Your hair is shedding because you are still treating your hair like you have natural curly hair, instead of chemically enhanced curly hair. You shouldn't ever defuse your wave nouveau, wave nouveau is meant to be highly moisturized to the touch feeling. Not wet but moisturized and definitely not dry. You should never comb it when it's dry. I see that you had it braided and under a wig for a while. Again a wave nouveau curl aka "jherri curl' is not meant to be dry. Hence why you are having so much shedding. As a stylist I'm only trying to help. You should not be losing that much hair and you should not be shampooing a wave nouveau weekly. Only speaking from experience, i have been doing this type of " curly perm" since the 90's. The routine you're doing was not meant for this type of chemical process. I don't want to see you continue to lose that amount of hair when you shampoo. Your regrowth may be coming in curly but the texture will be different and the root will eventually be puffier than the chemically treated hair. For those who don't know there is a difference between a curly perm for white women and the curl nouveau which was marketed for tightly coiled hair of black brown & ethicnic women with tightly coiled hair. A curly perm for a white woman was to add curl yes, but for volume purposes whearea the curl nouveau aka "jherri curl" was meant just to loosen the tightly coiled hair they were born with to give black women more manageability of their tightly coiled hair in essence loosening their tightly coiled hair to a more looser curl pattern. I hope that helps, and please whatever you do .... Do not straighten your hair.

Ma'am! I just had this ENTIRE CONVERSATION on her first video with a lady who does gina curl. She tried to convince me that Gina's formula was different and wasn't the same as a quantum/ogilvie that she had just repackaged for BW. When I asked her about bringing in a chemist, trichologist, a cosmetology instructor, and myself to be trained on her method and compare the processes I was called a hater. You're absolutely right! Jheri curls are supposed to be juicy. This is what so called "naturals" on TH-cam are doing versus seeing your traditional 3c-4c textures.

@@rosepetals6895 It is. Typically speaking white, asian & hispanic women have straight to wavy hair(1a-3a). When you put a chemical process on their hair to curl it, the hair shafts are altered.

Right...then because of lack of knowledge with the chemical, it will become the chemical 's fault! Just like people blame relaxers for their hair falling out! Lol!!! Gorgeousness 😍 Just a heads up, a denman brush isn't meant for detangling as its too firm and rips through the hair. I highly recommend a wet brush. So much more gentle on your strands, and then the denman brush for styling after you have detangled. I wish I would've known this before losing a fourth of my hair density! 🥴

But for her hair it is ok depending on how tangled it is and how she detangles it.

You look gorgeous:) As a licensed stylist of 20 years, it's best to not shampoo every week. A perm is meant to have intense moisture. Shampooing frequently removes the moisture from the shaft and follicle. This is why you have the shedding. You're drying it out....
(Shampooing every 3 weeks may work better for you and minimize shedding❤️).

Keep in mind dry scalp and dandruff are two different things. If you have flakes that's dandruff and that's caused by a fungal overgrowth likely caused from wearing the wig so long. That's why the vinegar rinse gives you so much relief, it's helping kill fungal growth and restore the proper scalp pH.

Very pretty! Try a wide tooth comb instead of brush and only comb in shower WITH conditioner in. Your curl clumps will also be more definded. You will still be able to apply product generously throughout without brushing it in.

Okay girl. First of all, you're beautiful. Second, take it from somebody who had a Jheri curl/curly perm for 10 years. You are making life with that hairprocess unnecessarily complicated, especially when it comes to all the dry flaking sensitive scalp problems that's going on and all the shedding that you showed us. Upkeep for this should be simple and quick by following a few essential rules about this style. You cannot treat a jheri curl/curly perm like it's just natural hair. The only thing similar is the curl pattern. The upkeep and maintenance for it is completely different and doing the wrong things with it will make you miserable unnecessarily. #1 thing to remember: Only use products formulated for a Jheri curl, which includes shampoos, conditioners and most importantly ACTIVATOR. Treating it like natural hair will leave your scalp dry, sensitive, itching, burning and problematic in other ways. Do not use oils or other shampoos. They don't work on your hair anymore and actually wreck your hair. That hair has been permanently chemically changed to not respond to normal hair products anymore. Look for a shampoo and conditioner made by the exact same company that made your jheri curl/curly perm. That is how it is maintained properly. #2) use activator at least once a day and anytime you notice hair or scalp dryness. That is all you need. Avoiding the curl activator will make your curls dry, dull and lead to breakage, dryness and excessive shedding. I'm really sad your hairstylist did not explain all of this. I'm really not surprised you are losing all that hair and that your scalp is acting up. Back in the day, you left the salon with the jheri curl shampoo, conditioner and activator the same exact day you got the jheri curl. I would discontinue the kheritas immediately and get the products made for the jheri curl/curly perm you got. I'm excited to see the next generation trying this out though. This process can be really beautiful. Mine was called, "The Hawaiian Silky". I loved it. I really did.

