First outbreak in Mid 80's. I was 47 yo. (Stupid brain fart, trying to get back with my ex.) Prescription drugs and cream prescribed. Found out real quick I can't do prescription meds. Chris D I got herpes in August 2019. I’m gonna be honest with you I don’t know which one exactly I have. I just know I got genital herpes. My doctor didn’t specify about which one I had. I just know my first outbreak I was in a lot of pain, it was extremely painful. And yes I am single. I’ve been going through a depression because of this matter.

I went to my primary doctor and at first he didn’t know what it was so I got tested. Then I finally went to see my gynecologist and she told me that I was positive for herpes. So yeah. It’s just very depressing and hard.

Hey man, sounds tough bro. I don't know what you're going through, but, as I've mentioned to others in the thread, it's time to diversify life. I have only dated a few people in my life and now I feel like my options are limited. But, I do feel like the avenues exist to meet people. If you are having difficulty talking about a vulnerability, you might just need to talk more to people like me. Using a journal can also help to practice speaking about what makes you vulnerable. As a guy, it can be tough, but, it's also a practice like anything else. It's time to work towards coming to peace with yourself and others who also have herpes. I'm here too man!

Hey this was very powerful. I have been struggling so much with herpes after I had been diagnosed when I was 23, I’m now 26 and it still is very difficult. Not necessarily physically, it’s just emotionally and mentally that is the most difficult. And as a male I always try to be confident and dominant, and just have that feeling of self worth but a lot of the days especially lately it’s been difficult. Because I live in a small town and a lot of people know I got it because with a certain group I used to be very appealing and sexually desirable and now I just feel like not that way to my close female friends. And I’m just having to go out there and meet new women which is already difficult and now it’s even more difficult for me having less confidence with having Herpes. But this video seemed to encourage me a little bit

Time to invest in your spiritual and mental game bro. It's time to take some me-time. Let go of the sexual stuff and the physical stuff for a little while and just relax into a new you. Letting go of what you know can be challenging, but it's how you will grow and become even more desirable to women. Especially the women you want. Best friend women, who accept you as you are. It makes me so sad that so many people who have herpes in the comments are lacking basic info. Like how does a doctor give that type of diagnosis and not give them a super thorough convo about how it’s passed on ect ect - it makes me wonder what other illnesses doctors don’t bother to educate their patients on. When I told a doctor I had blisters they dint even tell me I'm hpv positive. They just gave me an ointment from cvs. Thats some bullshit coz I found out from ma sis the truth

What you'll also find out is that when you go to the doctor and ask them to test for STDs they test for only HIV, Chlamydia, Syphilis and Gonorrhea. Herpes isn't even a part of the panel. I asked multiple doctors why they don't test and they said they only test in the instance of an outbreak because if they did a blook test almost everybody would test positive. Let that shit sink in

For me, the only thing that really changed was my thoughts about dating and sex. I still look forward to practicing guitar and weight lifting. Essentially, you have a skin rash that will come and go throughout your life. Yes, it can be more serious if it's not treated properly. However, there are a TON of people out there also looking to meet others. Don't give up. A lot of STIs which were previously considered "forever", are now curable.

Thanks. I was diagnosed, realized my partner cheated on me, and have now left him. On top of it, the relationship was abusive and I got fat. I've lost the majority of the weight, but the self worth thing is big for me. Having herpes makes me hesitant to even try dating. This video has been really helpful.

Four, take time for yourself to let things mellow. Get treatment and before you start dating again, re-ground yourself into who you are and want to be. Now is the time to take a breath and remind yourself, the initial shock and fear will pass and you'll have time to grow and feel great again. You will recover!
Agreed, sex/dating is different now and rejection sucks. But keep in mind, that when people reject because of herpes, it's because of the herpes, not you. If you take time to develop yourself in a few different areas like music, sports, books, games, etc., you will find a new you. Then, come back to dating/sex and find the right person. They are out there! But, don't make your world about them. It's about you. If you get depressed/sad reach out! I'm here, and there are others too!

banglajobs I am the same way every since I got warts I can’t seem to get my body balanced and I get those sores inside my mouth that hurt so bad. if you have oral herpes that is type 1 , if you have genital herpes you have type 2 ....or both
Type 1 and type 2 are not completely different; they are two very similar strains of the same virus. They are both "herpes simplex virus," type 1 and type 2. HSV1 prefers to live in the mouth and so is usually "oral herpes;" however, it can be transferred to the genitals through oral sex. This does NOT mean it "becomes" HSV2; it means you now have genital HSV1. HSV2 is known for causing genital herpes because that is where it prefers to live, but it can (rarely) also be transferred to the mouth. Both cause basically identical symptoms, although genital HSV1 tends to be less active than genital HSV2.

