to be expected, so as you are looking for a long term style, it may not be best for you. I did enjoy having it/ rocking it at it's best for sure though! And I would recommend it to people who don't mind ultimately letting go of that hair in the long run.
I went to see your previous Gina curls video and the third one might have caused too much damages, I hope the hairstylist apologised at the very least.
I’ve done my first Ginacurl almost a year ago and I think once a year is perfect to me. I’m kind of scared to come to the same conclusion in 3 years but after experiencing a disastrous wave nouveau that destroyed ALL of my hair in less than a year the Ginacurl (rightly done) would still be the best option. You look gorgeous btw
Thank you! ☺ And yeah, something seems to have went wrong along the way, and the most noticeable change in my hair was getting it done the 3rd time. There wasn't an apology; they said as your hair gets long and with repeated Gina curls, it is to be expected. So if this is the expected outcome, you should consider that too before getting one I would say.
I’m starting to believe that the Gina curl should just be done at Hairstalent by Gina or her staff. If out of state hairstylist are learning to do a chemical process and becoming certified by Video, that may be where the problem lies.
@@veronicalipsey-qo4gqI agree- I think not going Hairs Talent could be part of it- but that is a whole other commitment traveling to CT to get your hair done
@@GinaCurl Hello, this was said to me by my certified stylist after getting my 3rd gina curl. The stylist spoke with Gina herself over the phone, and this is what was relayed to me afterwards. I'm not aware of how many gina curls clients are on, but I did except my hair to still be in good condition to continue getting this treatment. I don't see how calling could have saved my hair unfortunately .
All my Gina Curls were done at Hair's Talent. I'm so sorry, ladies, but your hair is going to fall out. It'll fall out in clumps. Check back after #3. It starts right after the 1st one they call it "shedding". Well, the shedding never stops and ramps up. At first you disregard it, especially if your hair is really thick like mine. You like the look and want to go back. But around the 3rd or 4th one you hair is going to be noticeably thinner. I hope we don't keep making excuses for what's happening and stop blaming each other. They know! That's why they warn you upfront about "shedding" and tell you its "normal" . It is not normal! Remember Diva Curl? And how all the infuencers' hairs were destroyed and no one wanted to come forward and come to find out a huge portion of the community lost their hair, HBOMAX did a good doc 'Not so Pretty' episode 4. I wouldn't be surprised if it is something similar to this.
I've been trying to decide between this and the texture release by Avlon which is not a chemical. With the texture release you can still straighten your hair.
I've never heard of it, definitely going to look it up 😁
So with the Gina Curl you can’t straighten your hair at all?
You are too cute to be wearing this old lady perm anyway *take hair vitamins or prenatal vitamins and it will grow back faster.best of luck *pheonix area❤
This appears to be a modern day curl or curly perm. I recall many African Americans that said that their hair grew with the curl but if you do not continue to get the curl it will break off very badly. You literally have to cut the curl out of your hair or continue to get regular curly perms!
These chemicals. Have to be rinsed profusely with each step of the process every time U get it processed I have been a stylist for 30 + years ask me anything
I believe a Gina Curl Retouch should always be done once a year instead of every 3, or 6 months.
Doesn’t matter. I think chemicals get to you eventually unless you have really thick coarse strands
