Sorry y'all i only regularly watch like 4 of the same youtubers in rotation lol but yea the youtuber I put of the screen her name is Faye in the City and here is her video link: th-cam.com/video/drVob5b-JAg/w-d-xo.html
I have low porosity hair as well. After styling my hair I like to sit under my heat cap with a shower cap to be sure that it really gets in there. It works wonders. Your leave in and your oils won't just be chillin on your hair and have you with soul glo all over your furniture. Lol
I love how no-fuss and no-hype your videos are. No annoying music, no overacted responses, no flashy, attention-scrambling editing. Just genuine responses from a genuine person! Really loved this.
It's so crazy as someone who was a kid during the Jheri curl 80s days to see people using this product on their natural hair. Who knew? Jheri curls and S curls were chemical processes (almost like 'not all the way relaxed'...texturizer type methods) and the activators were to help you keep the curls moisturized throughout the day. It is hilarious that it works on natural hair and people didn't need the process part. Oh the 80s...
I know right! My mom had a jheri curl and although it grew her hair a lot I mean she had a big ole long jheri curl it was sooooo embarrassing her spraying that activator juice and all the pillows in the house having grease stains! 🤣🤣....and because of that I vowed never to ever touch any Jheri Curl products BUT!!! Never say never because after this video Chile I’m most definitely buying this curl activator for my natural 4c type hair ASAP!!lol can’t wait to tell my mom lol she is going to crack up. 🤣😂😂😅
I used this product in the 80’s and 90’s and this what grew African Americans hair back then because of the moisture that was in your hair. I have been natural for a year and 7 months and I said to myself what can I use in my hair so I won’t become a product junkie, went to my black owned beauty supply store walked around and it jumped right out at me S curl spray and when I tell you that’s all I use and people always ask me how did you get your hair to grow so fast. Hunty that S curl is still that deal. And if you use it while you have protective styles especially braids it is the bomb. Hair stay soft at all times. Your hair turned out gorgeous
This is true this is not new I have been doing it for years and have had massive hair growth but you have to be careful with longer hair because them activators will break your skin out great video though
It's good you got result using the current version of these products. The formulas of many of the former "jerry curl" products have been changed from the 80s. Some of the ingredients that made them effective for retaining growth ( mineral oil, glycerin, wheat protein) have been replaced.
Thank you for mentioning the braids. I use World of Curls activator gel and EcoStyler (the same she used) for my wash and go. Butters, creams, all that foolishness leaves my hair dry as a twig. This is the one combo that has worked wonders (along with olive oil). I was skeptical about how it would do on my braids though, for some reason. I’m about to step up my activator gel game to braids and twists.
True. That’s just a discovery I made myself 2 days ago. I made a video too. I wish I knew about this years ago when I processed my hair. There was no need 🤷🏾♀️🌸
i have been using that stuff since S-Curls were in style whenever I shaved one side of my hair that s-curl gel will help me grow my hair back supper quickly.
Hey Jess, the young lady that started this Faye in the City, has low porosity hair also and she places a plastic cap on her head for about 10 minutes or if you have a bonnet dryer you can sit under it for 5 - 10 minutes after you put your leave-in conditioner on. Let me tell you I tried it and it made all the difference in my low porosity hair. The amount of moisture my hair was able to get just from leaving the plastic cap on after applying my leave-in was unlike anything I had ever had. My leave-in was not sitting on top of my hair when I removed the plastic cap.
Yes i also start letting my conditioner/deep conditioner marinate for 10-15 mins before I detangle. Thats a life saver as well the comb just glide through & the tangles are melted away. I dont even have low porosity but these tips have helped tremendously.
I've learned to apply my leave in while I'm in the shower. So my hair would be 15 maybe 20% dry. Then I applt my hair oil. My hair sucks in all that moisture. For about a good 1 1/2 weeks my hair will be moisturized. Since I recently colored my hair, this method works best for me. I'm 4b in the back and 4c every where else
She does look like a younger version of Angie Stone! 😊 This is history repeating itself except without the chemical process of the cream application, back in the days(in the 80’s) I had a jerry curl the whole 9 yard and it was the thing! Soul glow baby LOL 🙈
Every time I hear the word jheri curl I get a visual from Coming to America when the family got up from the couch.. Anywho... back on topic your hair is cute and turned out great
I found out from a male stylist on youtube that water is really the only thing that gives our natural hair real moisture. So now I look for hair moisturizing creams and products with lots of water in it. That might be why the gel activator works so well.