I went out with a guy twice when he told me that he has herpes. It did scare me, and he sensed my discomfort. I like him, but afraid of catching it. I do know how common it is. But, it does scare me. We reconnected recently, and he wants sex, so feeling a bit uncomfortable. He said that he has never had an outbreak. He said that they found it on a blood test. My past Partner had HSV2, and I never caught it. So, some thinking to do, as I really like him.

I've had genital herpes for over 30 years, at 53 contracted HPV too. My immune system has been so broken at my age due to stress and life I am in a constant state of outbreaks inside my mouth with sores and in the genital area. Take some time and relax. TONS of people get herpes. It's essentially a skin rash that comes and goes throughout life (yes, it can get worse if it's not treated properly). Before you get concerned about dating/sex, make sure you know yourself first. What do you want out of life and a partner. Take the time to write it out and talk with people. Herpes, like any STI, means you need to take time for yourself first. Once you feel grounded again, your perspective will be different, I promise!

Alexandra Im 60 years old and both me and my husband have herpes and my husband passed away from heart failure in 2020… I recently was getting to know a man and I was really torn on how to tell him I have herpes. I totally understand. Yes, you have the right to be angry because he didn't disclose to you. Here's the thing that helps with the forgiveness and the blame... if the sex was consensual then you made the choice to have sex as well knowing that there are always risks involved. Your partner may not have known or decided not to tell. Just know you're not alone and the majority of the population has herpes.

I have herpes and im happy with someone who accepts me. Oh, and the sex is great. It does not end lifes. Once you learn and accept it, it becomes easier. Approximately 3 billion people have herpes. No one is alone in this.

@@melissarambo7998 you should double check...in 2015, 3.7 billion was diagnosis with hsv 1 and around 400million with hsv2.. so in 2019 we crossed the 4 billion trust me

Jaylene Ramirez no it doesn’t mean you have it. Go to the doctor. You may be able to get some medication just in case you see signs. Maybe. Otherwise you will have to just look out for signs or go back and get a blood test here in 4-6 months.

For myself I want to live my early 20s just doing my own thing with as many sexual partners as I like and I do not see this being a possibility
For a woman it’s easier because their vaginas still have value, but if your a male your sex Life is pretty much shot

First, there is CURRENTLY no cure (though new trials are moving forward for 2019/2020), this was also previously true about Syphilis (curable), Gonorrhea (curable), and Chlamydia (curable), so, don't give up. Second, try to keep in mind, that this only impacts your previous sex/dating life. Not your future life. You are in control of your future life. Third, treatment is very manageable. Four, take time for yourself to let things mellow. Get treatment and before you start dating again, re-ground yourself into who you are and want to be. Now is the time to take a breath and remind yourself, the initial shock and fear will pass and you'll have time to grow and feel great again. You will recover!
Now, from a guy's perspective. It's only a big deal, if you only think about dating/sex. Now is the time to take time for yourself and learn about yourself. Relax, there are plenty of people that will understand and still want to have sex/date. But, I suggest taking more time for you first. If you get depressed/sad, talk to people, like me, and write down how you are feeling. Explore things like music, travel, and hobbies and get to know yourself.
Idk if that’s really true. Women tend to value the feelings of others slightly more than men. Men can be really mean. It’s not easy for anyone.

Life is a lot more than sex/dating Amr. Before that, you should really spend some time with yourself and discover some of the other areas of life: traveling, work, spiritual practices, books, music, etc.! There is a lot to work on and practice. When you know yourself better, you will be able to recover and feel more confident. It takes time, but it is worth it. If you get depressed/sad, just reach out and talk to someone, like me. If it's just you, write down how you are feeling, and spend time with yourself. Life has changed, it doesn't have to suck.

Now the more specific stuff for a guy: the basic point is, you should aim to being more well rounded. Any STI, really just impacts your sex life, with the exception of HIV (which is also moving towards curable trials). But, the point is, yes, dating/sex is impacted to the extent that dating/sex is your life. What about music, spiritual practices, intellectual pursuits? There are a ton of areas of life that need development too. I recommend working towards getting to know yourself better a few areas before putting so much emphasis on dating/sex. Not forever, just a little bit of time and practice in another area that makes you happy. Then, come back to the dating game and you will find something better... relief! Yes, you will have to face the fear of being rejected, but, keep in mind, if it's because of the herpes, it's because of the herpes! Not you!

So, did you tell all of your dates that you have the herpes virus before you went out on these dinner, lunch, happy hour dates? As I see it, as long as the dates were "dutch"1e you pay for yourself, I'm in agreement with your idea. If you allow a date to pay for your meals, drinks, tickets, etc and then somewhere down the road tell him of the virus you're in shithead territory. That's how a guy would look at it.
