No chance you read this but I just found you… about 2 months ago. And now I bought a OG Xbox and a bunch of games. I’m a 31 sales dude with a 35 year old lawyer brother…. Now we’re playing 11 year old memories while our wives are out! thanks to you!!!
One game I definitely don't hear too many people talk about was "The Suffering" very creepy open world shooter/horror survivor. You a play a prison inmate named torque and you're stuck on an island kind of like alcatraz. The island is being overrun by all the tortured inmate souls of the past and almost everyone is dead. Check it out if you haven't already man its really good.
I used to always play that game and it would give me nightmares and freak me out 😂 still one of my favroite horror shooter games and defeintly a good one at that
The original Xbox was such a well designed console. MS really put a lot of thought and work into the design. Those damn things were built like tanks and worked for years with no problems. They pursued a lot of developers and got a lot of great software as well. Some of my best gaming experiences were on that console.
@@robertt9342 maybe it was a pal region thing but the OG xbox RROD'd really often here. Personally I only had one 360 RROD and two OG's RROD, similar for other people around me. If you could link the stats though that would be great Robert.
I just bought 3 games he mentioned out of curiosity. I'm glad he gave an honorable mention to Darkwatch. Great game. My only 2 additions would be Sudeki, and Metal Arms.
Oh man, Breakdown! I remember reading about it in OXM, and the reviewers were absolutely raving about it. Never saw it in stores, but I loved the demo!
Call of Cthulhu was massively underrated and genuinely gave you a sense of urgency and helplessness, as you spend quite a bit of the first half of the game without any weapons at all, relying completely on stealth hiding places to advance the story. I sorta felt like the east access to weapons in the second half sort of lessened the suspense and genuine scariness, but it's still very worth checking out!
its not happening, will never be,I just finish play that game not 5 min ago pc version,I feel bad that I did not know that exist neat story and very fun
It's still talked about by PC gamers, but I had no idea there was an Xbox version and I doubt many people do. I also didn't know Arx Fatalis was available too, they really had some great console ports of PC RPG's.
I remember playing Voodoo Vince on a demo disk. I still have it actually, it's disk #23. I always regretted not getting a copy of it. But another game that was also on that demo disk, Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, is a hidden gem that happens to be one of my favorites of all time.
you can't forget Toe Jam & Earl III, that one was FANTASTIC in my opinion, and also hilarious. Earl is one of my all time favorite characters in any video game series.
I loved all those games and still have the majority of them in my collection. I was hoping for a long time that Bioware would pick up with Jade Empire again. It wasn't as stellar as KotOR but it was a great starting point for a franchise. Something to build off of. Sadly a sequel will probably never happen.

One reason why I love collecting games is because I love finding games that have been forgotten. That's why the Original Xbox is in my top 3 game consoles of all time. There are so many hidden gems that are also really good. I would like to mention a few that where left out in this video. Oddworld Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld Stranger Wrath, Blinx the Time Sweeper, Blinx 2, and Voodoo Vince are some the best platformers on the Xbox and all of those are exclusives. If you like Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance then check out Dungeons and Dragons Heroes on the Xbox. It's not as good as Baldurs Gate but its still a really good exclusive dungeon crawler, plus it has 4 player co-op. Armed and Dangerous is without a doubt one of the funniest games I have ever played. Its a 3rd person shooter made by locusarts about 4 mercenaries trying to get back the Book of Rule. It looks like crap but the selling point is the hummer. The game references stuff like Star Wars and Monty Python, and also has a gun that shoots Land sharks that seek out enemies and eats them. Its on both Xbox and PC Phantom Dust is a strategy game that is basically a card game turned into an action game. You have a deck of skills that you equip and them use against your opponent and the game has some of the best visuals and music on the Xbox, plus its an exclusive. A remake of the game was announced at this years E3 and will be an exclusive for the Xbox One. Breakdown is an awesome exclusive FPS for Xbox. Think Mirrors Edge minus the free running. The game is completely in first person for everything, from shooting, to picking up ammo, and from melee combat to throwing up in a toilet. I could go on forever talking about Xbox hidden gems because there is so many of them. If you also enjoy collecting hidden gems then I suggest you pick up an Original Xbox. You won't regret it.