If water the sercet why not keep a spray bottle of water mixed with nice, scented oils in your purse to use throughout the day could be refreshing in the heat
This video was in my recommended I don’t know who this is but this girl is absolutely gorgeous with oldschool beauty like Gladys knight anita and Angie stone!!!
I love the way the product enhanced and defined your curl pattern. Luster’s Scurl line is an old school product that I have been using on my natural curly hair for over 30 years. I haven’t used the product she used in the video but I’m going to try it. I use the moisturizing spray and that stops my hair from being frizzy if you spray it everyday until you get a moisture buildup.
I have been using the two gels together for years and the combination works wonders. I even mix the two together in a jar to make the application process easier.
I have been doing this mix since 2001 when I chopped my hair down to 1 inch, and it's the only thing I used after washing and conditioning...my hair really grew and became really thick....I used Worlds of Curls for Extra Dry hair formula and Eco styler gel...when I would tell people around me what I used they didn't seem to think it was a good idea...now I see it is getting to be a popular thing...
I recommend using the honey leave in and then using a heated conditioning cap for like 10-15 mins. Helps the product go into my low porosity hair. @@Talia_IceCreamPaints I haven’t used it in a while actually because I don’t like the smell. Now I use aloe Vera juice followed by flax seed gel (both home made). My hair looks great all the time and feels amazing.
@Leslie Harris Thanks for the updates. Ever since I started working for a beauty retailer, I am finally getting a hang of my hair’s relationship to the ingredients in our products. I didn’t know how important this was, but I think this is going to help me understand why the same product has different affects depending on the season and the state of my hair. 😌 Check out Sephora’s website, they have a decent hair care guide. I’d love to know your thoughts.
The Jheri Curl grew every type of hair back in the 80's because of the moisture. I'm surprised it curled the hair without the relaxer base being applied . Shout out to the young lady who tried it FIRST and YOUR hair looks FABOULOUS
I have low porosity hair as well. And recently I tried applying product in my hair while still in the shower/steam in the bathroom and two weeks later my hair was still nicely hydrated.!
If you don't have a steamer at home, GET ONE! I have low porosity hair and the steamer will open your hair strands to receive the product. Thank me later! I feel your pain on that low porosity hair and product sitting on it. (P.S. I've started using Mielle Pomegranate & Honey line for Type 4 hair... it's the truth!)
I’m glad everyone is coming back to this line. I’m relaxed I use the no drip moisturizer on my hair and the juice on my daughter’s natural hair, with the same eco-styler (sometimes) Its so cheap, ppl have been overlooking it for years but i love these products
Your hair looks so healthy, naturally. Thanks for showing how the Eco gel and S-Curl products work together. I love, love, love your results. I'm going to try it today 😃
When of the reasons to Jerry curl was so popular was because of the moisturiser that you put on your hair. Your hair was so moisturized , that it just grew and grew with some people.
Curl activator doesn't make your hair grow. Your hair constantly grows without curl activator. Afro textured hair tends to be very dry, which causes a growth- breakage cycle. The hair breaks off just as fast as it grows. Curl activator keeps your hair moisturized, which stops the breakage and allows the hair to accumulate length.
@@liesdamnliesandstatsweird1934 You're correct. It grates my nerves that we are still talking about products making our hair grow , showing how black people still believe the myth that our hair doesn't grow.
I stopped using eco style gel because of the flaking and my hair would get really dry after a day or two but now I use blueberry bliss curl gel I’ll never use any gel other than that everrr!!!🥰☺️
Always section your hair when applying leave in conditioner and any other hair products like moisturizers and oils. That’s the best way to get the product through your hair. Then use a wide tooth comb to spread product to cenotaph through each section.