Your hair is beautiful! Being someone who had a Jheri curl in the 90s you should not be losing that amount of hair with this type of curly perm. We had the Jheri juice so our hair stayed VERY juicy and so did our sofa and pillowcases also. I see a lot of girls on YT opting for this process but do not know how to care for it. If you keep your hair moisturized you will not be having a flaky scalp. Also, we rarely washed our hair with our Jcurl. If you don't keep your hair moist, your new hair will be thick and your older hair will thin out. And a big chop will be in the future. Jcurls made my hair grow like crazy and wouldn't mind having one again. But I cannot do the chemicals anymore. I'm in my 40's now and believe a lot of my health problems are related years of using these chemicals.

I'm in my late 40s and my hair is thinning very bad being natural for 5yrs.. I didn't have these issues with the jheri curl.. my hair grew fast and was thick. I also didn't have it for a long time.. maybe 2yrs at the most.. however, this is a wave nouveau which is a little different than a jheri curl.. I wish I would have remembered about this years ago. my hair is a 4c.. it's kind of weird because the thinning is in the front center... Every where else is thick.. my hair is hard to manage. I'm definitely about to get it now.

Easy on your chemically treated hair sis. Use a shampoo comb to detangle. Also, since your hair is chemically treated now, you should not use vinegar on your hair. Use affirm dry itchy scalp. It’s a higher ph. That vinegar is a low ph, it’s drying your scalp and breaking your hair. Don’t go more than 7 days without washing your hair and section your hair to wash. Detangle start at the ends instead of the mid section. Besides affirm dry itchy scalp, I’d recommend sticking to the products that go with the brand of “curly perm” you used. They are formulated to work with your process. Much love sis I’m a professional licensed cosmetologist and instructor, sharing my 2¢ 🥰

I definitely can’t do a wash and go. It’s dry and absorbs product too quickly. It takes me about and hour every night to detangle and braid or twist my hair up (it does better in braids) just for it to look decent the next day. I just want more defined curls and hair that’s easier to manage. I’ve watched so many videos of naturals getting curly perms and I want to get one but I’m scared it will really damage my hair. I had a Jheri curl when I was 10 or so. I remember that I had to keep it very wet essentially or it would be frizzy. I didn’t wash my hair a ton as it would make my hair dry. Also I don’t think I ever used a brush in my hair at all. I think the brush is a little too harsh. That was a lot of hair to come out for detangling. I would use a wide tooth comb or pick. You may find that your hair will start to thin. A curly perm is a chemical and you have to treat your hair accordingly.

I just wear slick backs I water it and grease it every 2 to 3 days and when I tell you my hair is so healthy you can wash your hair every week. Just make sure you grease it and add water and little to no manipulation until next wash day. and use a bigger comb when detangling

The correct name for the chemical process done in your hair is called a perm.
Relaxer is to relax the curl.
Jerri curl is a brand name from 1970s. Some people call perms Jerri curl like people call food storage containers Tupperware, or a tissue, a kleenex.
Your hair looks great. Now I'm thinking of getting a perm but I'm worried about the 'renewal' process.

    • @angellalamon3776
      @angellalamon3776 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

It is a jherri curl as it mixes both processes that you mentioned. First relaxing the hair pattern then reforming the curl with the perm. It is called Jherri curl because jherri Redding invented the process of combining both processes of chemical straightening then chemical curling. There have always been several products available so it is not called that because of the brand per say but the process itself.

A lot of people wish he would have kept the business. He sold it for $100,000 ... He would have made way more than that if he would have kept the business. Jheri did start up the other businesses though.

I tried again thinking I could handle it well, but again it got over processed. Now I don't want to touch it, lol, but it's so tempting. You always get that "I can handle it" thought, but ugg, ha