My underrated gems, no order... . Kung fu Chaos . ToeJam N Earl 3 . Voodoo Vince . Stubbs the zombie (in the video i know) . Whacked . Whiplash . Malice . Urban Chaos : Riot Response . Spy vs Spy . Worms Mayhem (Worms 3D for Gamecube shouldn't be missed also,,its so fun) . Worms Forts : Under Siege . Jet Set Radio Future . Conker Live and Reloaded (Censored unlike N64 but amaing visuals, both good) . The Warriors . Max Payne 1-2 . True Crime Streets of LA/new york (SUPER buggy but fun, prequels to Sleeping Dogs) . Narc (for its ridiculous power ups ) . Crazy Taxi III . Second Sight (amazing underrated gem) . Def Jam : Fight for NY (A surprisingly well built fighting game with tons of customisation options)
I have worms forts, I really didn't like it... I thought Worms 2 on the computer was amazing though. Flinging yourself across the map to drop TNT on someone then flying as far away as possible to protect yourself
MetalJesusRocks Crimson Skies is one of the ultimate FASA games, but Microsoft kicked but one by one his magnificent developers and trird partys in Xbox 360s generation. I hate this new form of business today
@@johnythefox100 This is the correction I was looking for. They are different games. The first game on PC has a first person mode and was made by Zipper Interactive.
Oh man, this video brings back great memories. The original xbox was the console that finally got me hooked into video games and turned me into a full fledged game. I always had an appreciation for games, enjoying stuff on PC, Sega Genesis/CD, N64, PS1, Game Boy, Game Gear, etc., but there was a combination of my teenage years and the fact that this was the first console I ever owned that didn't just belong to my brother. MJR brings up some great selections. Some of my favorite unknowns were stuff like Voodoo Vince, Blinx the Time Sweeper, Raze's Hell, Advent Rising, Phantom Dust, Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance, Malice, Tork, Unreal Championship, Metal Arms, Nightmare Before Christmas: Oogie's Revenge, XIII, Amped, Aggressive Inline, Deathrow, Sudeki, Dai Senryaku, Otogi, Panzer Dragoon Orta, etc. Fuck, there were so many good ones. I really do need to get back an original xbox as I still have my old library of games.
Cold Fear to me was definitely a great game for Xbox gives an eerie feel with both musical composition and tight quarter navigation with nasty's popping out of every corner.
I loved Stubbs the Zombie! I really do remember playing the demo over and over again from when I got the disks that Xbox sent out with their magazine! Heck I later on even bought the game back when Gamestop was ruling off their Original Xbox games! Awesome!
Kullen64 are you sure you are referring to jet set radio or jet set radio future? Both are entirely different games (JSRF is the sequel) and I have not seen an HD remake anywhere for JSRF
You were holding Advent Rising when you mentioned honorable mentions, but it wasn't included in the pile. Props for including it at all, I LOVE that game! Still weird theres a villain named Barrakka Bahma...
both kingdom under fire games ("the crusaders" was the first one i think, don't know the name of the 2nd) on the original xbox are great. hack and slash with strategy and RPG elements. its a bit like dynasty warriors or N3 at the first look, but you atually command your troops, level them up, watch them fight,... graphics aren't bad at all (facial animations and lipsynch are awful, and textures are low res), and the soundtrack, well...it's some kind of metal, so you'll probably enjoy it ;)
I pick up Xbox consoles for next to nothing and mod them with XBMC.People just usually want to get rid of them because they have "moved on" to the 360,and are anticipating the XboxOne.Little do they know about all the hidden gems on this great console.I gave a console to one of my friend's grandson, and let him have a bunch of games that I had extra copies of including Beyond Good and Evil,Halo, DOA 3, etc. You would have thought I gave him a Ferrari he was so thankful! Keep up the good work.