Also part of the 4c, coarse, low porosity, high shrinkage club. Just learned about this TODAY 😂 but I'm gonna try it out. Good to see you and your hair turned out so GOOD!
Yasss! I've watched a few videos of natural haired people trying this activator on their curls, and I'm officially sold! I'm taking some crochets out and will be rocking my natural hair for a few weeks, so I will definitely pick some of this up to try.
I guess I found this little trend late, but I am so glad I did. I am also a 4b low porosity girl. I love how cheap this is. I much rather spend my money on good deep conditioners.
Thank you so much for posting this. I have had my little girl since she was 2 months old, and she will be 3 in February. She has the exact same type of hair you do; I have never known what to do with her hair. Watching videos like yours has helped me understand the processes to deal with her hair. I always want her to be proud of her hair, I never want to let her down with not knowing how to care for her hair properly. I just love her natural hair and want to just take the best care of it as I can.
In 1987 my Jr year in college, I was wearing my hair natural. Needless to say, natural hair wasn’t admired in Texas at the time. East coast sister started the trend, like cast members of, “She Gotta Have It”. Products I used were Cream of Nature conditioning shampoo and curl activator. My hair was fabulous, sister would make stupid comments about my hair, but white people loved my locks. Look at us now! It took a few decades, but look at us now.
rogue0621 I truly understand. I moved from Brooklyn to Birmingham, AL 26 years ago with a head full of beautiful healthy, thick natural hair. The comments I got were horrible, how do you comb that nappy hair? Why don’t you relax your hair? Now, everyone has natural hair and I am still rocking my beautiful mane.
My daughter has low porosity hair and products were not absorbing in her hair either. I got so tired of the residue just sitting there. I was recommended to use lotta body and that has worked!! That’s been the only product so I am sticking with them.
I started using the “Lustrasilk Curl & Max activator moisturizer” about a year or so ago. It’s a bit sticky though. So, I like to mix it with water in my spray bottle too!
To be honest I never stop using Eco styler.. I tried Xtreme gel n it did nothing to my hair n the flaking was so bad but it created magic in my daughter's hair. I'm definitely trying that Jerry curl thingy. Beautiful as always Jess!
Black people have beautiful hair. I wish more of us would embrace it. There are many people who share brown skin but we are the only ones with hair like this. I think God set us apart for a reason. Don't let the enemy tell you you aren't beautiful.
Finally my type of hair! Thank you for sharing and experimenting, my mind just got blown. Semi new to the natural journey and this just changed the game for me!
Back in the mid 90’s I used “Hawaiian Silky” curl activator on my natural hair. I laughed throughout this whole entire video! I knew it was going to be awesome!
A some/most relaxers also have an “activator” product that you’re suppose to mix to make the relaxer. That’s why it reminded me of it 😩 Since this curl activator is suppose to be an accompanying product to a jerry curl perm, I just wanted to know if it had any chemicals that may alter my the texture of my natural hair.
Y’all this stuff is like Blue Magic , it was in so many of our houses back in the day and along the way people just decided it wasn’t IT anymore, but it’s always worked for me.
Omg! I was literally randomly scrolling through the comments thinking “maaaan, I’m in Africa right now and wish there was an alternative” and bam! I randomly stop at your comment and read Blue Magic😍😍😍 I love serendipity! Can’t wait to try this.
Still using Blue Magic that comes in the tub. People laugh when I say that's what I use. But my straight face let's them know I'm serious. Some kinda way people evolved from hair grease
I am 53 & have used Long Aid curl activator for the last 30 yrs.. I am now in my 2nd year of my Loc Journey and use curl activator on my edges!!! Which is why I still have edges!!
Wow I’m shook because I have this same exact hair type and I definitely don’t be thinking nothing will work for my hair pattern but wowww this looks so good
Just thought I’d share…The best results I’ve gotten from this combo was to apply the eco styler gel first (olive oil works best FOR ME), define the curl, then define with the worlds of curls activator on top. I have to define the curls (finger coil) in very, very small sections. This process takes me about 2hrs on my 4-5 inch long hair, but my results are so worth it. I do this process in the AM and let it air dry throughout the day. At night I put on a plastic cap. In the morning I spritz with my oil/water combo, fluff the curls and go. This routine lasts me a good two weeks with me refreshening once or twice in certain worn sections with only the activator. My hair is 3C in the front, sides, and kitchen. It’s 4B in the crown (dry area) and it works FOR ME. Remember, All hair types do not respond the same. Diet, water intake, etc. have a say in your results. I am a DIY natural since 2008 but did a big chop in 2020 because was trying locks and decided not to continue that journey (for now…lol).
