Just installed some LED parking lights in my 2016 Jetta thank you for the helpful video
You will definitely become the top 1 who makes cracks
One issue with these - The LED only as a plastic housing, and it's only a couple of inches away from the high beam lamp.
The high beam lamps get very hot, so can easily melt the plastic casing of the LED.
One solution I found was to use the flat-faced COB style LED bulbs, so they're almost flush with the reflector, and don't have a 'line of sight' to the high beam lamp.
There's even less room on the Canadian (and presumably USDM) 2.0L TDI. The airbox on the left side and the Fuel Filter on the right side make it virtually impossible to get pliers in there.
I think I have to remove the bumper to pull the headlight housings off.
Looks good , I tried clearing fault code with OBDeleven as per the steps suggested in VW Jetta but it didn’t work for me . Can you please advise for any alternative steps to longcode with OBD eleven to clear out the fault codes .
U.S. sidemarker lamps and reflectors are required in addition to front-facing parking lamps. The parking lamps over here can be illuminated in either an amber or white color. Most newer German cars keep the "European-style," separate, white bulb; but it's most common to see cars in the U.S. have the turn signal act as a parking lamp as well using a dual-filament bulb.
Looks good! I wish my GTO used mini bulbs like that instead of a resistor path for the standard low beam bulb.

I doubt you can do that.
How do you remove bulb out error for back up lights (LED) for the same car?
If you use an incandescent and not an LED will it still throw a code?
No, traditional incandescent will not throw a code. LEDs draw much less power, so the computer thinks its an open circuit. A much easier hardware fix would be adding a load resistor across the circuit and one will not need to software mod.
Adam Nollmeyer thanks for the reply! I had a hard time finding yellow T10-194 bulbs. I ended up finding some on a lighting site but I think they’re 3.5 watt instead of 5. Will use them in the meantime until W5Ws come back in stock or until I figure out this load resistor business. You don’t have a video on that or hardware you recommend, do you?
Sadly Byte 27 Bit 02 did not get rid of the error message for me.

These OEM bulbs look horrible next to LED H7s.
Ok so I tried installing some OSRAM LED side lights. I managed to get the side light lamp out and install the side light. Strangest thing happens. If the replacement LED is in place and turn the lights on it works for like a few seconds and goes out. If I put the original bulb in nothing happens at all. So now I have no side light bulb on the drivers side. How do I fix this.

Please dont use Xenon its guranteed to fuck over anyone on a bike/moped to the point where we are genuinely 100% blinded if we have the visor down(bugs in the eye are not a good idea when driving even at 30 km/h)
I deliver papers for a living and every time it rains and someone shows up with those stupid ass lights we genuinely have bigger issues then if you drove at us with more traditional long distance headlights

Where did you find the info for the coding?
On VCDS it must be unchecked the option?
i have the osram led, they don't show on the check panel the error message... so, in my opinion, you don't need to cancel with the program you are show to us at the end of you video: first time i have mounted these led on the headlights they have released this error message on the check panel but after i have turned off the car. After i have turned on the car and the error message has disappeared. Now these leds are ok without any VAG programs intervenction.

I've just bought a 2008 Passat (not able to program I've been told) and changed the parking lights globes for LED's and added a 5watt load resistors on both sides.
The right side works well but the left parking light just goes on for about 4 sec and than turns off again.
With an error message in the dashboard that the left parking light is not working.
How can I fix this issue?
I replaced in my o5 an they turn on an immediately go out

Do you know how to turn off cold diagnostics e.g bulb out error for low beam as i cant figure out how im gonna be able to buy canbus resistor and add it in, so i rather just wipe the check for that bulb out
Why would you want to for low-beam? Don't.
@@CraigsDIY oh because i bought some led h7 bulbs that said they were canbus but once in they showed up bulb out error, the only fix is to do some wiring with some load baring resistors but i have no clue how to attempt that
@@MrWaheedulHaque Yes you can just select LED headlights in ODB11 and this will fix it for you.. Did this on my Golf 6 GTI when i swopped from OEM helogen fittings to OEM Xenon with LED... I am just struggling to now get rid of the high beam left and right warnings.. Then all is working 100 %

I don't know which DRL you are referring to. But these are little low power bulbs intended to replace T10 5 W incandescents, they wouldn't really suit as any factory DRL. On this car with the halogen headlights, the real DRLs are built into the high beam bulb as a single bulb / dual filament arrangement.

Really nice and pro clips on your channel Craig! Can you maybe recommend some OBD Bluetooth tool (coding req!) that will work with iOS on iPhone&iPads etc. Than you.
The only way I'm aware of using iOS would be using a VCDS wifi tool, which you then access using any web browser including iDevice. Look up HEX-NET - very expensive sadly. OBDEleven is Android only, regular VCDS is Windows. It would be cheaper to get a cheap Android/Windows tablet dedicated for the purpose I think.

I don't know about Carista. They advertise VW support so you can probably set the LED option, but it looks like you have to pay for it. Not sure if you can code manually.
How do they hold up, concerning they are constantly heated from very hot halogen main bulbs...?
I have found very decent cheapo ebay W5W bulbs, but since they are in pretty much same position as in Golf, they suffer from overheating. When halogens are off, no problem.
Fine so far although the main beams aren't used much. But quality LEDs should be very resistant to heat and they're not that close to them.

The OBDII shown in the video, does it have to be the ordinary OBD11 or the OBD11 PRO?
You can code the adjustment manually without a subscription.
i'm not sure how to do this. as yet I have no OBD device . I have limited funds so I imagine I would purchase the cheaper OBD device but I am not sure which ones can set the bit. Also once set and an LED is put in to replace the filament bulb will it then show up on the dashboard as a fault if the LED is in place with the bit set.?
Any OBD with software that lets you do coding will work, so long as you know the coding. The point of it is to remove the bulb-out error, as shown.

This didn't work for me, 2010 Golf. After I do the coding (it says coding completed) and reset the faults, they come back in about 3 seconds.
I got it working now, had to change Byte 11 Daytime running lights active too!

If this is a 1.4 golf, how reliable is it and have you had any problems with your timing chain?
It's the 122 hp 1.4 TSI. No problems but it's low mileage and have only had it for a few months.
Craig's DIY Car I heard that the 1.4s had problems with their timing chains and or their tensioners, you might want to look into that...
You need the VW GOLF MK6 2.0 GT TDI 140BHP then remove the DPF get the EGR BLOCKED OFF and get it REMAPPED. The TSI is shit and gives problems and very slow compared to the GT TDI and also it sucks more fuel because its petrol. Shit car you have. I mean shit engine! Its slower and sucks more fuel and also have alit of common problems as mentioned by the other guy

Not psychic sorry. Did you try flipping them over, LEDs are usually polarity sensitive.
Same thing happened to me and bought a resistor for the LEDs

The bulbs are the same, and I don't think the Mk5 needs coding.