DEATHROW was my favorite XBOX game of all time! My buds and I played the shit out of it and I actually liked going online and giving tips on how to play it to other people lol. One of the few games I felt like I had info to offer to the rest of the players.
Love Stubbs the Zombie it has an amazing 1950's re-imagined soundtrack as well. Played it originally on PC, but own both. I also enjoy Gun Valkyrie & Panzer Dragoon. Gem recommendation: Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes (xbox exclusive), I don't think it's rare since it typically goes for $10 complete. Long story short it plays very similar to the Diablo series (or a much more complex Gauntlet) & it's up to 4 player co-op.
Finally a reviewer mentions Arx Fatalis and Call of Cthulhu, as relatively unknown as these games were back in the day they also seem equally unknown to the retro reviewing community on TH-cam. Two of my favorite games for the original Xbox along with Tron 2.0 Killer app and the high budget but fairly forgotten above average golf title Outlaw Golf 2.
why tease advent rising and not give it props :( THE COMPANY PROMISED US A TRILOGY WE WILL NEVER GET!!!!! :( I love that game so much. Oooo Majesco how you will be forever missed.
Advent Rising was a fantastic game that suffers from random framerate drops and slowdown, As well ,it also came out 6 months before the Xbox 360 launch so that wasn't helping much either.
Jet Set Radio Future, Phantom Dust, Tenchu, and Fatal Frame 2 would be my additions to this list. Star Wars Battlefront 2 is also a really awesome game, but it was kinda high profile and not really "hidden". Definitely a gem though.
Yes, Jest Set Radio Future. Spiritual sequel to the Jet Grind Radio on the Dreamcast. I was surprised that the music is equally as good as the original. And the real positive is the smoother better controls!!!! And yes, Fatal Frame 2 .... Nice!
Ninja Gaiden Black, best game ever coded. Xbox version put all the other versions to shame. the Difficulty was dead on, the control feel was tight as hell. I got to point i would play that for "perfect" rounds. Master Ninja Touney was awesome too. I Placed 300. Thanks for honorable mentioning that!
Advent Rising, Black, Freedom Fighters, Enter the Matrix, GUN, and Crazy Taxi 3 were some of the best Original Xbox games that not too many people knew about as well.
Great list. I believe my O Xbox needs to live forever because i never want to stop being able to play Toe Jam & Earl 3, Gunvalkyrie, Outrun 2, Crash & Burn, Crimson Skies, Iron Phoenix, Star Wars KOTOR and Blinx 2.
One Xbox exclusive I never hear/see ANYONE talk about is Whacked!. It's one of my favorite games ever. It's way too much fun with a friend. It's a little hard to explain but it's kinda like a pretend game show with crazy characters and fun gamemodes and it's absolutely hilarious. A hidden hidden gem.
Not an Xbox exclusive, but Battle Engine Aquila was a really good game with a cool concept. Was disappointed that it didn't do well. Also Unreal Championship 2 Liandri Conflict is really good if you are into arena shooters. Controls are great for a game that is so fast paced for a console game.
Nice! Breakdown is mentioned. That was an excellent game, but had a misleading difficulty setting. I had to turn it down to easy because it was tough even on normal difficulty.
what great insight! I remember my mom buying me the xbox when it was released. I sold it many years ago in a yard sale. but today I came across one for 10 bucks at a thrift store. I couldn't pass it up, and now I will hunt down all these games you mentioned.
Dear MetalJesus, You forgot Buffy the vampire slayer. A game based on the hit T.V. show this game was absolutely astonishing; Voice acting was terrific done by actual actors from the show and a few slight rpg elements made this third person fighter game fucking excellent. The game was an xbox exclusive and let me tell you that game is definitely a hidden gem.