This whole video is EVERYTHING...your whole demeanor throughout..I was enthralled!...and am going to the store like right now! First time visitor and now brand new subscriber on the strength of this video!😁
Yes I've found that the old school curl activators are way better at curling and defining than those high priced products that do absolutely nothing but dries and flakes.
Do you use heat on your hair? I had to stop using all heat on my hair and get rid of the damage before my curls really started popping with gels. I have 4b/c hair.
i went to an event in november last year and used the s curl gel container ALONE and i was in love, the curls and moisture lasted for a week.. i’m type 4b and i always keep it in my bathroom cabinet 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 YASSS !
I've been doing this for years on my granddaughter's hair, she now 11 year old, did all the natural hairstyle on my daughter's when they were kids they are now 43 and 36. The only different is as hairstylist back in the 70's we would twist and set on rollers, it comes out much more silky with the tension and for length we would twist and put the twist through the roller either standing up on it's base or lying flat depending on the desired style, lol. But I love that my beautiful young gifted and black people are rocking their nature hair.
You and I have almost the EXACT same hair! Low porosity, 4b, similar length. Your hair is just thicker. So I just got all the products and am SUPER excited to try this!!!
Absolutely beautiful curls, ❤️ beautiful skin, beautiful lady.. finally, a real demonstrative video and not just clickbait with banter! Thanks so much for sharing Sis
I’m SO GLAD that you did this!! I was Just Recently thinking about buying some activator for the front of my hair!! Now I see the light..!! THANK YOU!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽👌🏽👊🏽
I’m with you on the low porosity hair thing. Everything just sits on my hair. It’s literally the reason that I don’t use leave in conditioners. It never mixes with whatever gel I have to use to style my hair so I stopped using them. It just left a dull building on my hair and no shine. All those gels that you mentioned also didn’t work for me for wash n gos. No gel worked until I used Photogenic gel, which now is called Phamily Hair Care , the new name. This was a game changer in my hair life. It’s THEE ONLY GEL. That made my hair curl & hang DOWN like everyone else that does wash n god. My hair is fine, 4b?/c, low porosity. U se just that gel & sweet almond mint oil to seal in moisture, no leave in conditioner because it doesn’t mix with that gel.
I have always wanted this look. My hair is no longer permed i would say been more than 5 years now. I have cut several times My hair is dry and still thick. When it wet it looks like that but when dry its just a wild dry bush afro. I am old school and so glad to see young ladies going back to the natural styles. I am going to try it.
One of my retired colleaguesv(65yr old plus) and her daughter have been using it and their hair looked really nice. I didn't ask if thry were using it because I smelled it but great results.

Just know this stuff is toxic coming out that jar, I’ll pass 😫👎🏽
I tried the tube version and it was alright for a couple of days but it was soooo stiff
In just read a review saying to refresh or with the s curl spray and some water
I have low porosity hair as well. And recently I tried applying product in my hair while still in the shower/steam in the bathroom and two weeks later my hair was still nicely hydrated.!
Good idea! I'll be trying that one.
What product do you us
Use
Whoa! This came out gorgeous!
But sis If you do this on your Chanel under a gel/cream for a twist out?? Lol magic
Gorgeous but leaves the hair sticky and it smells so toxic. I tried it and it’s a big NO for me!
Steam before adding the products or can I add my leave in before?

I’m glad everyone is coming back to this line. I’m relaxed I use the no drip moisturizer on my hair and the juice on my daughter’s natural hair, with the same eco-styler (sometimes) Its so cheap, ppl have been overlooking it for years but i love these products
Your hair looks so healthy, naturally. Thanks for showing how the Eco gel and S-Curl products work together. I love, love, love your results. I'm going to try it today 😃
God bless you courageous TH-camrs who are really modern-day hair care pioneers!
