- This week I drove a 2006 AP2 Honda S2000 and thoroughly enjoyed driving this Japanese sports car icon!! Not only a screaming motor (with VTEC) but a lovely manual transmission.
Not much to complain about with the S2000 aside from the lack of adjustability was causes the cabin to be a bit tight for taller people. Aside from that, the driving experience is both exhilarating and analog... I left wanting more, and thats always a good sign!

When I first drove one I instantly fell in love, I was taking a sharp turn in high second gear and as the turn started to straighten out I gave it all it had…..aaaand brooo, I shot out that turn what felt like a rocket!! it was one of the craziest experiences Ive ever had in my life. The s2000 is a very special car indeed!

The gearbox, engine, handling, and the aesthetics are all great - even better when combined together. The S2000 was a pet project for Honda and it shows. So much of the car was exclusive to this model only. That it was created from the start as a roadster is what really makes the S2000 special for me. It was a great successor to Honda's earlier S car lineup. Also, the S2000 wasn't intended (or priced) to compete with the Miata, but the likes of the Porsche Boxster and the BMW Z3. No need to bag on the Miata.

I had a new one in black and the xenon lights used to get me the finger ( cause they didn't flex) otherwise was awesome the one that got away. now with a 2017 991.2 Carrara ...put an order in for a GT3 touring praying for that...good review thanks

I have an AP1 and the redline is 9,000 RPM's, not 8800... I take to 9k everyday not 8800 .. the AP1 makes 240hp and the AP2 makes 237hp..get it right dude..research it..I lived it⁶.. AP2 lost 3hp but gained 9 ft pounds trqned

I couldn't do 0-60 under 6 sec in my stock Ap1. 6.0 and 14.5 qt mile. Maybe in cooler conditions without hardtop and not a full tank
Ya... I think it's only possible with a 1 foot rollout and probably dropping the clutch at a point that's unrealistic for repetitive use

Bit ott about the height I'm 6ft 2 and didn't have a problem at all with fitting in the car
Everyone's body's different... I have a long torso so my head's high while my arms end up being further from the (fixed in place) steering wheel than I like

Not "was" but "is." I had an AP1 and have an AP2, and IMHO, there isn't a better sport car for the money.

@@Reoniz Tough call. The AP1 has a more aggressive powerband and suspension, the AP2 has more torque and softer suspension. Corner to corner the AP1 has the advantage, for drivability the AP2 gets the nod. All things considered, I'd say the AP1 is the better car. Oh, and, that AP1 is still in the family-it has almost 200K miles and is my son's daily driver. Cheers!
@@TS-mo6pn that's nuts!! (That your sons still daily-ing it) I really wanna drive both an AP1 as well as a modded up S2K to understand more of the full spectrum of this truly special platform.
@@Reoniz Yeah, the engine is about clapped out, he's talking about putting an Accord V6 or a Corvette V8 in it. Pretty amazing what you can do to an S2K. Shigeru Uehara is a genius.

@@Reoniz i found a 05 sebring with 115k miles 10/10 vins for 19.5k. Was debating that or a gr86 for my next car
Cool factor wise... it's hard to not go for the S2K... on the other hand, the 86 is almost certainly gonna cost less in maintenance and will generally be more reliable
If you can make it work, you gotta go with the Honda 😎😤
(Ps. I'm gonna do a current Gen 86/FRS/BRZ review at some point so stayed tuned for that)

Fell bad for you not to be able to modify your car for more fun due to California BS laws.
Haha it's not too bad, a lot of people have heavily modified S2K's here... amongst other cars.
But I respect the owner of this particular S2K for mostly leaving it alone 👍👍
AP1 is better because it revs to 9!! but both r great

AP1 is inferior
Honda made a lot of improvements to the AP2. They have more HP, more torque, bigger and wider wheels, suspension improvements and a glass rear window.
@@charleslenoir6080 but it don’t rev as high as the ap1 a catostrophic 9,000 rpm so there for the ap1 is the superior track monster n the ap2 is more of a daily s2000.
@@bige7186 High revs don't mean a thing unless they are producing more power. The AP2 makes more HP and more torque.