Oh, how the ending made me laugh. After having found a minority of my previously played and beloved Xbox games, I've recently re-bought an Xbox with the desire to re-live many of those great memories, as well as potentially expand and buy some Xbox games that I never got to look into back in the day - there are some particularly great looking games on this list, definitely worth a try and add to my collection. Though the ones I played and really liked were all pretty much shown at the end of the video as the Honorable Mentions - Breakdown, Conker: Live and reloaded, Morrowind, Shenmue II. Though I also remember games like Time Splitters: Future Perfect and Gauntlet: Dark Legacy being quite addictive games, but I understand these were not games entirely devoted to the Xbox as they were released on the other mainstream consoles at the time as well. Never the less, great list, it's really given me ideas for re-building on my collection, great work :)
I prefer the Duke controller to some of the other game controllers I have. It's just so big, clunky, and dinosaur-like... I love it! Mine was shipped very poorly to my house, so a large chunk of the plastic around the left trigger chipped off during transit. It left a pretty sharp area around the left trigger, so I just pulled out some scissors and rounded it out so as to make it more comfortable. The left trigger still works great though!
Personally I would say you're missing Sudeki and I think the storyline is one of Jade Empire's strongest traits with the massive plot twist towards the end, but wow, I absolutely loved the look of pretty much all of these games and most I've never even heard of, thanks very much for uploading! :D
3:06 Is one of my favorite games on the X bone. It is also my third favorite Starwars game, after Starwars Battle Front and then Knights of the Old republic.
Thanks for the info video M.J. I got Gun Valkyrie, and am loving it. Arx Fatalis and Yager too, they're aren't that expensive and are well worth even more than they sell for!
Xyanide was supposed to be released for GBA & Nokia N-Gage as well. Idk about Game Boy version but NG version was actually nearly finished and there're betas of the game that can be found in the web
metaljesus I found another hidden gem, it's Shrek Super Party, most people would say it's gay based off of the title, but it's actually my all time favorite party game on any console
Thank you for the Crimson Sky hit at the end. That game consumed me. I loved the missions and it felt so much like I was the controlling element (until yo get in the balloon). Metal Jesus...Rocks.
I know this is one of your older videos, but I've just watched it for the first time. One of the old Xbox games that I liked to play with my son was Brute Force. We played it many times and we always enjoyed it.
Sudeki is a big hidden gem for me. I hardly ever hear anyone mention that game, but i loved it back in the day. Id love to replay it, but its not backwards compatible.
Breakdown for the xbox is definitely a hidden gem. Its a realistic FPS/fighting game made by namco, I've never seen anything else like it besides the Chronicles of Riddick maybe...thats another one too lol
This is of my favourite channels on YT and the OG Xbox is one of my favourite consoles as well. I play with even today, and the games you reviewed are great man.

Oddworld Munch's Oddysee, Oddworld Stranger Wrath, Blinx the Time Sweeper, Blinx 2, and Voodoo Vince are some the best platformers on the Xbox and all of those are exclusives.

jet set radio future and sega gt 2002 were bundled with new xboxs for a while so alot of people know about jet set radio future
Me too.
The games I probably played the most on my original Xbox which wasn't a Halo game were Jade Empire, Sudeki, Voodoo Vince and Fusion Frenzy.
Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay
JSRF
Raze's Hell
Sudeki
Amped
Star Wars: Obi Wan
Amped isn't hidden and it's pretty easy to find. Same with Riddick.
Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders & Kingdom Under Fire: Heroes maybe? I love those games!
I agree those games are golden and extremely fun
DEATHROW was my favorite XBOX game of all time! My buds and I played the shit out of it and I actually liked going online and giving tips on how to play it to other people lol. One of the few games I felt like I had info to offer to the rest of the players.