Can we get an update on this? I would love to know how long did the curls/style last you? Maintenance?
That’s what I wanna know!!!
Me too!
Exactly!!! Because when I used all 3 together, my hair wouldn’t dry completely!! 😩 It was defined, but still damp & tacky.
Robert Moore II you don’t like your hair damp bro?? I guess it is personal preference but I love it damp
trying it right now i'll tell you the results
The look of skepticism on your face when you did the first section had me ROLLING lol
When of the reasons to Jerry curl was so popular was because of the moisturiser that you put on your hair. Your hair was so moisturized , that it just grew and grew with some people.
That correct..it grew like crazy..
What moisturiser worked the best?
Curl activator doesn't make your hair grow. Your hair constantly grows without curl activator. Afro textured hair tends to be very dry, which causes a growth- breakage cycle. The hair breaks off just as fast as it grows. Curl activator keeps your hair moisturized, which stops the breakage and allows the hair to accumulate length.
@@liesdamnliesandstatsweird1934 right
@@liesdamnliesandstatsweird1934 You're correct. It grates my nerves that we are still talking about products making our hair grow , showing how black people still believe the myth that our hair doesn't grow.
I stopped using eco style gel because of the flaking and my hair would get really dry after a day or two but now I use blueberry bliss curl gel I’ll never use any gel other than that everrr!!!🥰☺️
ceara turnley how are the ingredients!!!
You use it to slick your hair too? Cause I use eco for slicking I love wet line but it doesn't last as long
Yess! That blueberry bliss is heaven sent!!
with bliss u dont get a large container though..
Raven H I havnt slicked down my hair in a while lol😂 but I would use it to hold down my hair because it has a great hold
Always section your hair when applying leave in conditioner and any other hair products like moisturizers and oils. That’s the best way to get the product through your hair. Then use a wide tooth comb to spread product to cenotaph through each section.
Don’t know this girl , but this hair style exactly like this is so fitting and adorable on her!!
Also part of the 4c, coarse, low porosity, high shrinkage club. Just learned about this TODAY 😂 but I'm gonna try it out. Good to see you and your hair turned out so GOOD!

I guess I found this little trend late, but I am so glad I did. I am also a 4b low porosity girl. I love how cheap this is. I much rather spend my money on good deep conditioners.
I’m late July 2022 but I’m running out to the store now🙋🏾♀️
Thank you so much for posting this.

That was the year I went natural for the last time and was ridiculed everywhere I went.
You two are what they call trendsetters and sometimes you have to stand alone and then the world catch up 😚💜
rogue0621 I truly understand.
Sooooo true!!
Anjanette Powell did you get those comments from black people or ypipo?
My daughter has low porosity hair and products were not absorbing in her hair either. I got so tired of the residue just sitting there. I was recommended to use lotta body and that has worked!! That’s been the only product so I am sticking with them.
I finally found an actual type 4 girl that I can believe lol

I started using the “Lustrasilk Curl & Max activator moisturizer” about a year or so ago. It’s a bit sticky though. So, I like to mix it with water in my spray bottle too!
Where can I purchase it at?
I used to use that on my relaxed hair, it was bomb for me. I might have to get back to using that for my natural hair and see what happens.
Ericka Ruiz Walmart
You can just say type 4 😘
Literally my favorite one!
To be honest I never stop using Eco styler.. I tried Xtreme gel n it did nothing to my hair n the flaking was so bad but it created magic in my daughter's hair.
I'm definitely trying that Jerry curl thingy. Beautiful as always Jess!
Same, I found one that worked for me and never tried other ones. Plus I rarely use it.
Black people have beautiful hair. I wish more of us would embrace it. There are many people who share brown skin but we are the only ones with hair like this. I think God set us apart for a reason. Don't let the enemy tell you you aren't beautiful.
I'm 52 and I went natural at 48 years of age. I have been wearing my hair for four years. I ❤ it! I will never go back.
I agree with everything that you said. GOD did indeed create us with a different look and hair for a reason. HE loves us and how we look.🙌🏽
Everyone hair is different and it’s a struggle to find the right products that work for your hair.
Finally my type of hair! Thank you for sharing and experimenting, my mind just got blown. Semi new to the natural journey and this just changed the game for me!

She is too funny, the facial expressions are just cracking me up😂

Back in the mid 90’s I used “Hawaiian Silky” curl activator on my natural hair. I laughed throughout this whole entire video! I knew it was going to be awesome!
What are the long term affects of using curl activator?
@@kokolatte825 nothing it's like using gel
Hawaiian Silky...What!!!!!
I used Hawaiian Silky in my natural hair a few years back and it made it dry and hard. Was so pissed I threw the whole jar in the trash.
Question? Does the Hawaiian silk curl activator good?
what exactly is a curl activator 😩 ion like that word "activator"
Izz C Curl activator is what people used in the 80s to "activate" their jerry curls. It used to be a spray.
What's wrong with the word? Just curious..
A sounds like chemicals lol
Gives me very “relaxer” vibes😂I hope she looked at those ingredients...
Child, we should've paid attention to men using it to get waves! It's been a community staple.💯
Y’all this stuff is like Blue Magic , it was in so many of our houses back in the day and along the way people just decided it wasn’t IT anymore, but it’s always worked for me.
It was always a good product and still is, even the smell is refreshing and def for kids as well
Crystal Hosang yup 👍🏽

@@OnlyOneJess 🤣🤣🤣 turned out great tho
Good grief!
This whole video is EVERYTHING...your whole demeanor throughout..I was enthralled!...and am going to the store like right now! First time visitor and now brand new subscriber on the strength of this video!😁
So, that activator undoubtedly ACTIVATED your natural curl pattern. Jess, you're trying these products are great! Thanks for the suggestions! 👏🏽
Yes I've found that the old school curl activators are way better at curling and defining than those high priced products that do absolutely nothing but dries and flakes.
hmm.. maybe i'll try
save me some money
Which ones?
@@rosemaryrogers1478 Any one will work. I use Hawaiian Silky Curl Activator with the Wetline Xtreme gel.
I'm jealous of people who can use eco shit never did noting for my hair. 🥴🥴 I've tried six different kinds I gave up, it is what it is.
Same here none of them work for my hair same as gels for my edges.
Have u tried gorilla snot it works good for my 4c hair
Do you use heat on your hair? I had to stop using all heat on my hair and get rid of the damage before my curls really started popping with gels. I have 4b/c hair.
Same. It just sits on my hair.
It makes my hair so dry
i went to an event in november last year and used the s curl gel container ALONE and i was in love, the curls and moisture lasted for a week.. i’m type 4b and i always keep it in my bathroom cabinet 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 YASSS !
i went crazy and thick with it

This is beautiful. I love how your hair came out. I have 4C type hair. I will have to try this out. Thanks for sharing!!
Did you try it ?
I've been doing this for years on my granddaughter's hair, she now 11 year old, did all the natural hairstyle on my daughter's when they were kids they are now 43 and 36. The only different is as hairstylist back in the 70's we would twist and set on rollers, it comes out much more silky with the tension and for length we would twist and put the twist through the roller either standing up on it's base or lying flat depending on the desired style, lol. But I love that my beautiful young gifted and black people are rocking their nature hair.
I think Jess should do a wash and go with half ecostyler, and the other half with eco styler and the activator
same!!! I was wondering if the majority of the results were due to the gel.
@@iloveGod1105 I think the difference is that her hair is more moisturized with the Scurl.

Oml same I've been looking for a comment like this
I’m with you on the low porosity hair thing.
The edited scream when you realized the definition sent me LMAO, your hair came out beautifully
That really got me also, 🤣🤣🤣
I love her personality; she made me laugh. I'm still watching, going to see how it turns out.
The quietness and your face expressions was killing me 🤣
I have always wanted this look. My hair is no longer permed i would say been more than 5 years now. I have cut several times My hair is dry and still thick. When it wet it looks like that but when dry its just a wild dry bush afro. I am old school and so glad to see young ladies going back to the natural styles.