Morrowind was probably the best game ever on the Xbox
I totally agree
Walter White yeah but not a forgotten gem at all to be honest and neither was conker live and reloaded
nahh it was good but
on pc its better and also now halo 2 is probably the best game actually on the og xbox
LOVE THAT GAME. But not a hidden gem.
OMG...Jade Empire was so bad ass!!
Seriously i wish they would finish that series
Advent Rising was a fantastic game that suffers from random framerate drops and slowdown, As well ,it also came out 6 months before the Xbox 360 launch so that wasn't helping much either.
sudeki was a nice game dont know if it was on other consoles but that was one of the few i really liked on xbox
Wreckless: The Yakuza Missions
Wow that water in Yager looks amazing for the specs of the original Xbox!
Oh, and Sudeki. Fun game, fun game only bad part is the final boss and the anti-climatic ending.
Amped, Star Wars Clone Wars, Tetris, MVP Baseball 2004, Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis
Nice!
I second JSRF and Phantom Dust. Phantom Crash (not related to Phantom Dust) is another excellent game.
Phantom Dust was in Honorable Mentions
solitarylonewolf Nice games! What about Psychonauts?
I've never played Psychonauts, sorry. I didn't really dig the art style. Was it fun at least?
Predator Concrete Jungle
Time Splitters Future Perfect I know they arent just for the og xbox but these two are worth noting.
you totally forgot Psychonauts man
Ninja Gaiden Black, best game ever coded. Xbox version put all the other versions to shame. the Difficulty was dead on, the control feel was tight as hell. I got to point i would play that for "perfect" rounds. Master Ninja Touney was awesome too. I Placed 300. Thanks for honorable mentioning that!
STUBBS THE ZOMBIE YES I LOVE THAT GAME
Advent Rising, Black, Freedom Fighters, Enter the Matrix, GUN, and Crazy Taxi 3 were some of the best Original Xbox games that not too many people knew about as well.
Ininja, Blinx: Time Sweeper, JSRF?
Great list. I believe my O Xbox needs to live forever because i never want to stop being able to play Toe Jam & Earl 3, Gunvalkyrie, Outrun 2, Crash & Burn, Crimson Skies, Iron Phoenix, Star Wars KOTOR and Blinx 2.
During the honorable mentions, what's the game after ninja gaiden / underneath dark watch. The one with the anime like cover. Thanks in advance
+Jonathan Gutierrez Shikigami no Shiro
One Xbox exclusive I never hear/see ANYONE talk about is Whacked!. It's one of my favorite games ever. It's way too much fun with a friend. It's a little hard to explain but it's kinda like a pretend game show with crazy characters and fun gamemodes and it's absolutely hilarious. A hidden hidden gem.
I specifically scrolled through the comments to see if someone mentioned Whacked! Great game!........and a total hidden gem
I love Stubbs the Zombie
Not an Xbox exclusive, but Battle Engine Aquila was a really good game with a cool concept. Was disappointed that it didn't do well.
Also Unreal Championship 2 Liandri Conflict is really good if you are into arena shooters. Controls are great for a game that is so fast paced for a console game.
Quantum Redshift anyone? No? Okay :c
Nice! Breakdown is mentioned. That was an excellent game, but had a misleading difficulty setting. I had to turn it down to easy because it was tough even on normal difficulty.
Phantom Dust
GoldenGoose GG phantom dust is the best game on Xbox!
REALLY?
I have it now for PC :3 been playing it since I read the comment haha THANX!
what great insight! I remember my mom buying me the xbox when it was released. I sold it many years ago in a yard sale. but today I came across one for 10 bucks at a thrift store. I couldn't pass it up, and now I will hunt down all these games you mentioned.
Why are you called Metal Jesus?
Because he has long hair like jesus and listens to metal music
He's made of metal n his name is Jesus
He’s made of jesus and looks like metal
Dear MetalJesus,
You forgot Buffy the vampire slayer. A game based on the hit T.V. show this game was absolutely astonishing; Voice acting was terrific done by actual actors from the show and a few slight rpg elements made this third person fighter game fucking excellent. The game was an xbox exclusive and let me tell you that game is definitely a hidden gem.
Where was Kung fu chaos
14:08 For anyone wondering the Japanese video game is called Shikigami no Shiro, AKA Mobile Light Force 2
That last part was a bit creepy :-/
Never the less, great list, it's really given me ideas for re-building on my collection, great work :)
dude??? No Sudeki???
Kudos mate, I thought the same thing!
+Ian Parker Ikr
I am hoping Sudeki becomes backwards compatible with the XboxOne.
Original Xbox with his Duke controller is THE BEST for me.
I have big hands the duke works perfectly for me!
Brute Force.
OMG Stubbs! i loved that game! the soundtrack and upbeat characters just wrapped this game game!
Yo uforgot to mention jet set radio future.
Personally I would say you're missing Sudeki and I think the storyline is one of Jade Empire's strongest traits with the massive plot twist towards the end, but wow, I absolutely loved the look of pretty much all of these games and most I've never even heard of, thanks very much for uploading! :D
Was blinx 1/2 well known?
I love the Blinx games :D
Satanic Dogfish I really wish I could get an xbox again to play them x.x
VictinisClaw I play 2 on the 360, but I can't remember if 1 works on it as well.
Satanic Dogfish Nice I have a 360 if I can get it as well it would be nice
Gunvalkyrie reminds me of a spiritual successor of Burning Rangers that might have been originally planned for the Dreamcast. Great video!
Jet Set Radio Future?
one of my favorites!
not hidden.
Both Otogi's were awesome. I loved Republic Commando, got it for PC as well. Daughter loves Stubbs the Zombie, got the soundtrack as well!
If i would ever rob anybody it would probably be this guy. Id let you keep the guitars and stuff though since you a cool dude... :)
What a bizzare comment
3:06 Is one of my favorite games on the X bone. It is also my third favorite Starwars game, after Starwars Battle Front and then Knights of the Old republic.
no Jet Set Radio Future?
+Go Ku It was bundled with the console so it's not exactly a hidden gem.
not hidden.
5:25 make me remember the music parodies on the Console Wars channel,so awesome!
...Wh-What? Republic Commando isn't a hidden gem. It's an incredibly popular game.
not really. it's totally slept on.
Mad Dash Racing and ToeJam and Earl III need more love.
Sudeki
Thanks for the info video M.J.
I got Gun Valkyrie, and am loving it. Arx Fatalis and Yager too, they're aren't that expensive and are well worth even more than they sell for!
Xyanide was supposed to be released for GBA & Nokia N-Gage as well. Idk about Game Boy version but NG version was actually nearly finished and there're betas of the game that can be found in the web
metaljesus I found another hidden gem, it's Shrek Super Party, most people would say it's gay based off of the title, but it's actually my all time favorite party game on any console
12 yrs. Where did thetime go. Agree with your game selection. Your games look so pristine too
Awesome that you mentioned Call of Cthulhu, i played it on the PC and its one of my favourite games of all time :)
One of the coolest videos for Original Ecs Byyyks, but still many of those need to be ported on Xbox One
We played it many times and we always enjoyed it.
yup that game is great it was a bit well known I think among xbox gamers
Sudeki is a big hidden gem for me. I hardly ever hear anyone mention that game, but i loved it back in the day. Id love to replay it, but its not backwards compatible.
Breakdown for the xbox is definitely a hidden gem. Its a realistic FPS/fighting game made by namco, I've never seen anything else like it besides the Chronicles of Riddick maybe...thats another one too lol
Good call on Yaegar and nice honorable mention for Crimson Skies. My own hidden gem would be Battle Engine Aquila.
This is of my favourite channels on YT and the OG Xbox is one of my favourite consoles as well. I play with even today, and the games you reviewed are great man.
